This cabin sits on an ideal piece of private property on a small 80 acre lake only 10' from the waters edge. Sitting on the sofa is like being on a house boat. Summer Lane Cottage is perfectly situated for sunrises and sunsets, with an enclosed screen porch off the deck. The deck faces North, great for Northern Lights viewing on a good night.
The cabin does not offer air conditioning, however the lake is a nice way to stay cool on hot summer days.
Two nights can be booked if only two nights are open when you make reservations; otherwise it is a 3 night min.
After owning our home on the lake 20 years we purchased this property 11 years ago and we have done extensive renovation. New carpet, wall coverings all new furniture were added first. Then an enclosed screen room was added to the deck to enjoy bug free evenings and out door dining. There is a canoe, paddle boat as well as a 24' dock to enjoy the water. 2008 updates include a new shower enclosuer and bathroom fixtures. In 2009 we resided the exterior and added gutters. The kitchen was completely renovated with new counters and cabinets and a new stove and fridge. We continue to add to the property each year and invest back based on our rentals.
A DNR stocked trout lake is 1/2 mile away with a walk in access (google Corona Lake); loons and moose are on and around the lake. 10 miles to the Munger Trial for biking or in-line skating and 13 miles to Jay Cooke State Park for remarkable hiking.
The guests who enjoy it here are looking for a quiet site to read, hike, bike and enjoy a quiet lakeshore experience. The home is tastefully done, with ultra-comfortable furnishings and a complete kitchen to allow the chef in you to come out. Our first year in VRBO we were overwhelmed by inquiries and we have enjoyed 100% customer satisfaction.
A massage studio(The Body Connection in Cloquet) and fitness center(Park Ave. Fitness) are just 10 miles away. Books, music, and regional art work fill this home. The first guest who rented it for a weekend stayed 3 weeks. Duluth has the fifth oldest children's museum in the nation and in summer of 2014 it will feature a dinosaur exhibit sure to delight all ages.

My wife and I live 3 driveways down. We purchased our property about 30 years ago as a sesonal home, moved away and came back to make it our permenant residence. We had a chance to purchase this rental property and decided lakeshore was a good investment and it expanded our ability to entertain during the summer months.
I work for a children's museum in Duluth and my wife works at the University. The drive is a good time for us to let go of the day and to reconnect. Often when we enter the drive our saying is 'we live here!' Every season someone asks to buy Summer Lane Cottage, which affirms our decision to invest in the property. We keep thinking we will sell someday, but then we enjoy meeting guests from all over the country and beyond and it gives us space for expanding families of relatives who want to visit in the summer. The work of having a rental is offset by the joy of meeting so many folks who truly enjoy this location. We love the setting and we enjoy sharing it. VRBO has made ownership and rental so easy, after two years of 'going it on our own' we signed on to VRBO and have had very few open nights since.
Michael Garcia--please make inquiry by email if at all possible purchased this cabin in 2002
We had a chance and went for it. The investment made sense, it needed remodeling and we felt up to the challenge and we hoped it would pay off. It is the nicest piece of property on the lakeshore and we are delighted we made the right decision.
A small lake with only 15 cabins, all located on one side provides a very quiet and private setting. It is close to a lot of state parks, Duluth and all the North Shore has to offer. The privacy of the property and the fun of exploring an area delights most.
My family had a wonderful time at this lovely cabin! We recharged ourselves and left feeling great sadness that we only had one week here! I heartily recommend this cabin!
Lovely setting and gracious hosts. Micheael and Lynn are great hosts with lots of info on local highlights. Close enough to Duluth for day trips. Close to great hiking (Jay Cook State Park). The cottage is very nice with a fully equipped kitchen, deck for morning coffee, screened porch for evening meals and entertaining, and woodburning stove/fireplace for cooler evenings. Your own private dock for swmming, fishing, and sun-bathing. Very quiet and peaceful.
This is a perfect setting for a stay just to relax, to enjoy all that Duluth offers, to hike, or to do it all. Lots to enjoy in the area and close access without the higher Duluth and North Shore prices.
The lakeside cottage is exactly as described and better-looking in person. ; ) This was probably the loveliest, most picturesque setting for a rental that we've ever experienced! We enjoyed our stay immensely. Thank you, Michael.
My husband and I came to get away for a few days from the Twin Cities to celebrate our first anniversary. Husband said it was the best vacation he's ever had. The property is lovely, very quaint and well kept with a lovely deck and grassy area with shade, a little dock and very pleasant swimming area with a sandy lake bottom. the screened in patio was great for meals and the deck chairs for star gazing. Used the charcoal grill every night for dinner. Lots of quiet beauty on this small lake. Even had some visits from a curious fox. If you want a quiet comfortable getaway, this is it. Can't wait to come back.
We stayed at Summer Lane Cottage for 3 days and 3 nights immediately following our wedding weekend. We called it our "mini-moon", which is exactly what it was.
The small cabin (there were only 2 of us, however there was room for 2 more if needed) was remote, cute, and well-kept.
We were greeted by champagne and a nice note congratulating us on our recent marriage from Michael, the owner. What a great way to start the get-away.
We spent most of our time relaxing, playing board games and watching movies. We jumped in the lake one afternoon and went canoeing as well. We tried to have a fire one night but the wood was difficult so that didn't last long. No matter, we were happy just cuddling on the couch instead :)
We ran to the Sawyer store and got supplies (food, toiletries, etc.). For the most part we cooked our meals at the cabin (there is a full kitchen) but we did have a burger and malt at Gordy's one afternoon (which was great) and did a little antiquing in Cloquet while we were there as well.
We stayed at Summer Lane during the week so even our "neighbors" weren't around. Pets were welcome for a fee so we brought our dogs and they were able to roam free on the cabin's property without bothering anyone.
Overall we loved our little stay at Summer Lane. We'd recommend it to anyone who is looking to get away from the city, disconnect, and decompress.
Only bummer was that the flies, mosquitos, and spiders were plentiful. But that's just Minnesota in the summer :)
My husband and I rented this home for our 32nd Wedding anniversary. It was perfect! Michael and Lynn kindly left us a note and a wonderful bottle of wine to acknowledge our special event. They also recommended a near by butcher shop which we took advantage of. We had some fresh brats and a yummy grilled steak!
The cabin is just as described, cozy, comfortable, nicely appointed, and a great place to relax, enjoy nature and renew a relationship.
Our trip was in the fall so we enjoyed seeing the beautiful color in the trees from the paddleboat and our hike to Corona Lake. We also took advantage of biking on the Willard Munger trail which is close by and easy to access from Carlton, MN.
We would recommend this cabin to our friends and family and would definitely stay here again! Bravo Michael and Lynn for providing a little piece of heaven on earth.
Children's Museum; Lakewalk in Duluth 30 mi. away, much to see and do within 100 miles up the north shore of Lake Superior. Many state parks are located within 50 miles of this location, in every direction. Jay Cooke is closest and has a bike/rollerblade trail that connects to Duluth and is located on the Munger Trail which goes all the way to St. Paul. Duluth is the regional port for Lake Superior and it has its own summer air conditioning, lots of hiking, shopping and places to enjoy there. If you prefer, look up the MN DNR website for state parks, there are at least 4 within 30 miles and another 5 within 50 miles, great day trips, especially along the lake. Jay Cooke State Park is a place that you can spend 2-3 days hiking and enjoying and it is only 13 miles away.
