About Kathy Doran

My name is Kathy Doran. I am the owner of this beautiful Hawaiian vacation home. I actually bought it as my retirement home, then my daughter had children and I could not live away from my grand-babies. So, lucky you, my house is available!

Kathy Doran purchased this house in 2007

Why Kathy Doran chose Kailua-Kona

This home has a beautiful ocean view. It is perfect for family reunions and large groups. 12 people can sleep in beds and we have futons and port-a-cribs for additional sleeping. I have a wonderful property manager. Her name is Kim Baumgartner. Please do not call her to book this unit. She will help any of our guests though and her number is provided at the house. She is a local person, so she has many connections on the island and can help with your needs, such as a chef to cook that special meal. I don't book my property until I have shown the prospective guest the house on my website, so that you know the layout and if the house can accommodate your group. The house is located in a quiet family neighborhood. I operate a legal unit and conscientiously pay my taxes on this rental. My tax ID number is 0two8-fourone1-nine04zero-zero1.

What makes this house unique

Some of our guests favorite things about this house are:

Enjoying the gentle way the warm tropical breezes blow through the palms.

Watching the way exotic Hawaiian birds and island geckos dart about.

Visiting the orchids, ginger and heliconia, misty in the morning as you stroll through the lush garden.

Swimming in the clear, aquamarine solar heated pool, day or night.

Having a spacious layout that provides many opportunities for entertaining, or just for solitude.

Best of all, watching for the green flash as sunset unfolds after a perfect idyllic tropical day in paradise.

Big Island Paradise.

  • 5 of 5

What can I say? We had the most wonderful time at this home, a memory that will last us a lifetime. We were looking for a quiet home to spend a week of relaxing, something in a quiet neighborhood but close enough to island activities so that we didn't spend hours in the car getting to all of those special places. The location of this home is perfect. Close to the town and all the shopping needed or wanted on the big island, restaurants and beaches. It is the perfect location for all of the before mentioned.

When we arrived at the home we were delighted to find the caretaker on premise to answer any and all questions we might have. She was a charming lady who took care to notice the make up of our group and point out the special things available to each of us.

The home owner has taken care to provide pack and plays for children, high chairs, strollers and even baby gates - all of which were important to us. In addition she has provided separate beach toys/accessories in the garage including beach shoes, towels, toys, beach chairs, beach umbrellas and snorkeling equipment for a number of people. We lacked for nothing!!! In addition she provided in the pool room toys for the pool as well including floaties, baby rings, noodles, etc.

The pool was heated by solar and so comfortable in temperature that we could swim any time of day or night and found the temp to be perfect for whatever time we chose to swim.

The kitchen(s) is (are) supplied with absolutely every appliance and utensil one could possible ask for. The abundant supply of dishes, pots and pans, glasses etc. were amazing.

The bedrooms (4) all have towels, both beach and bath, for all staying in the rooms. There are TV's in each of the bedrooms (although we didn't spend time watching much tv) with cable for each and internet access both inside and outside out side the house.

All in all it was one of our best vacations ever, not only because the weather was perfect, but primarily because of all the amenities this properties has to offer. I would recommend it to all.

Fabulous Hawaiian vacation home

  • 5 of 5

Kathy's clean and beautiful spacious home was the perfect place for our family gathering. We had 7 adults and 4 young kids. There were enough beds for everyone. The house is well located and the back yard is very secluded with a nice swimming pool which was the the kids favorite place to be. We saw many beautiful sunsets from the back yard and upper deck. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pots and pans, and condiments. She had beach towels, beach umbrellas and chairs to take to the beach. She had another set of towels and toys for the pool. It was nice not having to pack beach towels and having the beach equipment right there. The house is located close to downtown and beaches. Kathy was very helpful with information about places to go before we went over. I would highly recommend this house as a palace to call home in Hawaii and hope to return one day.

Kona's Perfect Vacation Home!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in Kona was made more special with the accommodations at this beautiful island home. It was immaculately clean, well-stocked with everything we needed for the kitchen and the views of the ocean at sunset from the upper balcony could not be beat. We had 6 adults and 3 children staying at the house. It was spacious and we all had plenty of room . My grand-children named the downstairs family room as "their room". It was great having a place where the children could play and romp around while the adults had the quieter living room space upstairs. The house was close to grocery shopping, downtown Kialua, the beaches and the airport. The owner was gracious and answered all my emails and phone calls promptly. We loved relaxing and eating by the pool on the lounges. We will certainly return to this Kona home in paradise!

Exceptional home in Kailua-Kona.

  • 5 of 5

We are five seniors who rented this beautiful home for three weeks in February 2017. This is a well situated home approximately 15 minutes from the airport and close to shopping, supermarkets and the ocean.

As soon as we arrived the home was more than what we expected. The outdoor space with solar heated pool, lovely garden, washroom facilities, BBQ grill, many seating areas was a relaxing area to sit and swim.

There is air conditioning in all foor bedrooms and main living areas which was a welcomed addition after a day of exploring the Big Island. Beds were comfortable in large bedrooms each with its own TV.

The home is ideally positioned - a 10 minute drive to Alii Drive, the main street right on the ocean and close to beaches, shopping and supermarkets. The house is exactly as described. The kitchen is fully equipped- there was nothing missing. We have rented many homes but this was one of our favourites.

Kathy, the owner, was such a pleasure to deal with. She provided us with all the information about her home before we left on our vacation. In the home she has also made available books and other tourist info for visiting the island. You will also find a generous supply of beach chairs, coolers, beach towels and snorkel equipment- everything you need for a day at the beach.

The property manager was very pleasant and helpful and met us at the home the day after our ariival to explain everything and answer any of our questions.

The listing is accurate in every way if anything understating the amenities.

We have travelled to the other islands but we prefer the Big Island since it has so much more to offer in terms of sights to see.

We rented a car in order to explore the island. Some of the sights we visited are:

Kahalu'u Beach Park - great snorkelling and 12 minutes from home

Greenwell Coffee Plantation

Volcano National Park - a must see

Akaka Falls & Rainbow Falls

Panalu'a Beach Park (Black Sand Beach) with greenback turtles sunning on the sand

Kealakekua Bay - Captain Cook Monument & spinner dolphins

Place of Refuge

The Painted Church

We highly recommend Blue Hawaii Helicopter Tours - a tour of the island and the volcano where we saw huge lava flows. We also took a boat tour where you get up and close to the lava flowing into the ocean with spectacular results!! The Hawaii Forest and Trail Tour was also a highlight.

We would recommend this rental home to family and friends and we would rent this beautiful home again!

Mahalo Kathy!

Perfect for Ironman World Championship Week!

  • 5 of 5

We were 11 adults in Kona for 10 days over Ironman World Championship Week supporting a first time competitor. We'd been advised to stay away from the craziness of Ali'i Drive, up the hillside where it's cooler and yet close enough to get downtown in a few minutes. Kathy's home in a quiet residential neighborhood just off the Queen K Highway was the ideal location. The home itself is gorgeous with every amenity you could ask for. It's modern yet homey and stocked with everything from spices to beach chairs to pool toys to many beach towels to every conceivable pot and pan to a large grill to 3 refrigerators. This is often not the case in many VRBO homes. As a tourist town Kona restaurants are expensive for a large group so we appreciated having a modern kitchen with everything needed to prepare meals and a large dining table. When we did dine out our favorite spots were breakfast at the Coffee Shack when snorkeling south of town, the Fish Hopper for breakfast after a morning practice swim/run on Ali'i and Huggos for Happy Hour and appetizers.

We particularly enjoyed sipping Kona coffee on the full width lanai with Pacific views. The pool was perfect temperature and Kathy has a special system that doesn't use chlorine.. ideal to cool off after a hot day at the beach.

From this great home base we got to Ali'i beaches and downtown quickly via Royal Poinciana, Kuakini, La Aloha or the Queen K. Venturing further afield we took the Queen K to the beaches and snorkeling spots north and south of town from Hapuna to Two Step and enjoyed beautiful sunsets on the beach. Half our party took a 2 day road trip around the island to see the waterfalls, rain forest and molten lava spewing in the ocean from the active volcano on the eastern half of the island. Our one regret was not booking more post-race vacation time as there are so many things to explore in the area.

On race day we followed our athlete around the 137 mile bike and run course using the 190 all the way to Hawi which provided stunning western vistas all the way to Maui.

We were surprised by the volume of traffic along the Queen K and learned to expect an average speed of 20 miles per hour and rush hours involved lots of stop and go traffic. We planned our time accordingly especially for airport pickup/drop-off trips.

Kathy is a great host who is very responsive and full of tips for making the most of your Big Island vacation.

~Relax in Paradise~

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful home! I hope you love amazing ~sunsets~and gorgeous views of the ~ocean~!The house is very spacious (there was 11 of us). It was a nice refuge after spending the day at the beach to come home to such a relaxing atmosphere. The decor was tasteful and the home immaculate. We used the barbecue many times. The kids (and big kids) swam in the pool almost every night (the pool water in particular was just right!). The gardens were very well maintained and pretty. The house was stocked with every pot, pan, knife and dish ware you could think of. In the garage there was an assortment of beach toys, beach towels, chairs, sun screen and umbrellas. There was also plenty of pool toys as well. The bathrooms were particularly pretty, with ornate tiles that gave it a "wow" factor. I would highly recommend this home to anyone but especially for large families. It suited us perfectly and Kathy was wonderful to work with. We would definitely stay again. *Mahalo Kathy*
