a few cautions
Beautiful location, I wish we could have made the most of it. The cabin was adorable & clean with nice furnishings. There is no oven...
Unfortunately the weather was rainy & cold--the cabin is heated w space heaters & we had technical difficulties. Be warned to take this into account when planning trips.
Our host was very responsive to our calls & refunded a night of our stay when we had to leave early. I'm sure he will be working on this problem but thought other potential renters would want to know that cold weather could be an issue.
Nice little getaway but really close to everything!
The lake was great and it was secluded but close to shopping and dining.
Great get away
We had a great time enjoying the quiet little lake cottage and still were very close to all the Portland and Lake Sebago attractions. Great Value!
A perfect getaway!
We stayed here for five days on a last minute getaway from central Missouri. We absolutely loved it. Although close to town, it felt amazingly remote. It is bright and cheery and the view of the lake was delightful. We grilled every evening and enjoyed morning coffee on the deck. We were able to experience temps in the 80’s, woke up one morning to rain on the roof, and had a couple crisp fall evenings down into the 50’s. We even had a glimpse of some color in the leaves starting to change. The gift certificate to a local ice cream shop was an added bonus. We were able to get pumpkin ice cream...just in time for the season! A few things to note...we couldn’t get the can opener to work. A place to hang towels in the bedroom would be helpful. The hot plate has two burners, but only one small saucepan was available to use. We were only cooking for two, so it worked. There are some basic cooking items available, likely left behind from other visitors. There is a pedestal fan, a ceiling fan, a portable AC and a space heater available to stay comfortable. My partner recently had shoulder surgery and suggests in you are a side sleeper, bring your own pillows. The shower handle is a bit hard to rotate. We left feeling totally relaxed and definitely plan to be back for another stay in the future!
Great clean, cute cottage. Highland lake is great for kayaking. No public boat access so it''s quiet
Great spot for a get-a-way! Cleaning fees should be included in the advertised price. 100 dollars a night is a steal, but with 100 automatic cleaning fee and other fees 350+ for two nights.
Thanks for the review. The cleaning fee is on the booking as a mandatory fee. The other fees include using VRBO (they got to make their money, I get charged as well on my end) and taxes (can't avoid those). You can see your total charge before you book it.
Glad you enjoyed your stay, we look forward to having you back again.
Very rustic, nice distance from Portland
We had a nice stay.
-The cottage was clean and bright
-Cottage has an open floor plan, felt spacious (there was just the two of us...with more people may have felt crowded)
-Lots of windows, great view of the lake
-Ceiling fan kept us cool, mood lighting was nice
-Complimentary local beer and ice cream shop gift card
-Lots of other "nice to have" items we appreciated as well - bug spray, first aid kit, creamer, utensils, paper products, plenty of outside furniture/chairs
-Paddle boat, life jackets, water toys
-Fire pit and grill worked great!
-Not too far from Portland (25-30 min drive)
-Little to no privacy :( We expected a secluded, romantic spot on the lake on an acre+ lot. Unfortunately there are neighbors very close on either side. Lots of noise, woke up to kids playing each morning. They were also out on the lake during the evenings of our stay enjoying the boating and fishing....their space is directly in line with the cottage...felt pretty crowded so we didn't venture to the water too much.
-"sketchy" neighborhood, back roads, you pass lots of homes in disrepair as you near the cottage from Portland...dirt roads very rocky leading to cottage
-be prepared, its definitely on the rustic side. Floors uneven, exposed wiring, very tiny bathroom and shower stall, no stove or oven
We enjoyed all of the sights and eats in Portland, cottage was an ok place to land in the evenings.
