About the property

Vacation home, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps up to 6)

Step back in time to a bygone era when vacations were actually relaxing. Whispering Pines vacation home, a charming rental retreat only 2 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park (and right across the road from the Big Thompson river), was built with integrity and beautiful craftsmanship which has been maintained throughout the years. There aren't many of these left.

Here you will find Old Estes charm, updated with today's amenities in the quaint mountain town of Estes Park. While the cabin offers all the amenities of a modern comfortable home there has been a concerted effort in its restoration to retain the look and feel of this wonderful old property.

Nestled among aspen and ponderosa pine trees, some of which are hundreds of years old, this is an heirloom historic 1928 property.

The 1 1/2 acres with mountain views and rock outcroppings contribute to the sense of solitude. This home is filled with tasteful and comfortable furnishings, and the town of Estes Park is only a 1/2 mile walk away. ( There are no sidewalks but we walk along the grassy shoulder ; it's a 30 mph road.)

Here is the perfect place to come and escape the summer heat (daytime temperatures are generally in the 70's to mid 80's and evenings get into the 40's and 50's) as well as enjoy the serenity of the mountains year round, and a wonderful place for people who appreciate vintage flair and the grace of years past.

Enjoy the all season sunroom-- the perfect place to play cards, read, sip a cup of your favorite beverage, visit with friends or family, or just relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Big Thompson River. There are plenty of windows to take in the beauty and tranquility of the mountains, including the deer and elk that often wander through (and even the occasional bear).

The entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is just 5 minutes away, with many, many trails to hike, snowshoe or even for backcountry skiing. The Eldora downhill ski area is an hour drive away.

We provide a collection of DVD's, games, and books, including mountain interest and local information. We also have extras to make your vacation comfortable and safe-- first aid kit, flash light, fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide detector, cooler, snowshoes upon request, etc.

Much effort has been taken to care for and furnish our mountain cabin and we want our guests to feel welcome and comfortable, and to enjoy it as much as we do. We are proud to provide a clean and smoke-free environment (smoking is allowed outside). This had been a family home for 80 years and has only been made available for rentals in the past 10 years.

This Estes Park cabin has it all--lots of character, a large wooded lot providing privacy without isolation, across the road from the river with no buildings in-between to spoil the view or muffle the sound, walking distance to downtown, a huge stone wood-burning fireplace, mountain views, high-speed wireless internet and room inside and out to spread out and relax.

This place has a sense of history and stands out from the crowd; a place you won't forget.

Note- two bedrooms are connected, meaning you walk though one to get to the other.

Beautiful Wildlife in Your Own Front Yard

VRBO Bear stayed here

Sep 25, 2009

The “Whispering Pines Cabin in the Woods” was truly a perfect retreat for a family reunion. Sue, the owner, was a delight to work with- from the first time we spoke to her to after we returned home. The location offers the best of both worlds. It offers solitude, but is close to Estes Park’s wonderful shops, restaurants and “Fun City." During our stay we visited the art fair and walked through the town, taking in all the little shops to get souvenirs. The moment we arrived, we realized the cabin was bigger than it looked in the photos. After walking in the front door, there’s a large combination dining area/living room, with a huge stone fireplace and hearth. The living room features a flat screen television VHS/DVD player with an assortment of videos and DVDs. Readers enjoyed browsing a nice collection of books. The Wi-Fi connection was great and we used it to research local activities and restaurants. The dining room had a large table that comfortably sat everyone in our group (ten people) for meals and board game evenings. There was a gas fireplace that keeps the place warm and toasty. The cabin’s craftsman style décor and lodge furnishings made the interior feel very cozy and quaint. The kitchen included all the dishes and utensils one needed for cooking and cleaning up. There was even a washer and dryer, which made it convenient for doing a load of our dirty clothes. The cabin had lots of room to spread out. The bedrooms were comfortable with rustic décor. There was another bedroom called the “Maid’s Room.” It boasted a futon, half bath, and TV/DVD player. The cubs enjoyed watching their shows and videos in the Maid’s Room. However, the claw foot bathtub was a favorite for all. The claw foot bathtub bathroom served three bedrooms. There was another bathroom with tub and shower off the kitchen. There were plenty of towels, soaps, lotions, hair dryers and toiletries for everyone in our group. We all loved the glassed-in front porch for reading and drinking a cup of coffee. One morning, we had the pleasure of watching a huge bull elk scraping his antlers on a tree in the front yard. The front porch was a great place for relaxing and watching the cubs playing on the swing in the front yard or having fun with a game of horseshoes. Our group enjoyed many games together in the front yard and will treasure the memories. It was a weekend we will always cherish and hope to return to again and again. During our visit, we celebrated two birthdays and we couldn’t have imagined a better place to pass the good times. You will love this cozy and warm “Cabin in the Woods.” I know this Bear had a wonderful time! The VRBO Bear

Great cabin, location and hot tub!

  • 5 of 5

Cabin is very comfortable, easy access to town although road a little busy for walking, very easy access to park and the hot tub was wonderful after a long hike! There is a ton of living space in the cabin- but we loved sitting in the winterized porch with 3 walls of windows

Beautifully maintained older home.

  • 5 of 5

This is obviously an older home that has been beautifully maintained. Everything (plumbing, electrical, appliances, etc.) worked perfectly. The interior is stylish, but maintains the charming older feel. We felt extremely comfortable at the house. We greatly appreciated the little notes that were posted with valuable information. Overall, it was very relaxing stay.

Wonderful Visit

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed at the cabin in late July. 2 Adults and 2 College age daughters - we had plenty of extra room in the cabin. The cabin location was perfect --- off from the really busy roads in town, yet close enough to take a short drive to restaurants, shopping, the Park, etc. The sun room was our favorite spot for morning coffee and evening discussions. We would open all the windows and just take it all in. So beautiful and peaceful. We used the Hot Tub every night after returning from the Park. Lots of wildlife around - we had deer and elk in the yard every day and a bear visit in the night. The cabin is very well stocked and clean. Everything we needed was there. We grilled dinner outside every night and went out to eat just once. Loved the photo book in the cabin but wish there was more on the history of the house. We were curious when it was built, who had lived there previously, etc. My only suggestions... more fans for hot summer nights, a more sturdy kitchen trash can and metal grill tongs/spatulas for the grill.

Family Vacation at Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park

  • 5 of 5

A very cozy home with a well equipped kitchen, game cupboard and book collection. The hot tub and screened in porch were wonderful! Nearby we found plenty to do: hiking and visiting the Rocky Mountain National Park, playing mini-golf and all the games at Fun City, shopping, the Tram, Trout Heaven, and ATV rentals. Lots of restaurants in Estes Park, the ones we sampled were of medium quality.
