This home has a lot of charm & feels more like you're staying with family or a friend. The dog is super pleasant. The owner was friendly. The coffee was fantastic!
Thank you so much for your lovely review :-). It’s beautiful here all year in rural Delaware. We’re not far from the. Beach and we hope you visit again:).
We absolutely loved it!
Pet friendly, gracious host!
I was looking for a last minute place to stay with my lab in southern DE when my previous VRBO reservation was cancelled at the last minute. This listing had availability and looked perfect for what I was looking for- a quiet place, closer to the beaches, reasonably priced and pet friendly. Overall it’s the hospitality of the owner that really sets this place apart. From a fully stocked kitchen (she had pop tarts, pancake batter (and whipped cream!), popcorn, and a bottle of sparkling wine, just to name a few things!!), to candies on the pillows, to bringing over freshly baked cookies it was really such a pleasure to stay here.
Here’s a couple notes I took during my stay which may help future guests:
-There is a pretty busy road adjacent to the property that did cause some road noise to be heard inside the barn, particularly upstairs.
-While pet friendly, they have a dog (aptly named Rome) that roams the yard around the barn freely. If you plan to bring your pet and they’re not good around other dogs you may want to let the owner know.
-The towels were musty and honestly could probably stand to be replaced. I usually bring my own to VRBOs because I’ve had some places not leave any for guests so just something to consider.
-There were about 15-20 what I believe were sweet ants in the tub the first night I arrived. I washed them down the first night and they never came back. As the owner points out, you’re in the country so expect to see some bugs!
-There is dish TV on the first floor of the cabin. For some reason when I read this listing’s description I didn’t think it had any cable/dish service so I was pleasantly surprised to see that.
-The WiFi is satellite WiFi and they request that you only use it for light browsing. I had excellent cell reception in the barn (I have AT&T) so I just used my cell for anything on the internet and honestly never even connected to the WiFi.
The owners really are very thoughtful and every morning Sue would message asking if there was anything I needed. While attentive, I did feel like I had my privacy and if I didn’t want to interact with the owners it certainly wasn’t forced.
There’s a guest book in the barn that has entries from back to 2017 I believe so I’m surprised there aren’t more reviews on VRBO but hopefully my notes help shed some light on this listing!
Thanks for your review:) Did you know while we are new to VRBO & we've been hosting for 3 years? Our rating on AIRBNB is 4.9 overall and over 100- 5 stars. (the best rating in our location). Folks love it here for many reasons The main ones are natural setting in the woods, privacy on 80 acres with no neighbors, pet /family friendly and the amenities you mentioned plus more including outdoor Jacuzzi/shower, breakfast foods, hot tub (additional charge $50 night), bicycles, pool table, swings and attentive, caring hosts:)
Nice quiet country place to stay!
Small and quaint! Loved this converted barn/house in the country. Was very convenient to our activities in DE. Decor is very eclectic... a country/modern/horsey/farmhouse look to it. It was rainy and cold when we were there so we didn't get to enjoy the outdoor fire pit, jacuzzi, or shower. Great hostess... Sue brought us crabs and cookies! She was very welcoming! Thanks for a great vacation!
