Overview

About the property

Apartment, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Completely renovated one-bedroom, two flights up, in a lovely upper west side townhouse ideal for couples looking to enjoy the New York experience. The tree-lined street, just steps from Central Park, is an instant getaway from the constant hustle and bustle that make Manhattan unique. It's a well-known street-one of the most unusual on the upper west side-and has been pictured in several major Hollywood films, including 'You've Got Mail.'

Just out the front door is our own specialty market for fresh fruits, vegetables, prepared foods, etc., run by two dashing Greek brothers who are out of central casting. Nearby are well-known upper west side restaurants like Gabriella's where you can sit in or out and enjoy a late afternoon margarita, Roth's Steakhouse, Trattoria Pesce Pasta, Gennaro's and the famous Carmine's with its family-style dining.

The apartment itself is comfortable and warm and thoroughly modernized with state-of-the-art appliances, including full sized washer/dryer, granite counters, lots of natural wood, an exposed brick wall to remind you of its construction at the turn of the century, leather living room furniture and a flat screen high definition TV. The bath is all marble, and no expense has been spared to provide the most comfortable queen-size bed.

There are two major subway lines nearby on Broadway and Central Park West. It's five minutes on the Broadway express to Times Square, a few more minutes to the Village and Soho. There a several bus lines within one block, and taxis are available outside the door, though you can take a leisurely stroll through the park to the Metropolitan Museum or saunter down Columbus Ave. to the Natural History Museum.

Please note that the apartment is suitable for one couple or single occupancy only. There are no accommodations for separate sleeping arrangements.

Quaint and Quiet Location

  • 5 of 5

First off Joe and Vera were great to deal with prior to our arrival, they even left a list of their favorites in the neighborhood. Genarro's Sicilian was amazing, Elizabeth's for breakfast was outstanding and Mani's market and the wine sop next door were so convenient. The apartment was perfect for 2 and would be comfortable for 3. The bedroom looks much nicer than the pics, all sheets and bedding is white. The living area looks better than the pics also and the kitchen had everything we needed to make breakfast from time to time. As with all NY apartments then bathroom is small however there is ample shelving above the toilet. Plenty of closet space in the bedroom, The location was fantastic, 3 minute walk to Central park and the subway. Or a 10 minute walk to the other subway lines. Very quiet street and very charming area, felt like a local. The apartment was very quiet, hardly heard anyone above us and only saw one neighbor the entire week. Will definitely refer this place to those traveling to NYC. Thanks Joe and Vera for your lovey place.

Live like a local

  • 5 of 5

We found the apartment to be extremely clean and welcoming, with everything you could need. It's a second story location, but the stairs were good exercise for us! It was nice to be able to cook for ourselves when we decided to stay in - but we spent much of our time out. Central Park is just steps away, and we explored it on daily basis. The Boat House bar was a daily destination, and a good walk for us. A subway stop is close by, and we were able to easily get around the city. Having had a previous, very bad experience with a VRBO in another state, I truly did not have high expectations - but now, I'm so happy to say that this stay has restored my faith. Thank you again, Vera, for our very pleasant stay in your VRBO apartment!

Beautifully decorated oasis in the heart of Manhattan

  • 5 of 5

We loved living like New Yorkers for a month, and this apartment was the perfect home base. It's in a great location—close to shopping, theater, museums, dining, and public transit (not to mention Central Park and Riverside Park)! Vera was an incredibly gracious host who made us feel welcome and ensured we were well taken care of. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a homey, neighborhood experience—for a short- or long-term stay. I hope we can come back again!

Cozy Upper West Side Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This condo was very clean, organized, comfortable and simple (which we like). It contained everything we needed except a hair dryer (multiple towels, pillows, dishes) and a guide on how the heck to turn on the tv! (Although the owner had provided her phone # and written not to hesitate calling but we didn't). Very quiet street half a block from Central Park West, 2 blocks from 96th St subway. It was HOT outside and tho the A/C didn't blast it definitely kept us cool and comfortable and it's not loud. Water pressure is adequate with plenty of hot water. This is a 2 story walk up with windows over the street. We did not hear any noise from neighbors. Bedroom is tiny - just enough space for queen bed with nightstand on one side. Good linens, mattress and pillows. Closet had a dresser in it and ample room for hanging clothes. Overall, we were really comfortable and pleased and would not hesitate to stay here again.

It looks just like the pictures!

  • 5 of 5

Aside from the stairs 😩?, the apartment was great! We did a little shopping at the market on the corner and were able to have breakfast every morning before venturing out to the city. I was a little surprised that there was no hair dryer. I must have misread the description. Because we had already been traveling for 10 days by the time we got there, we really appreciated the washer/dryer. The apartment was in a safe location, close to subways and, most important to us, close to the park! Plenty of towels available. We thought the bed was comfy. And, my hubby found the couch comfy since he accidentally feel asleep on it one night!😊? Vera is very sweet and sent out a great little letter with her neighborhood favorites that we appreciated. I wish it were two bedrooms since we would love to come back with our daughters someday. That said, when my hubby and I make our way back, we will definitely look to see if this apartment is available again.
