Want up North, but not the drive? This is the perfect couples retreat for you. The beautifully decorated Lake Cabin is Perfect for a Romantic Couples getaway!! Big Island is located on Lake Minnetonka, only minutes from Minneapolis. The cabin is located on 1 acre of wooded land with a fabulous view of the lake. It is a wonderful get-away from all the pressures of life. Sit on one of the two decks and relax as you enjoy the views of boats sailing by and the glow of the amber setting sun!

Big Island is located between Excelsior and Wayzata, both of which are filled with restaurants and shops. You can drive your boat to the free public docking at either town. Excelsior is 2 miles away from cabin and Wayzata 4 miles away. A quick minutes boat ride to a fun fabulous dinner out on the lake! And if you want solitude, you can spend time hiking around the island and see where the original amusement park used to be.

This is a beautiful cabin where you can enjoy nature, yet still be close to urban delights.

*Please note: This property is accessible only by boat.

Mainland parking, dockage, or boat rental is not provided by owner. Foster Bros. Marine rents boats in Delano.

Remember....e-check will be the suggested payment option so you can avoid the 3% credit card charge.

The cabin is very upscale and comfortable with two decks.

Upper deck: overlooking the gorgeous view of the lake with two very comfortable chairs with ottomans to relax, read, or have your morning breakfast and coffee.

Lower deck (which sits off the water): has a high top table, swivel bar stools, red umbrella and potted flowers at your feet. There you can enjoy the setting sun with cocktails. There is a sandy beach with extra chairs to sit down and put your feet in the warm sand or build a sand castle!

Inside cabin features include:

-Beautiful woodwork

-Newly tiled floors

-New kitchen appliances and cabinets

-New bathroom with jetted tub

-Beautiful romantic open loft bedroom (which overlooks the living room)

Everything is beautifully decorated with an eye for details and enjoyment!

Tie up to the 80 foot dock. It's great for fishing and the sunnies are always biting!

*Fishers- This bay is one of Lake Minnetonka's prized bass fishings spots (walleyes, northerns, bass, and muskies).

A large fire pit, which overlooks the bay, is complete with large boulders to sit on to roast marsh mellows for s'mores. 4 new kayaks are available to rent, $50 for 3 days or $75 for the week, per kayak.

Remember, this property is accessible only by boat!

There are several full service marinas that are close to the island. For overnight vehicle and boat trailer parking there is one close at Grays Bay Landing, 17232 Grays Bay Blvd. Minnetonka, MN and in Orono - 3366 North Shore Drive, Orono, MN

We cannot do parties or more than 4 guests due to our septic and well systems. We also do not want the wear and tear of our property and furnishings. This is an upscale, exceptionally clean and well decorated cabin. It is perfect for a Romantic Couple Getaway!! We are excited to share our cabin with mature, responsible, and respectful renters so that the cabin will stay in great shape for years to come.

About Jody Laughlin

I have always lived near or on Lake Minnetonka all my life. My father has owned lake cabins on Big Island as a vacation spot to enjoy. I grew up sailing across to Big Island to hang out with friends at one of the cabins. We were big sailors in regattas around the country. We have always loved the Lake and Big Island.

Both my husband and I have grown up here and graduated from Minnetonka High School. We have lived at same property since we married 27 years ago, and tore down the orginal house and built new home, with 6 wonderful children. Ages...26, 23, 21, 19,17 & 15, Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl. Everyone is super close and our top priority is family and extended family time together, with lots of love, laughter and good food! I absolutely love renting out and sharing our property, because I know how much I love and enjoy it when I am able to get away and relax out there. Renters have been so great and have been so responsible and respectful of our furnishings and property. We have a lot of repeat customers because they know how beautiful and clean our lake cabin is. We are very protective of our property, so that we and they, can always count on our place being stellar.

Jody Laughlin purchased this cabin in 1977

Why Jody Laughlin chose Orono

My father has two Big Island lake properties next to each other, his being down the shore line. He wanted to sell the Upper cabin because the lake taxes were so high. I couldn't see that happening, I wanted to keep it in the family for future generations to enjoy as we have. So we rent it out to cover the expensive lake taxes, insurance, and maintenance. We still get to enjoy it in the spring and fall and hopefully have Christmas out there if the lake ice is better this year for crossing! There are no bridges to this Island.

What makes this cabin unique

We are on an Island, with 20 other seasonal lake home cabins. Our property and dock are located last on the Island , that butts up next to the 'Three Rivers District Park System'. So our location is private. We sit up high with a commanding view of Lake Minnetonka and all the boats and activity. We are surrounded by lush greenery and mature trees that are a relaxation feast for the eyes. The whole front of the cabin and the A frame sides are all glass. So you feel like you are one with the outside and nature! In the fall there are all the maples on the Island that make the Island on fire with color. Looking out the windows at glowing yellow, orange and red. Taking a cool hike around the lake on a rugged foot path to the Old amusement park. Come back for a Bon Fire to warm up to with S'mores and hot cider. There is a red wood burning stove in living room that heats the place up wonderfully cozy in the fall and winter. Very romantic cozy getaway for a couple all year round!!!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thank you for the perfect weekend! Your cabin is beautiful and so clean and well maintained! Your lot is very private with such wonderful views- you definitely get the "up north" feeling but are only minutes from the cities. Every aspect of our stay was great and we plan on returning next year.

Thanks again!

Hidden gem in the city!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed every minute at the cabin, there were so many things to do - whether playing games, watching a movie at night, paddleboarding or adventuring around the island by foot - there's a lot of land to explore! The views are absolutely breathtaking; morning coffee on the deck with the sunset is a highlight. Jody was great to work with, very responsive if needed. The cabin is exactly as shown and well-stocked with everything you need! We will definitely be back!

Beautiful view and great for boat time on the lake

  • 5 of 5

Two adults and two kids ages 12 and 14 really enjoyed being able to stay at this fully stocked cabin to utilize our boat for skiing, tubing and eating out at restaurants on the lake. I sat outside and worked on my computer in the mornings while enjoying the incredible views. When we wanted to cook, we had everything we needed. The fire pit is gorgeous, and we had a short fire one evening but it was pretty hot the week we were there. Wood was provided and easy to access. The air conditioning made it very comfortable inside. The dock is easy to tie up your boat and it is deep enough so you don't need to worry about your prop. The inside of the cabin looks almost exactly like the pictures on-line. It is beautiful and comfortable. The only negatives would be the notes everywhere directing you as to what you can use and what you can't. There is also a long document that we read like a Bible to understand the rules. We followed the guidelines put forth, but for non-conformists, that might be a challenge. I guess the point is to keep the cabin looking nice, and I guess it is working because it looks great. We would definitely book another trip to this cabin.

A perfect romantic getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely wonderful romantic vacation at this beautiful cabin right on the lake! The cabin was so clean and wonderfully designed. I used to design for a Home and Living magazine and I commented to my husband that this cabin could have been featured in our magazine! There were amazing windows that when you were inside the cabin you still felt like you were in nature with the view of the lake and woods surrounding you. I spent the afternoons reading on the deck with a picturesque view of the lake in front of me. My husband loves to fish, he was able to take the boat around the bay and caught a ton of fish, biting one right after the other. At dusk we enjoyed fishing right off the dock. The evenings were spent around the bonfire and playing board games on the deck. We will definitely be going back next year! This is THE place to go the get away but not have the long drive all the way up to northern Minnesota. Jody was very accommodating and lovely to work with.

Magical location on private historical island with abundant nature and space for relaxing &adventure

  • 5 of 5

Quaint cabin with breathtaking views of Lake Minnetonka! Days filled with boating, hiking, fishing, kayaking, swimming and yard games! Wayzata and Excelsior provides very simple public docking access to town for shopping, brewery and ice cream! This meticulous cabin contained everything we needed! The outdoor shower was fantastic! If you are looking for relaxation and adventure, this is perfect for you!

Helpful hints: you need a considerable sized boat to comfortably maneuver on windy days on Lake Minnetonka. Minnetonka Bay is a laid back area to park your boat and swim...very calm! The sandbar on the other side of the island is for younger “more energetic” crowds. Kayak in the morning when there are no boats in the bay...so peaceful! Jodi is an outstanding hostess with a true love for this island and your stay!

Perfect!

It was an amazing weekend to escape from the world and enjoy big island. Great view of the south side of the lake from the bonefire pit, and a nice trail that led you to the east side of the island. Would definitely stay here again!
