Award-winning Character Holiday Apartment in a Catalan Farmhouse ("Granados")

Apartment on the ground floor, for two to three people, located quietly at the back of the old farmhouse. You enter through a private terrace. With a living room, a comfortable bedroom and a 'wet-room' style shower room.

El Portal is an early 19th Century farmhouse (mas), renovated and decorated to a high standard, on the edge of Vivès, a sleepy little village situated at the foot of the eastern Pyrénées, close to Céret and Collioure.

Against the backdrop of majestic Mont Canigou, Vivès nestles amongst more gentle, rolling hills covered in vineyards and forests of cork oaks and mediterranean pines. Yet access by car is easy: just 10 minutes from the A9 motorway, 10 minutes from a bathing and boating lake and 25 minutes from the Mediterranean beaches. Our region is full of interesting history, art and music, not forgetting of course the renowned wine trail. With plenty of country tracks around, this is also an ideal setting for rambling, bike rides and many other activities revolving around nature.

A lovely characterful apartment

The apartment had everything we needed for a very relaxing stay. It was very clean and comfortable. We had a great stay as there is lots to do and see in the area - it's mid way between the coast and the mountains. Vives is a small attractive village. Unfortunately the village restaurant was closed during our stay so this meant a short drive if we wanted to eat out. There is a nice outside area at the apartment for eating al fresco. Fred and Mark the owners are very hospitable and helpful. I would not hesitate to recommend El Portal as a great place to stay in this lovely area.

Très bon séjour à Granados!

Nous avons passé un très bon moment, le logement est très propre, fonctionnel et situé à proximité de nombreux points d'intérêts. Nous avons particulièrement apprécié la gentillesse, et les délicates attentions de Fred et Mark...encore un grand merci!

Built with love and care.

El Portal was built with love and care, and we could feel it in Fred and Mark's hospitality and in every inch of their beautiful Mas. We stayed in Granados, a spacious two room apartment with a superbly equipped kitchen, including a washing machine and a walk-in shower. Every appliance was not only of the best quality, but color-coded to suit the flat. 4 days were hardly enough to follow all of Fred's travelling advice. El Portal is a - great base to get to know French Catalonia. The restaurant next door is a true find. We'll truly make an effort to return soon for a longer stay.
