A beautiful, peaceful property located on the Western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in St Mary’s County Maryland just 5 miles North of Pt Lookout State Park. From the house, it’s a short 1 minute walk to the beach and Chesapeake Bay shoreline. The property is setup with everything needed for you and your friends and family to enjoy a comfortable stay during each season of the year. Read prior Guest Reviews on VRBO and Google Map to decide if the property will suit your needs while away from home. It has for 150 families over the past 7 years! “Peaceful, cozy, comfortable, everything you need, relaxing, beautiful place to take walks and enjoy a run, we brought our bikes and had so much fun” are all comments we see in Guest Reviews and in the Guestbook. Shopping, tourist and historical sites and full-menu and Bar/Restaurants including Courtney’s which features the freshest seafood meals and Pier 450 and SALT are also nearby and feature Chef created menus and gorgeous water views. Parents are encouraged to shop ahead and bring your groceries with you on the first day because once you arrive, you won’t want to leave to spend any time in a grocery store! (Instacart is available for deliveries) The sand, water, grass, sunrise and sunset views, the birds, deer, fox, turtles, frogs, crabs and fish are all waiting for you. Beautiful home in a stunning location! The house is comfortable and has all the amenities needed for a relaxing retreat. The backyard and beach are really incredible - Hays Beach is my new favorite stretch along the Chesapeake Bay. We plan to return for another family vacation!

the house was perfect! Jocelyn was a terrific host. She provided a welcome basket with cookies, materials for Smores. there are games, activities, beach toys, even bikes! The kitchen and entire house are well-appointed with absolutely everything you mighty need for a nice stay. Adorable interior decorating. Everything from bath towels to cookware are quite nice! The location is peaceful and quiet but you can hear the waves on the water from the open windows. Backyard had everything needed for family entertaining. We will definitely come back! Check in and check out were easy and flexible processes.

We had a fantastic stay at the Hideaway in Hays Beach. We were coming up to see our 93yr old Grandmother who lives about 45 minutes away. Our families rented two homes in the area and were able to enjoy our time with three generations that aren’t able to see each other often. The home was exactly as shown, perfectly decorated and incredibly well stocked! We’d absolutely come back!

Perfect getaway for family time

We had a great stay here for the weekend despite iffy weather. The owners have thought of everything-s’mores station and fire pit, gameroom fun for kids and adults, lovely access to beach and walking. There was really nothing missing- and the beds and furniture were so comfortable! Thanks for the great hospitality!

Fantastic Family Getaway

Family had a great time. Dog friendly private beach with no crowds. Got to try crabbing. Caught dinner for two of the nights. Great property with plenty of amenities inside and out. So much fun.

Wonderful start to the summer!

This was our second stay at the Hideaway. We have come to love Hays Beach like a second home. The backyard is beautiful and feels like stepping into a private park. When the sun got a little hot, we spent time hanging out in the sunroom, which also became our bird-watching spot in the evening. We have already started planning for our next trip to this stunning property.

Heavenly Hideaway

Our family had such a relaxing and fun time! The house had everything you could ever need for a beach vacation. And we practically had the beach to ourselves each day! Our 3 year old loved the games, beach toys, and making s’mores. Definitely never a dull moment.

A most spectacular house!

Wonderful house. Beautifully furnished, a place for everyone (6 of us) to relax alone or be part of the group. Great spaces both indoor and out, steps away from the beach. Great value. There is no need to leave but there is lots to do and see in the surrounding towns. . Already want to go back.

Awesome house, tranquil place

The house is perfect for family or a small group of friends. It’s very loving furnished and decorated. The kitchen has everything and beyond. The backyard is a true jewel. It has enough space to have a small sunset party (the vistas are stunning) or have some activities with kids. The sea shore is just a short walk away. We loved every bit of our stay.

Family Getaway at the Hideaway

My family and I had the most amazing time at the Hideaway at Hayes Beach. This is by far one of the nicest vacation rentals we have ever stayed in. The setting is so picturesque and the private beach community is great. Jocelyn has taken care of every detail inside and outside the home going above and beyond to provide all the amenities to her guests. Jocelyn was so quick to respond to any inquiries we had while there and also made great recommendations prior to our arrival. We can’t wait to come back!

Hidden gem!

Our recent stay at "The Hideaway" was wonderful. The bay-front view was breathtaking and immediately set the tone. The cottage was beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, and had all the amenities we needed. The host, Jocelyn, is incredibly welcoming and gave us great local recommendations. Great spot for a social-distancing family get-away!

We had a very pleasant and relaxing week at the Hideaway. Everyone found places to spread out and do their remote work and virtual schooling during the weekdays, and then we enjoyed late afternoons and evenings at the beach and/or on the kayaks. The bikes were handy for getting in a little lunch-hour exercise. The house was well-equipped and well-stocked, so we had everything we needed in order to relax, enjoy ourselves, and cook some great meals together. The backyard setup with the seating areas and the firepit allowed us to enjoy meals and s'mores out there some evenings, and when rain kept us indoors a couple of days, there were plenty of games on hand to keep us occupied inside. All in all, a great time for the whole family!

Thanksgiving at the Hideaway

We had a relaxing and quiet family holiday at the Hideaway. Lazy mornings relaxing with a cup of coffee on the sun porch. Walks on the beach collected sea glass and shells. A short drive to Point Lookout State Park and we had an interesting afternoon tour of Fort Lincoln. Roasting marshmallows for s’mores in the backyard fire pit and get wood fireplace inside. The property is just as described online with everything one needs for a family vacation. Very clean with lots of space. It has a well equipped kitchen. All kinds of recreation equipment: kayaks for the beach and bikes to ride the rural roads. While we did not meet the owners, they communicated before arrival with all the necessary details and checked in with us several times to ensure we had found everything we needed. All in all, an excellent experience which we highly recommend.

If you need to heal, find water!

This property was absolutely beautiful. It is located in a very remote area down a dirt road. There are just enough neighbors that you don’t feel alone but you basically have the beach to yourself. The landscaping is gorgeous. There’s a feeling of being outdoors while you are indoors. I could wake bathed in the sunlight coming into this home every single day for the rest of my life. You can see the bay from the front of the house and gorgeous marsh area in the rear of the yard. The hosts thought of everything you could possibly need. There’s everything from a toddler potty seat to doggy poo bags! The game shed was so much fun and is air conditioned. There are more games in the house. The beds were very cozy which was nice after a long drive. Jocelyn was very kind and communicative. I traveled alone with my children to celebrate the memory of my late husband. I was nervous and overwhelmed but this property and Jocelyn made it so stress free and helped me create beautiful memories with my children.

This place is magical

Two words to describe the Hideaway at Hays Beach = magical and thoughtful. I love the Chesapeake Bay and have rented many homes on both sides of the Bay over the years. The Hideaway is my favorite. It is cozy and comfortable and very nicely decorated. The seasonal decor was adorable too. The location was incredible. I love a place where I can see the stars in that way that almost makes it seem like you can touch them. The beach was close and amazing and we did hunt some sea glass, which is my absolute favorite thing to do. The backyard is amazing. One of my friends called it an "oasis" and it truly is. But what I loved most about this rental was the thoughtful touches. Anything we could want was there and many things we didn't know we wanted until we saw it. The smore's station, the many throw blankets, the stocked kitchen, the fire pits, the incredibly comfortable beds, the access to Netflix -- just all of it. Simply perfect. And the communication with the owners was also amazing! They gave us great restaurant recommendations and answered any questions we had practically immediately. This was an amazing girls' weekend away to celebrate my birthday and we had the best time. Every single person on the trip wanted to stay longer and we've already decided this will be an annual event. Thank you for putting together such a truly special place.

A relaxing weekend getaway

We arrived Friday evening and unloaded the vehicle. We then walked the property to get a feel for the layout and sat on the benches at the creek and enjoyed the serene view as the sound of the waves of the bay crashed in the distance. We then met some friends at a local Mexican restaurant (Hacienda los Guayabos) and then returned to house where we gathered around a bonfire and with drinks in hand and S'mores from the provided s'mores station on the menu was a perfect relaxing autumn night in a private beautiful hideaway. Saturday was all about the F's Family , Food and Fun. Members of my family joined us for a crab feast and the grill was stocked with cookout staples like burgers, chicken, hotdogs and sausages. We put the cornhole boards to good use as the competitive juices came out while enjoying some relaxing tunes. After the family departed we had a lowkey night with a bonfire and tv before bed. Sunday morning we got up and and had some coffe and returned to the benches by the creek and took in our final morning. We then started the packing and loading up as well as tidying up a bit. After saying our goodbyes to our home for the weekend, we went to a highly recommended local restaurant (Pier 450) for a delicious brunch. It was a great weekend that didn't seem long enough. Thank you to Jocelyn and the Copeland family for providing such a great property to enjoy!

Wonderful and friendly host, beautiful, impeccably-maintained, and well stocked home. Get your fishing license, read up on crabbing laws, and have fun! We found sea glass, decent-sized male crabs, and caught a flounder.

Our Texas family loved our stay at Hays Beach hideaway! The house was perfect and had everything we could possibly need. Just a short walk (60 seconds) to the beach and we were crabbing and enjoying the most beautiful sunrises I’ve ever seen! Owner was very responsive and offered information about the area. Family enjoyed the bicycles, yard games, beach supplies, crab equipment, kayaks, and very comfortable beds. Home was very nicely decorated inside and out and clean and comfortable. A most enjoyable stay we will be back!

We had a great vacation at Hideaway! The house is so cozy and beautifully decorated. It was clean and fully stocked with supplies. There are so many amenities that we didn’t have time to use them all! (Kayaks, paddle board, game shed, crabbing, fire pits, pizza oven…) The owners have thought of everything you’d need or want, plus more! We loved the quiet beach and how close it is to the house. We can’t wait to return again!

The Copeland's are a couple originally from West Virginia and Maryland. As a family of three, we enjoy spending time with our extended family in both St. Mary's county and other areas in Maryland and West Virginia.

Hays Beach had been more than a favorite family vacation location for the two years before we purchased the property. It was a welcomed "retreat" from the stress and daily pace of suburban Maryland life. It felt like a natural "next step" in our journey as a family to purchase The Hideaway in Hays Beach and to create and share the peaceful experience with other families.

Qué distingue a esta propiedad

We are more at peace here than in any other place we have ever visited. The Hays Beach community is calm and neighborly and the expansive views of the Bay water and the forest and creek/lake are captivating. We live in a suburb of Washington DC and like many others, our days and weeks are filled with time spent in "the box" of an office, a house, a school and a car. Being outdoors is one thing. Being outdoors where our 360 degree view to the horizon is filled with the expanse of the Chesapeake Bay, tall forest and marshy creek, opens up your mind and heart out of "the box".

We enjoy the pace of this place, exploring Maryland's history, the natural environment which surrounds the property, the sounds of birds, tall trees, listening to the water, noticing how the beach changes, kayaking, taking photographs, collecting stones and sea glass, chasing crabs, fishing, floating, swimming, taking walks, riding bikes, meeting and talking with neighbors, watching our friends and families’ children explore nature, run and play and learn to crab -- we have never had a "negative" experience here, we always feel better after having visited and we always miss it the minute we leave Holly Drive.

You may find that you miss The Hideaway once your visit ends too.
