About the property

Vacation home, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps up to 6)

Welcome to Whispering Pines Cabin! Estes Valley Operating Permit #3175- a licensed vacation rental property.

Come relax and enjoy our historic 1928 vintage Estes Park home, a charming rental retreat only 3 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park (and right across the road from the Big Thompson river), which was built with integrity and beautiful craftsmanship that has been maintained throughout the years.

Here you will find Old Estes charm, updated with comfortable mattresses and today's amenities in the quaint mountain town of Estes Park. While the cabin offers all the amenities of a modern comfortable home, there has been a concerted effort in its restoration to retain the look and feel of this wonderful property.

Nestled among aspen and ponderosa pine trees, some of which are hundreds of years old, you will be on 1 1/2 acres with mountain views and rock outcroppings contributing to the sense of solitude. This home is filled with tasteful and comfortable furnishings, original Douglas Fir flooring and the town of Estes Park is only a 1/2 mile walk away. ( There are no sidewalks but we walk along the grassy shoulder; it's a 30 mph road.)

Here is the perfect place to come and escape the summer heat (daytime temperatures are generally in the 70's to mid 80's and evenings get into the 40's and 50's) as well as enjoy the serenity of the mountains year round, and a wonderful place for people who appreciate the grace of years past.

Enjoy the all-season sunroom-- the perfect place to play cards, read, sip a cup of your favorite beverage, visit with friends or family, or just relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Big Thompson River. There are plenty of windows to take in the beauty and tranquility of the mountains, including the deer and elk that often wander through (and even the occasional bear).

The entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is just 5 minutes away, with many, many trails to hike, snowshoe or even for backcountry skiing and sledding. The Eldora downhill ski area is an hour drive away.

We provide a collection of DVD's, games, and books, including mountain interest and local information. We also have extras to make your vacation comfortable and safe-- first aid kit, flash light, fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide detector, cooler, snowshoes upon request, etc.

Much effort has been taken to care for and furnish our mountain cabin and we want our guests to feel welcome and comfortable, and to enjoy it as much as we do. We are proud to provide a clean and smoke-free environment (smoking is allowed outside). This had been a family home for 80 years and has only been made available for rentals in the past 10 years.

This Estes Park home has it all--lots of character, a large wooded lot providing privacy without isolation, across the road from the river with no buildings in-between to spoil the view or muffle the sound, walking distance to downtown, a huge stone wood-burning fireplace, mountain views, high-speed wireless internet and room inside and out to spread out and relax.

Experience the true feeling of Colorado in your home away from home.

Note- two bedrooms are connected, meaning you walk though one to get to the other.

Why The Owner chose Estes Park

We love Estes Park and have been coming here for decades to relax, hike, snowshoe, shop and take in the mountain air. This cabin fit our ideal perfectly, and we feel so fortunate to have found it. It's great not only for a quiet, peaceful retreat and family gatherings. We have kept the character and charm of the home, while updating to make for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This trip was exactly what we hoped for and more. Everything between this cabin, the views and all the adventures was truly phenomenal. Thank you for making this cabin a home away from home and even more than that. Such a beautiful place with lots of history and breath taking views. This trip will be a memory to last a lifetime, and thank you for being part of that. We hope to/plan to come back here with others to share this memory and make others with even more people that we love.

We can't thank you enough for sharing your home with us and making this trip more amazing than we could have ever hoped for.

Beautiful Wildlife in Your Own Front Yard

VRBO Bear stayed here

Sep 25, 2009

The “Whispering Pines Cabin in the Woods” was truly a perfect retreat for a family reunion. Sue, the owner, was a delight to work with- from the first time we spoke to her to after we returned home. The location offers the best of both worlds. It offers solitude, but is close to Estes Park’s wonderful shops, restaurants and “Fun City." During our stay we visited the art fair and walked through the town, taking in all the little shops to get souvenirs. The moment we arrived, we realized the cabin was bigger than it looked in the photos. After walking in the front door, there’s a large combination dining area/living room, with a huge stone fireplace and hearth. The living room features a flat screen television VHS/DVD player with an assortment of videos and DVDs. Readers enjoyed browsing a nice collection of books. The Wi-Fi connection was great and we used it to research local activities and restaurants. The dining room had a large table that comfortably sat everyone in our group (ten people) for meals and board game evenings. There was a gas fireplace that keeps the place warm and toasty. The cabin’s craftsman style décor and lodge furnishings made the interior feel very cozy and quaint. The kitchen included all the dishes and utensils one needed for cooking and cleaning up. There was even a washer and dryer, which made it convenient for doing a load of our dirty clothes. The cabin had lots of room to spread out. The bedrooms were comfortable with rustic décor. There was another bedroom called the “Maid’s Room.” It boasted a futon, half bath, and TV/DVD player. The cubs enjoyed watching their shows and videos in the Maid’s Room. However, the claw foot bathtub was a favorite for all. The claw foot bathtub bathroom served three bedrooms. There was another bathroom with tub and shower off the kitchen. There were plenty of towels, soaps, lotions, hair dryers and toiletries for everyone in our group. We all loved the glassed-in front porch for reading and drinking a cup of coffee. One morning, we had the pleasure of watching a huge bull elk scraping his antlers on a tree in the front yard. The front porch was a great place for relaxing and watching the cubs playing on the swing in the front yard or having fun with a game of horseshoes. Our group enjoyed many games together in the front yard and will treasure the memories. It was a weekend we will always cherish and hope to return to again and again. During our visit, we celebrated two birthdays and we couldn’t have imagined a better place to pass the good times. You will love this cozy and warm “Cabin in the Woods.” I know this Bear had a wonderful time! The VRBO Bear

Very warm and cozy. Everything you need with little notes to help. Was worth every penny to stay here. Looking to book again.

Private Older House

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the lovely sun room, clean hot tub, cozy front room with a fire place, and private location of the house. The house is not dirty, but clean would be an exaggeration (left over lids from plastic water bottles from previous guests in plain sight, food particles attached to numerous kitchen utensils, coffee maker with grounds in it). Unfortunately, these finds take away from the experience.

Cozy cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Whispering Pines was delightful in every way. The house is beautiful. Living areas are cozy, comfortably furnished and welcoming. The kitchen was well-stocked with cooking tools, condiments, spices, coffee, tea, etc. We loved that there were coats and fleeces available in case we didn’t bring sufficient warm clothes. Bedding was plentiful. Towels were soft and thirsty. The hot tub was warmed up and ready for us when we arrived. The entire house was spotlessly clean. The location is perfect for visiting the National Park and for wandering about in Estes Park. Carolina, the manager was very helpful throughout the rental process, answering our questions and providing assistance when needed. Marisol, the maid, made sure the house was spotless when we arrived, and came over exactly on time Saturday morning to assist with a minor issue. We could not have been happier with our stay at Whispering Pines. We would recommend this house to anyone visiting RMNP.
