About Peggy Landin
We are passionate about log buildings and owned and operated Top-Notch Log homes for 40 years, building hand crafted log homes and structures with local timber for over 40 years on lakes all over the northern lake area. In 1998 our kids were young and we wanted to start a family endeavor so we purchased a small classic resort with 1100 feet of shoreline on the clearest lake in Minnesota. VRBO and other sites like this were not around and we know people wanted nice large cabins on the lake where they could gather with a group in places as nice, or nicer, then their own homes. So we proceeded to build three beautiful log lodges which were each on it’s own 200 feet of private lakeshore, so we could sell them as private homes if our plan didn’t work. But our plan worked and we have so many return guests it’s been fun to keep going. And now after 20 years of hosting groups and watching families grow and expand into more then one cabin, we are also seeing our guests wanting small places. So in the summer of 2017 we retired Top-Notch Log homes and put up two small log places on Caribou Lake, and now we want to invite your to come experience the beautify of the place and the feel of a real log home,
Peggy Landin purchased this Lodge in 1998

Beautiful place, wonderful area
This place should have hundreds of great reviews. The cabin had a visitors Log that goes back to when the cabin was built in 1999 and all the reviews praise the place, the lake, the area and hospitality of the hosts.
The photos do no do justice to the place. You have to see it to believe the beauty of the place.
Awesome place. Highly recommended !!!
The log house and the place where it is located is truly incredible . The cottage itself is masterpiece in every detail. We spend there wonderful time over New Year’s Eve. I was impressed how this log house is warm and cozy. Temperatures outside during our stay have reached -40•F on night . Inside was incredible warm. The cottage is located in the middle of Winter Wonderland. The views from house are breathtaking. This is the best log house I’ve seen so far for reasonable price. I highly recommend it for everyone. We plan to come back again in summer time.
Thanks so much for your praise for the place. I’ll share your review with my husband, the builder. You guys get an A+ for leaving it so clean. And for not conplaiming about the weather;)
Hope you had a safe trip back to Chicago.
Great cabin and fantastic host!
We rented this cabin over MEA weekend for a group that included dad's and kids for grouse hunting. Cabin was perfect for our group as we utilized the kitchen for one big dinner meal and the table for a nightly game of cards. Location was perfect and the view of Caribou lake could not be better. Highly recommended.
This cabin is extremely cozy!
This handcrafted log cabin is very warm and beautiful. It provided more than enough room for myself and 9 guests. We were fortunate enough to spend our time at the cabin in February during the winter. The beautiful drive alone through the secluded wooded trails leading to the cabin was an experience in itself having seen about 10 deers!
During the day we enjoyed ice fishing on Caribou Lake which was accessible by foot. Fishing licenses were easily obtainable at a nearby convience & tackle store located just minutes away with friendly and welcoming staff.
During the evening we enjoyed the wood fireplace, listened to music, and cooked food on the charcoal grill. The kitchen is fully stocked which made it very convienant when serving 10 people. There is plentiful beds and furnishings to make 10 people comfortable for a whole weekend.
Peggy, the host, is very friendly and helpful. She made our stay worry-free and enjoyable. We were very pleased and grateful of our experience at this cabin. I am giving serious consideration on returning and I highly recommend this place.
The perfect get away for quiet and beauty
Our family randomly stumbled upon Buckhorn and the beauty of Caribou Lake last summer. The lake is unbelievably clean with great fishing and an excellent rope swing on the other side of the lake. The cabins at Buckhorn make the stay the perfect get away. Large space with great decks and a sauna. Peg and Tim are the best hosts ever. We ended up visiting several more times after our first discovery and every time of the year this place is great. If you like cross country skiing the winter is great, if you like grouse hunting and leaf peeping the fall is great and even in the dead space of winter the calm, quiet and beauty of this place will relax the most stressed out city person. I can't recommend this place enough.
Thank you so much for your great review and kind words. We're glad you love the place. We haven't been good about requesting reviews from our guests, and after using this site to book a place for our recent trip, I discoved how important these review are. We appreciate you taking the time to write this nice compliments.
Great Weekend Getaway! :)
Thank you for a fantastic weekend staying at cabin #6. Being a group of Norwegians living in Minnesota it is not easy to find rental cabins equivalent to our cabins and cabin traditions back home in Norway, but staying at Buckhorn on Caribou Lake was definitely just like being back home, a feeling seldom sparked when being this far away from our home country. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway, this is surely the place to go. With quiet surroundings and wonderful nature, it will definitely get you away from whatever stress a normal working week might bring. Our group stayed over a weekend in mid-November, and even though there was no snow to cool us of when using the sauna, we did however take a dip in the lake, and yes it was rather cold, yet wonderful!
Thank you so much for a great weekend getaway at Buckhorn on Caribou Lake :)
