About Helen Blyth
Helen grew up in South Africa – on the beach in Durban. Harry, born in England and whose family later moved to Ireland, just wished he was on the beach! So he took off in his younger days to a sleepy little place called Anguilla in the Caribbean and ran a bar there for some time. We were lucky enough to meet each other here in the US and live and work in Washington DC and Pennsylvania. We love to travel the world and between us have been fortunate enough to visit 71 countries. The Rondavel houses some of our collections from our travels. We do hope that you enjoy your stay in our unique home as much as we do! Helen Blyth and Harry Bourke
Helen Blyth purchased this House in 2018
Why Helen Blyth chose Placida
We built it. From scratch. We cleared the land, designed the house, and over 3 years managed to get every single piece of construction material and furnishing across the water to the island - a gigantic feat. The beautiful clear waters of the Gulf, fishing in the bay, the quiet oasis of the island, friendly people, lack of traffic with only golf carts around, the birds - are just a few reasons we call LGI paradise!
What makes this House unique
We love that this is a round house, has tons of hurricane-resistant windows, and lends itself to outdoor dining (two of the decks are screened). Having a cocktail at the end of the day on the top deck watching the sunset and the sea view - cannot be beat. We've taken hundreds of sunset pictures, each one seemingly more beautiful than the last! Eating good food and drinking good wine - after the beach - is our #1 thing! Hence the kitchen that has all the goodies, from the Vitamix, to ice cream machine, bread maker etc - we are always trying new dishes. With Helen being a South African, braais (or barbecue's as they are known here in the USA) are a part of us! The outdoor grill leading from the kitchen sees its fair share of sizzling steaks, lamb chops, peri-peri chicken and garlic roasted shrimp. Our families are extremely competitive, so we have games of every kind - from board games, to puzzle/poker table, table tennis, foosball, pool, darts - even going so far as to build the only bocce court on the island! As Harry says, a house has got to be lived in and used. We've put so much of ourselves into our home and hope that our guests who have the opportunity of staying in our home, make special memories for themselves here too.
