I am an outdoor enthusiast! I love fresh air, hiking, scuba diving, sailing, golfing and spending time with my family. Hawaii is my favorite place to relax meditate and rejuvenate.
Jim purchased this Condo in 2007
Why Jim chose Poipu
It's near the beach. Watching the sunrise over Shipwreck Cove on the Lanai that opens to a lush open green area while having my morning breakfast and sipping on the best coffee around! Watching the waves break from the great view from the kitchen window! Nice trade winds from the North East.
What makes this Condo unique
A short walk to the beach. Golf courses are 3 blocks away! The views from the living room, kitchen and lanai! Most of the year you won't miss the air conditioning.

Location, location and location.
Beautiful condo and the ocean view was great. Close to numerous restaurants and next door to the Hyatt. Had a small problem but the owners were quick to respond. We'd stay there again.
This is a great property! The condo is close to the Hyatt, ocean and amenities. There is a gym at the Hyatt resort for those wanting to work out when in Kauai (3, 5 and 10 day passes are available for purchase at the spa).
The condo itself is very well appointed. TV, great kitchen, washer and dryer, two washrooms and large living and dining areas. It's clean and quiet. The pool is 50 yards from the patio door.
Restaurants and shopping are about 5 minutes drive away. There is free parking 20 yards from the front door.
I would highly recommend Jim's place for your trip to Kauai. I will be staying there again on my next trip to Kauai.
Week @ Poipu Sands
Poipu is beautiful and quiet. Condo was clean and well-equipped. However, maintenance has been ignored. Kitchen sink faucet leaked and was about to fall off. Powder room toilet was broken and tank was completely loose. When owner was contacted, he sent a maintenance man to fix as best he could. faucet still needs replacing. Lounge chair on patio was rusted through and broken - inoperable. Couch in living room smelled moldy. Master bedroom is right next to the road; therefore noisy at times. Poipu Sands is a nice complex but barbecue facilities are not conveniently located. There was also a rat (s) in the kitchen.
Sometimes plumbing parts expire, we appropriately addressed the issue and promptly fixed it. Barbecue is at the pool less than 40 yards away. No one has ever mentioned that. When i was there in December the lounge chair was fine, first mentioned to us. Since this is an island climate things look rusty when left outside next to the ocean. There are no rat (s) in Hawaii. It sounds based on these comments that it rained a great deal during their stay ie: musty smell and field mouse possibly being chased inside. We have ongoing maintenance for treatment (pest control) each quarter.
Tranquil and Peaceful
We arrived to find a lovely, well decorated condo with a view that was so tranquil from most of the rooms and the lanai. The high end finishes made you feel very pampered as you prepared dinner or breakfast. The area is very peaceful and a great place to recharge. I loved having coffee in the morning watching the sun over the ocean and a glass of wine in the evening watching the palm trees sway and listening to the waves. It was a very enjoyable experience. Thanks
Your very welcome! Thank you for you review and your visit! Sounds like you had a GREAT time! The lanai feels like an extension from the condo and a private get away to do just that! Listen to the waves, watch the birds, chill out!
The 9 days we spent at this condo were so relaxing! It is very spacious. And we love being on the ground floor and just sitting and looking out at the beachview and the palm trees around the pool. Even though its abit of a walk from Shipwreck's beach you can still hear the waves most days and nights. Kitchen has everything you need. It was great having 1 1/2 bathrooms. Was a short drive to restaurants and shopping. Highly recommend this place to anyone. And this area also. We will be back.
Thank you so much! Sounds like you had a fantastic visit! Very glad to hear! It is amazing when you can hear the waves (helps with sleep to) at different times of the day and night. Yes great views as well. Your welcome back anytime!
great location, view, comfort !
Location couldn't be better with walking trails so close. Unit has great bathroom counter space and two sinks to give lots of room. Kitchen needs a new wine opener and tub needs shower mat as base is slippery. Furniture quite comfortable. Good cross breezes so didn't miss air conditioning. We would return to this unit in a heartbeat! Thanks! Suzanne
Thank you for staying and posting great comments! We will address the few items you mentioned in this review. Your welcome back anytime and so glad you enjoyed your time on this beautiful Island of Kauai and specifically Poipu Sands!
South shore best bets: Best short cliff stroll: To the left of Shipwreck Beach near the Hyatt. Beautiful views. Best snorkeling is around the sandy point at Po'ipu Beach Park. Best sunset view: At Spouting Horn Beach Park along Lawa'i Road not far from the condo. Best Hot Dog: Puka Dogs located in the Po'ipu shopping village up the street. Best treat: Baked Chocolate Souffle' at Roy's Po'ipu Bar & Grill. Best place to watch cliff jumpers: Shipwreck Beach at the Hyatt Po'ipu. Best swimming: Po'ipu Beach Park. Best Hotel Grounds: Grand Hyatt. Best chance of seeing a Beached Monk Seal: Po'ipu Beach Park. Best chance of seeing green sea turtles: The Point At Po'ipu. Best Romantic Restaurant: Tidepools at the Grand Hyatt or Beach House at Sunset. Just a five minute beautiful stroll along the greenbelt and sidewalks that are also lit up at night from the condo. Best drive close by: Koloa: Driving down Hwy 520 you come to the town of Koloa, sometimes called Old Koloa Town. This was the first sugar plantation town in all the islands when Kamehameha III leased the land to Ladd and Company in 1835. The town has much charm and is worth a stop. Next to Crazy Shirts Store there is a marvelous monkey-pod tree whose branches seem to meander forever. Across the street (kitty-corner) from the shops are the remnants of an old sugar mill built over 170 years ago. There you will also find a plague dedicated to the sugar plantation workers and a good (if somewhat dated) synopsis of sugar history on the island. Just a bit of history on the South Shore. Just before Spouting Horn (which is a must to see) and great shopping there as well, you will come upon the National Tropical Botanical Garden. This incredibly beautiful garden consist of 252 acres called the McBryde Garden and 80 acres call the Allerton Garden (742-2623). Even if you normally wouldn't visit a garden, you'll probably like this one. This is truly the garden Island! Island nightlife around Po'ipu: Steven-son's Library at the Grand Hyatt is designed to appeal to anyone who ever wanted to visit the private library of one of the Rockefellers. Richly decorated, bookcases filled with classic, pool tables (not billiards), large aquarium, chess tables and a terrace with GREAT ocean views. The bar is the center attractions and is beautifully crafted out of strips of koa and monkey- pod. A bit pricey though on the cocktails and some nights they have sushi. Live music nightly usually starting at 8p.m. Outside the resort, your best bet is Keoki's Paradise at 742-7534 in the Po'ipu Shopping Village. They have Hawaiian entertainment in their nice-looking lounge most nights. Hula demonstrations in the shopping center's courtyard some nights. (Great place to see lots of different birds as well that like to hang out )! Best Lu'au: If you've ever seen a movie that takes place in Hawai'i, odds are there was a lu'au scene. This is where everyone stands around with a mai tai in one hand and a plate of kalua pig in the other. There's always a show where someone is twirling a torch lit at both ends, and, of course, the obligatory hula dancers. The pig is baked in the ground(called an imu) all day and is absolutely delicious. Kaua'i's lu'au are somewhat smaller and more pleasant. All in all. a Lu'au can be a real blast. If your time allows for one it is highly recommended that you do so at the Grand Hyatt. This is a more traditional one as well. All in all its a beautiful Island with plenty to do!
