About Mark Reis

We bought this vacation rental for ourselves but started renting it to others while not using it. We live in North Austin. Moved here from Los Angels in 2005. We really like the smaller town feel the Austin area offers. We also opened a wine bar in Round Rock in 2012 just north of Austin.

Mark Reis purchased this condo in 2008

Why Mark Reis chose Lago Vista

We just loved the Island when we first came to it because it's such a unique spot. It was designed to be a Mediterranean style resort.

What makes this condo unique

The wonerful views give a relaxing feeling along with the ability to save money on meals with a full kitchen and the on site charcoal grills that make your food taste the way I remember it as a kid.

Secluded and peaceful...ish....

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed in this condo for our honeymoon the 1st week of October. Let me start by saying, the view is absolutely stunning and being there during the week almost makes you feel as if you have the whole island to yourself! Privacy is what we wanted and that is exactly what we received. The condo was clean and orderly, in a great central spot on the island, and very well laid out. It is the perfect distance from any attraction you desire in Marble Falls or Cedar Park but just far enough away to truly make you feel like you are away from all the hustle and bustle. Every night there were 20-30 deer who came to the front to be fed (one of the condo owners feeds them every night) and they quite literally will eat out of your hand! This was by far one of the coolest experiences of our whole trip.

Issues: First, I will confirm what previous occupants mentioned in that there is a strong sulfur smell on the balcony, at times. I did my research and the island uses cool water from the bottom of the lake to cool the HVAC units and once it cycles through, it returns to the lake via waterfalls (which are right under the balcony of this room) Although it makes for a soothing sound, the waterfalls also contain the sulfur pockets from the bottom of the lake which gives you the rotten egg smell. I suspect this is NOT a year round problem, but it is quite strong at times. Second, according to other condo owners, the fire alarm system on the island was recently tested and since that time, they have had several false alarms. The alarms went off at 4am on our 2nd night, and 3 times in one night on our last night. Needless to say, we were shocked and had no clue what was happening the first time and generally ignored them during the second go round (although, they are so loud it's hard to "ignore").

EVEN CONSIDERING the 2 issues, we will be back many times, in the future. We have even talked about purchasing a unit. The seclusion you feel here is immeasurable, the residents are extremely welcoming and very helpful with local food/attraction recommendations, and the best part is that you are only 30-40 minutes from any major shopping center you require.

Thank you, Mark, for allowing us to stay in your beautiful condo. We will be back!

Beautiful condo, great owner but...

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I have stayed on the Island before and prefer the property over traditional hotels. This condo is just as it appears in the pictures, it is very nice, with a beautiful view and in a great location. The towels are soft, bed is very comfortable and the condo is stocked with everything you need (bring drinks and food and you are set). I couldn't rate our weekend 5 stars just because there were some issues that took place (sulfur odor coming from waterfall and noises from the a/c) that definitely made our stay less than desirable. I want to note that these issues were out of Marks control. We notified him and he was very understanding of our complaints and he made the situation right in our eyes to the best of his ability. I would rent from him again but would check to be sure the property fixed the issues we experienced before staying.

Beautiful views and the apartment was SUPER clean. Very comfy bed with high ceilings, and a ceiling fan. The small deck was great for hanging out in the mornings and evenings. Property was very beautiful overall. Thank you!

beautiful condo

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at this complex previously and this condo is one of the best. The bed is so comfortable! The lake is gorgeous now that it is full. You can't beat watching the sun set over the lake. There is a sulfur odor on the deck that comes and goes. I've never experienced that during any other time I've been there so I'm not sure what's going on there. This complex is away from restaurants and shopping but that is why I like it. I would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful but very remote and stinky location

  • 3 of 5

The condo is set on a beautiful lake with a nice interior. For that I gave this condo a three; however, the condo reeked of sulfur which we assumed came from the man-made waterfall outside the patio door. Beyond the smell, this condo is not a place to stay if you are wanting to have a variety of restaurants or things to do close by. Just to get to the small town you pass through on your way in, it was a 20 minute drive - anything beyond that is 30-45 minutes. We were unable to find any areas where we could go swim within a 30 minute drive and we were ON the lake... The condo does not allow swimming off the docks and the closest swimming park we found with a swim beach was an hour away (across the lake but no shortcut through the water). The condo itself had towels for the pool and shower which was nice; however, the sponges provided to wash dishes were disgusting. A new set would have made me feel better about washing by hand. I did try to use the dishwasher; however only Eco Wash and Rinse Only were the only settings that work on the dishwasher and when I used them both to wash the dishes they didn't come clean. We did end up leaving dishes in the sink due to the dishwasher and the sponges and we were charged $10 - we expected the charge but were a bit annoyed that the owner didn't provide a fully functioning dishwasher and clean sponges to wash the dishes with. The restaurant at the condo is terrible... the food and the service. Additionally, we did rent a boat one day and all the docks at this place were under water... So we had to wade in water just to get to our boat. One kinda cute thing was the fact that deer walk all over the property and neighborhood and you can even feed them by hand. So in all... if you are looking for a beautiful location where you don't spend much time on the patio, you don't bring a boat because you won't be able to walk on the dock, you don't want to swim other than the pools (there are two), you cook all your meals and buy your own sponges to clean dishes with, and you don't want to do many things outside of the condo then this would be a great place to stay.
