Why Martha Conley chose Downtown San Diego
If you can dream it, you can do it in this booming border city. But no matter what you choose to do, be sure to visit San Diego’s Balboa Park. This treasure trove encompasses 12,000 acres of natural beauty coupled with cultural conservancies. Here you can stroll through its 19 gardens, buy art directly from artisans, meander through its 17 museums and visit the world-famous San Diego Zoo. Experience beachside amusement with a retro vibe at Belmont Park where you can ride the Giant Dipper — it’s one of the last wooden roller coasters still in operation, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
What makes this Hotel Suites unique
HOP ON OLD TOWN TROLLEY TOURS Known for the most comprehensive sightseeing tours in the city, Old Town Trolley Tours has been transporting guests in San Diego for over 25 years. This is a flexible, entertaining way to see the best of the city, offering you unlimited opportunities to hop-on and hop-off and spend as much time as you wish at each of the stops. The tour will take you past more than 100 of the most popular historical sites, attractions, and points of interest. This San Diego city tour eliminates the need for you to drive your own car, search and pay for parking, or wait around for taxis. RIDE THE RED TROLLEY The public San Diego Trolley is good if you’re staying in or around downtown. You can catch it from various locations including the Santa Fe Depot and the San Diego Convention Center. There are three trolley lines (blue, orange and green) and there are more than 50 stations. Fares vary and the trains run an average of every 15 minutes, depending on the time of day. CATCH THE COASTER If you’re looking to leave downtown and check out some of San Diego’s beautiful Coastal communities, hop on the Coaster train. These trains connect downtown San Diego and Old Town with Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad and Oceanside. There are about 20 trains that run on weekdays and on weekends. TAKE THE CORONADO FERRY This ferry runs regularly across San Diego Bay between the Broadway Pier and the Convention Center and the Coronado Ferry Landing. It’s a short 15-minute ride with scenic views of downtown and Coronado. CALL FOR A WATER TAXI San Diego’s Water Taxis are on call between Harbor Island, Shelter Island, Downtown, and Coronado. TAKE A TAXI OR SHUTTLE As a last resort, there are always taxis and shuttle services available to get you from your hotel to the airport or area attractions. You’ll find many parked outside the most popular sights around the city or you can ask your hotel concierge to call you one.
