About the property

Escape to the Peaceful side of Acadia National Park - A Cottage Great for Family

Lovely oceanfront home for relaxation and rejuvenation in the heart of Prospect Harbor and Acadia National Park Schoodic Region. Located next door to the Schoodic Arts Combs Art Studio, this home is an easy stroll to the Dorcas Library, Peninsula School or the Prospect Harbor Lighthouse.

Nestled in Prospect Harbor, the tidal flow offers the opportunity to swim, kayak, fish, collect sea glass or explore tidal pools. Two bedrooms allow for privacy and a large loft style space has 4 twin beds.

We hope you will make unforgettable memories on your Maine vacation! Our home was designed for families, and we would love to share it with yours. Our shores have been used for magazine wedding pictures and enjoyed by family and guests that want to explore the shoreline. Our beach has sand, rocks, sea glass, shells, and large granite ledges that invite a towel or chair.

The sunrise over the water is able to be viewed from the bedrooms and most other sitting area of the house. On a clear evening, one can watch the moon rise over the water and see the stars twinkle overhead. The Acadia National Park Schoodic Point Entrance is easily accessible at 3.5 miles away. If you desire, explore a wine tasting at the local Bartlett winery or shop the local Winter Harbor Farmer’s Market that offers fresh local produce.

Bar Harbor and Acadia's Main Entrance is available by car (about 50 minutes) or ferry (about 45 minutes). The ferry service runs 4-5x daily from Winter Harbor (5-10 minutes drive from the house) late May through Columbus Day into Downtown Bar Harbor. The free Island Explorer bus system takes visitors from downtown Bar Harbor into the Main Section of the park.

Brochures for events and attractions are available for you to explore. We hope you will enjoy the house amenities and encourage yourself to kick up your feet and relax! Enjoy a fresh cup of coffee, wine or what ever you fancy. Lobsters and fresh seafood are available nearby cooked, or use the lobster pot in the kitchen and have your own lobster bake! Cuisinart coffee and hot water maker, ice cream maker, and waffle iron are all available in the kitchen and pantry for your use if desired. Top quality bed linens and fixtures throughout home.

About Jennifer DeSisto

I am an Occupational Therapist that works primarily with children, teens and young adults and specialize in school based and mental health therapy. My husband Bill is a Chemical Engineering Professor at the University of Maine in Orono. We have four children, ages 23, 22, 19 and 14.

Jennifer DeSisto purchased this house in 2007

Why Jennifer DeSisto chose Gouldsboro

My husband Bill and I fell in love with the Maine coast when I was pregnant with our first born son, in 1994. When we settled in Maine, we knew we wanted to have a home there someday. When we found this piece of property in 2006, we bought it right away and built our home the following year with the guidance and expertise of a local artist and builder. We have enjoyed summers there ever since. Now that our children are older, we are not able to go as often, and we hoped that others may enjoy it and make many happy memories.

What makes this house unique

Our favorite things are exploring the sea shore with the ever changing birds, sea glass, and creatures, jogging the "Schoodic Loop" inside the Park, fish or watch the lobstermen bring in their catch at the Town Pier. Every evening that we are able, we walk to the lighthouse and enjoy the sunset where the hues of pink, violet and yellow reflect off the the lighthouse and sea. Schoodic Arts and Schoodic Educational Research Center have fun and educational programs to enjoy.

The PERFECT Maine getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This home was everything we had hoped for and more! New to the VRBO family, Jennifer was a wonderfully helpful host and communicated with us every step of the way. When we arrived, the home was clean, welcoming and had everything we needed to feel at home for the 4 days we were there.

She had lots of local area books, brochures and was always available to ask where to go and what to do. My kids were outside from morning until night playing in the lush backyard and treasure hunting at low tide for sea glass, snails, crabs and other sea creatures. At high tide, the water is serene but is still low enough to sit on the rocks with your feet splashing around in the sandy/pebble shore.

Sunsets and full moon evenings are life changing here and I have several photos from each night where the sun set and the moon rose within minutes of each other so the pastel light of the sunset was still there as the orange moon came up over the horizon. Just amazing!

The area is very quaint and quiet. There are neighbors but they kept to themselves other than a quick wave through a window while we were outside. There was a wonderful restaurant called Corea for Lunch on the Wharf where the owner let my kids pick their lobsters out of the tank, explained the process of catching them and was very kind to us. Highly recommend eating there for lunch as it is quintessential Maine.

Overall, this was the BEST vacation we've taken as a family and I'd highly recommend Jennifer's home and will certainly return should we take another Maine vacation again. It's the first place that brought tears to my eyes having to leave. Thank you Jennifer for opening your home to our family!

Perks of the house:

- Lovely updated kitchen with everything we needed...including lots of pantry items.

- Fully equipped with outdoor toys to include buckets, beach chairs, kayaks, life jackets and more.

- Large grassy backyard that has a bit of natural separation from the shoreline if you have small children.

- Internet was great...had no issues.

Must See:

- Acadia National Park (1 hour drive to the main visitors center)

- Corea Harbor (for lunch)

- If driving from the south, take the scenic route 1 up for a great little drive through coastal Maine.

Amazing house, hospitality and view

  • 5 of 5

We made this reservation several months ago and received fast and thorough communication from Jennifer. She checked in with us a few days prior to our arrival to see if we needed anything. She then texted and made sure we arrived and asked if we needed anything. The house is stunning. Beautiful wood floors and trim, decorations and artwork. The kitchen has every amenity you would have at home. Very comfortable. The view of the bay is stunning; very pleasant and relaxing. Jennifer checked in with us via text each day to see if we needed anything. We didn't because she had already thought of everything and provided it. She had left us a gift basket of some blueberry jam, locally made soap and some fresh fruit. We highly recommend the house and the location. We hope to come back one day soon.
