Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Full Bath, Sleeps Six

Nestled in a private community, hidden in the forest with views of

the Mountains and the Lake, Pocomoonshine, once discovered

becomes a cherished sanctuary, many times for many generations.

Hark back to a former time, a simpler time, far away yet close to everything.

Our year round camp entices everyone with it’s rustic charm, multilingual library, large country kitchen, screened porch and great outdoors with Adirondack chairs. Carefully restored and refurbished, keeping the antiquarian charm yet offering modern comforts. There is a wood stove to take the chill out of the cool nights and a Hot Tub to warm up your spirit. Boulders, woods and nature surround the house. You can gaze at the lake from the kitchen, living room and the porch. The bedrooms are located in the back of the house with views of trees. There is definitely something very special about Pocomoonshine Camp, wherein you feel in concert with and cradled by Mother Nature. I always feel like I'm entering another dimension when I'm there, as if I'm going back in time. It is very remote and quiet, yet quite close to many attractions including the Ausable Chasm and Lake Champlain. There is plenty of space for pets to be free and roam in the wild.

We are in a micro-neighborhood of several camps, on a dead-end dirt road. Our camp is located about 80' from the shore.

To access our private dock you have to cross the dirt road and follow the foot path along the side of the fence on the left. There you will find our rowboat, canoe and the bench, (4 kayaks are in the garage).

You can swim right of the dock, we must tell you, though, that our favorite spot for swimming is off the small island, which is just a paddle away. You might also enjoy the sandy, guarded community beach in Port Douglas, on Lake Champlain.

The few neighbors that you might encounter are very friendly and respectful of privacy, if you choose to remain remote. However, in the past, some of our guests have become very close friends with neighbors, enjoying entertaining each other.

Auger Lake is a private-access Lake only and excellent for fishing or exploring in the kayak or canoe. In the west it connects to Mud Pond, an incredibly secluded place where you can spy on birds, turtles and beavers. Bald eagles and loons were spotted here last Summer.

Yes, our Hot Tub is usable year round. It is nestled in the woods at the back of the property, so you can fully immerse yourself in the magic of the environment.

You never want to leave and always await your return.

Great Room - Library: The Queen Size Futon is located in the Living Room / Library. Here one (or two or three) sleep in this great, open room with high ceilings, twin paddle fans overhead, wood stove with a blazing fire, and a dream catcher to protect your sleep. The atmosphere is of so many adventures in hundreds of books waiting on the shelves, antique lamps providing the light, animal masks adorning the wall. Share scary stories or listen to gentle lullabies of Chopin played on the LP record player. Where will you choose to go in your dreams tonight?

Kitchen: The heart of the house is the good ole’ country kitchen. It is warm and inviting for gathering together or sitting in solitude on the window seat and taking in the beauty of nature.

The butcher block with pots hanging above calls to the chef to create that memorable meal. He(She) will find no tools lacking for that task. The antique cherry dinner table is a perfect place for the romantic dinner for two or for a whole family to have an evening of talks and games.

Porch: Fresh breezes blow in from the adjacent enclosed, screened porch - A perfect place to greet the morning, or soak in the rays of the setting sun. The colorful radiance of the room hugs you with joy and happiness. The Mexican tile table, wrought iron cushioned couch and chairs, and swinging chair create the atmosphere to inspire the artist within you.

Songs about children have been written on this porch.

Both Bedrooms feature Queen Size Beds fitted with brand new orthopedic mattresses.

The Master Bedroom whispers of an enchanted nest. A synergy of Nature, Native American art, bamboo shades, red velvet curtains draping the closet, plenty of pillows and dimmed light create an alluring atmosphere.

The cheerful resplendence of the Second Bedroom heralds the child within each of us. The log bed covered with a patchwork quilt and cacophony of pillows. One can't wait to hug the Rag Doll or play with the wood carved horse. The hand woven carpet placed on the rustic hardwood floor offers a perfect spot for such play.

***A note to very tall people; Please be aware that, as the camp is an original, the roof in the back of the house is sloping creating sloping ceilings in both bedrooms. For some that is cozy and charming for some it can be challenging.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Renata,

Our third time at Pocomoonshine, what a special place. Our hectic ‘life’ goes away as we are secluded and cozy here. We spent most of Sunday on snowshoes enjoying the winter wonderland. We found Cub Mnt. Trail on the other wise of the lake. The views are spectacular in this area.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful camp.

Better than we hoped for

  • 5 of 5

Pocomoonshine was inviting from the moment we entered...clean, charming and organized. Friendly little touches were everywhere and made us feel both at home and also far, far away. We'll be back! Kathy

Perfect place to disconnect!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin really is a cozy little slice of heaven, perfect for disconnecting from the world for a bit and enjoying the beauty of the area. Not only was the cabin spotless, charming, and well stocked, it was only about a 10-15 minute ride to a fantastic brewery (Ausable), a local butchery, and a dairy. We ate like kings! On the ride home to CT, my boyfriend and I were already planning a return trip. This isn't the Ritz Carlton, and it isn't meant to be. It's a family style cabin on a lake, with all the comforts (and then some) of home. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Sweet comfy cottage

  • 4 of 5

Comfortable cozy place.

I only downgraded one star because the listing is slightly misleading in that it is not directly on its own waterfront. Their dock is across the driveway and close between two other camps. Luckily I noticed someone's review that noted this just before coming and brought folding chairs to make it easier to have enough seating by the water.

Otherwise: Quiet, lots of books, cards, games, hiking, well outfitted kitchen for making nice meals, cozy woodstove fire, outdoor fire pit and lots of Adirondack chairs, foliage and lake...what could be better.

Owner's Response: Dear Chris, Thank you for taking your time to write a review for our camp, we really appreciate it! I am so very sorry that our description wasn't clear enough for you. We do say "Our camp is located about 80' from the shore, accessible by foot path, leading to our private dock." We certainly don't want our guests to be disappointed. I will review our description once more to make sure that it is clear and not misleading. Just on the side note, we do have a bench by the shore and folding chairs in the garage for our guests to use. Thank you again for choosing to stay with us! Wishing you the best! Renata

Just as the pictures described. Reminded us of our family camp only with running water.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Pocomoonshine Camp in Keeseville. The camp had everything we needed. It was clean and Renata answered any questions we had promptly. The hot tub was great especially after hiking up Pocomoonshine Mountain to the Fire Tower. The view is breathtaking, and the walk tired the puppies out for sure! The boys enjoyed the kayaks and the fishing was great. They caught fish and hubby even broke is fishing pole, hooked a "big one", lol not sure about that! The kids and I walked the trails at Ausable Chasm. The falls and ravines there are beautiful, wished we would have gone there on one of the hot 90 degree days and did the raft ride. Monday thru Wednesday were particularly warm, upper 80's to 90 and we could not find a beach to take the puppies swimming and for us to just hang out. The dock at the camp is metal and was too hot to sit on. There was no place to sit at the water and the shore area was too weedy to swim. We took the Essex Ferry to Burlington, to go to "Queen City Brewery", the puppies even got biscuits from the ticket booth! My husband's sister and husband are co-owners and it was so nice to see all of them and enjoy some awesome beers. We enjoyed campfires at night and sitting out in the enclosed front porch during the morning to drink our coffee. Very relaxing stay and we think the camp should be renamed " Chipmunk Haven" as there were too numerous to count and they "entertained", taunted our puppies, who could only watch them from the porch. We would definitely recommend "Pocomoonshine" for anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing place in the woods.

Nice small house

  • 3 of 5

The house is smaller than we expected. Need to upgrade the internet services if possible.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry Michael that your expectations were not met! We work hard at doing our best to have the camp be comfortable, well furnished and stacked, clean and aesthetically pleasing. Our goal is to have our guests experience more than they expected. I'm not sure if you took the time to read the full description of the house, which specifies it's size? Considering the size of your party you might've been more comfortable at our larger house, but that is more expensive as well... Regarding the Internet, we are located in a very remote area with one choice of the provider. We are very happy to have the service and use it ourselves while there with no problems. It might not be the fastest, especially for people coming from high tech world, but it is reliable and keeps you connected to World if need be. After all our camp is described as "Rustic Jewel on the Lake"and it is one of those special places where you can get away from it all, while re-connecting with Mother Nature, which is really great! Wishing you the Best! Renata

Augur Lake is sequestered betwixt two miracles of nature,

Poke-O-Moonshine Mountain, with 1100 Million year-old walls, resembling a Gothic Cathedral and Ausable Chasm, with its intense energy from the whitewater coursing rapidly through the deep gorge.

We are in the heart of the Bread Basket of the Adirondacks, where valley farms offer organic eggs, dairy and produce biodynamically grown. There are apple orchards too!

High Peaks form the backdrop for these vistas, inviting hikes and explorations of Swimming Holes, Many Falls, High Falls Gorge, Natural Springs, Caves, Lakes and Rivers.

On Lake Champlain, only a few miles away, there is a private beach and boat launch for our community, as well as a ferry to Burlington, Vermont.

Thirty minutes to Whiteface Mountain.

Forty minutes to the Olympic Village of Lake Placid.

Ninety Minutes to Montreal, the second largest French City (after Paris) in the World-with all its sophistication, arts and culinary delights.
