Pet friendly, 3-bedroom luxury log cabin w/ hot tub, pool table, 2 fireplaces...
We are a family of four (plus our girl 'Callie' in the pic above). We are originally from Texas but now the Smoky Mountains are our playground! We also love entertaining friends and family and wanted a cabin to share that is cozy, comfortable and clean (and has great mountain views!). We also wanted it to be well stocked, well appointed and well... everything you would want in a mountain cabin. Our greatest hope is that you will want to share this 'perfect cabin in the mountains' with your friends and family as well.
Why Robert chose Almond
Before we bought this cabin we spent a few years renting cabins all over western North Carolina (from Boone/Banner Elk/Blowing Rock to Highlands & Cashiers) and while we liked aspects of all those places what it came down to for us was being near outdoor activities like whitewater rafting, hiking, mountain biking, zip-lining, boating and water skiing and the area around Bryson City and Lake Fontana is perfect for that. We also love the cool mountain air in the summer, the lack of crowds and traffic and just relaxing in a beautiful and peaceful setting with great views! The other big appeal is that while the cabin feels remote (in the sense of being "away from it all") it is easily accessed and the roads in this community are very accessible. This cabin IS on the side of a mountain but the roads are paved and the grades are never so steep that you wonder if you'll make it up (much less come down) - no white-knuckle driving here. One last thing - Bryson City... its one of those friendly, comfortable Mayberry-like towns that has it all but doesn't seem to know it. There are cute shops and some really good restaurants but its concentrated in a fairly small and picturesque downtown. No huge crowds and, being surrounded by GSM National Park, TSali Recreation Area, Nantahala National Park, Lake Fontana and the Eastern Cherokee Indian reservation it may just stay that way. Let's hope so!
What makes this Cabin unique
Location, location, location... Tsali Recreation Area, rafting on the Nantahala, fishing and boating on Lake Fontana , hiking, zip lining, restaurants and shopping (and The Polar Express) in Bryson City - ALL are only 10 to 15 minutes away. This cabin is perfectly situated - whenever people ask "how far is it to _________?" the answer is almost always "about 10 to 15 minutes that way." However, if you don't mind driving a little further (and any drive in this area is usually a very pretty drive) this cabin is perfectly situated to reach several day-trip destinations like Asheville, NC & The Biltmore Estate (80 minutes), Highlands & Cashiers, NC (80 to 90 minutes), Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge, TN (90 minutes), The Tail Of The Dragon (45 minutes), the start of the Blue Ridge Parkway (about 35 minutes), etc., etc. Finally, this cabin is quiet and the views from the front porch or living room are just amazing, you can see about 7 ranges of mountains. Also, local wild life is abundant... white tail deer, rabbits , turkeys, maybe a bear, as well as the birds you will see early in the mornings when you take a morning hike.

The pictures do not do the views, or the cabin justice! We could not have been happier, in fact, we spent our entire stay right at the property.
We love to cook and after a quick stop in town where Robert told us there was an Ingles, we made our way up to the cabin. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook with.
Dining inside, or sitting out on the deck, we were treated to a view of the Smokies that are hard to beat from any hike! We took full advantage of taking pictures of the sun setting, and rising, right from the deck!
The house was impeccably clean, tastefully decorated, warm and cozy! There were plenty of options to entertain..the Nintendo was a great blast from the past, the pool table and multiple games. Dish TV worked great too.
Highly recommend this cabin and if the chance arises, we would definitely go back!
Beautiful views and home!
Thank you to the owners for opening their home to VRBO renters. Robert was wonderful to work with. He sends very detailed instructions and makes the entire process a breeze. The home has beautiful views. Wish we had rented longer for "down days" to just sit on the porch and gaze at the ever changing mountains. For a treat, get up early to see sun rise!
Our family enjoyed renting a pontoon for a day on Fontana Lake(such a quiet lake!). We also would recommend driving to Cherokee and hiking to Mingo Falls ,stunning! Don't miss the NOC for white water rafting/kayaking fun.
The kitchen was well stocked for those who wish to cook meals. The beds were comfortable. This is truly a home with attention to detail.
We had fun evenings of roasting marshmallows around the firepit and then going into the house to play some pool. We made some great family memories at this home! We hope to visit again. Sincerely, Lesley & Steve
Can't be beat!!!
The cabin, besides offering spectacular, ever changing views of the Smokey Mountains, provides guests a very comfortable and stylish home away from home with all the amenities one needs. The decor accurately depicts the mountains of North Carolina. But was is most impressive about this cabin is Robert himself. He is the epitome of a good host providing detailed instructions about the cabin along with explicit directions and hospitality towards his guests. He also provides extensive information about local recreational activities, entertainment and restaurants you may want to experience. We would recommend future guests bring a pair of binoculars to take full advantage of the majestic views!!!
The cabin was perfect for three couples. Everything was exceptionally clean. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment and utensils. When we arrived lamps were on and the AC was cold, making us feel welcome. There was also a nice gift basket. Robert could not have been more accommodating with the reservation, directions, and description of the cabin and area. We had a great time at Fontana Village, hiking the Appalachian Trail, riding the train at Bryson City, and visiting Cherokee. But we started each day on the deck drinking in the view. Wow!
Beautiful place to stay! You WILL want to come back!
This was our second year staying at the Smokey Mountain Skyline and we LOVED it as much this time as we did the first time. The owner is amazing, he was a pleasure to work with, he truly puts his guests first and foremost! He made sure everything was taken care of and checked with us to make sure we made our trip there safe and sound. He was always available at any time if we had any issues (which we did not have any either year).
We highly recommend the Smokey Mountain Skyline, it is very clean, comfortable and cozy and is truly a Home Away from Home. You will not get board during your stay because there is so much to do around the area. Thank you for another wonderful experience, we LOVED it!
The Wilson Family
Our host, Robert, was informative, responsive, and very nice! He obviously takes pride in his cabin. The property and cabin are incredibly beautiful....the views...WOW! My family of six were so impressed! There was plenty of space for all of us. He had all the amenities and more!
The location was within 20 minutes of everything we wanted to do. Nothing was lacking and we had an amazing vacation! Our best VRBO to date! 😊
