A wonderful place to stay!
This is an absolutely wonderful place to stay. Everything you could imagine that you need was provided. Baker is an absolute wonderful person to communicate with you, even brought supplies during our stay. We had plenty of room with very comfortable accommodations. The location was perfect for us & very easy to navigate in town. I can not say enough good things about this rental. We will definitely stay again when we visit Charleston!
Normally, I would just not write a review of a bad experience and chalk it up to my not being careful enough with my choice, but after thinking it over, I thought that other guests should know more about our experience. Unfortunately, our first view of the property was of 2 trash cans, overflowing with pizza boxes, bags and garbage all around it. I took a photo and almost didn't go inside the house but we arrived around 10:30 at night, tired from a long journey. The garage to the left of the house is in disrepair and there were bars on the back windows of the property facing the garage areas. Once inside, it was clean but furnishings and cabinetry were tired and old. When I looked in the owners book for instructions about the tv, there was also notes about how the neighbor will call the police if we raise our voices on the outside porch after 10:30 PM. Owner was asking us to help them out by being careful not to raise our voices outside. The house advertised central AC ( I saw unit in living room photo) but when we arrived, there were AC wall units in the master bedroom and living room and notes telling us how we needed to use the AC units to supplement the temps inside the house, some formula for temperature settings or the system would be overloaded, etc. I had no warning up front that I was going to be responsible for doing settings and monitoring outside temps. My husband was so put off that he wanted to leave but we were exhausted after 10 hours of driving, we slept there and it was fine. We left the next morning forgoing our 2nd night. We were very unhappy. The owner did assist us in finding the house and was pleasant but I would not go back.
I'm very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at our property.
Regarding the central AC system- My only request was very simple- please do not set the inside temp. below 75 degrees- if it's 95 degrees or hotter outside. I know you are from up north but down here in the south it is hot and humid every day with temperatures above 100 degrees. The week you came to Charleston was record-breaking heat. Our house does have a fully functional central AC system that works properly- but it is a basic fact of life that a central AC is not designed to cool a house for more than 20-25 degrees max. below the temperature outside. This is the reason we have two more window units to assist the AC so that it does not cause the system to freeze up which would require repairs and potentially ruin your stay.
As far as bars on the windows, there are none. Not sure what you’re talking about.
The trash cans- I'm very sorry that we store our garbage cans at the top of the driveway, and that you had to look at them when you arrived. I personally forgot to make arrangements for emptying the garbage as I was in South America so that is my fault.
I had no idea until now that you guys left a night early, but I suppose there would not have been much I can do. I hope you still had a good trip and were able to find more suitable accommodations! Take care.
We chose this house because of the proximity to our daughter's apartment in the neighborhood. It is a short uber ride to downtown. It was equipped with everything we needed. We enjoyed hanging out on the back porch and the large comfortable den. We would rent this house again!
Thanks so much for being a great guest! We'd love to host you again anytime! I'm sorry we didn't get to meet in person but please contact me next time you come to town and we should arrange something. Take care :)
