About the property

House - 2 Bedrooms + Bunk Area - 2 Baths - (Sleeps 6-10)

Welcome to beautiful Lummi Island, one of the famous San Juan Islands!

Two Marvelous Island Retreats, for an Unforgettable Vacation Getaway:

Charming, intimate (and yet spacious) cottage facing the ever-changing ocean waters of beautiful Hale Passage, and featuring Magnificent Mountain and Water Views! Lots of boats passing, and ocean wildlife.

The seaside cottage has a large deck overlooking the view, a small 'morning coffee sipping' deck right on the beach, and several smaller personal spaces for more private pursuits. Collect shells and beach glass as an otter looks on, or watch the wild sea birds and soaring eagles, endlessly fascinating.

There are two good sized bedrooms (queen beds) facing the water, and a third, smaller, extra room with bunk beds. This unique and engaging cottage (actually a well-designed two-story house) is ideal for a family with children, or for two families to share.

Enjoy these great features:: Both are quiet, private and serene, situated on a smallish but beautiful island, and away from the press of city life. And yet, when you get the urge, you find that you are but a short drive from the city excitement and activities found in beautiful Vancouver BC, sophisticated Seattle, and friendly Bellingham, Washington, and many quaint smaller towns along the beautiful Pacific Northwest coast, harbouring artists, great food, and lots of scenery. Nearby, you will find plenty of hiking, biking, dining, relaxing, and sightseeing.

Walk down to the beach and gather your seafood repast yourself, or buy that day’s seafood catch, fresh and delicious from a local merchant.

Buy eggs fresh from hens raised and sold at many roadside stands (always on the 'honor system'), by your friendly neighbors on the island.

For special occasions without leaving our beautiful Lummi Island, you can visit either a fine gourmet restaurant or a friendly local café/watering hole, both with great food.

For rates and further information, and to live the good island life for a time, call your friendly and charming host and hostess, John and Marcia Apolis, at the phone number listed below, or visit our websites.

We are sure that you won't be disappointed!! And by the way, Friendly and Considerate Dogs are Welcome!! (With a pet deposit and cleaning fee.) We want your stay to be wonderful!

Have you ever wanted to live on an island away from city stress? Than come to Lummi Island, a quiet sister to the neighboring San Juan Islands. A few short minutes on the Whatcom Ferry you arrive on an island that is calming, friendly and soothing to the soul. Hunt for sea glass on the expansive shores of the island. Gaze out to sea and transport back in time to the days of old. Greet the friendly native islanders and bathe in their returned hellos. Marcia, the owner is a one of a kind lady, with a one of a kind cottage for you to share.

Pure Island Life

  • 5 of 5

I just returned from Marcia's Flying Fish Cottage on Lummi Island. It was everything I expected from looking at the pictures online, and so much more. Marcia is the perfect hostess, she greeted us with her big warm smile and her handsome dog. She walked us through the cottage and blessed us with her stories about her treasures and how the cottage functioned. There was loads of information and books on local landmarks for us to browse through. Her home was super comfortable and warm and the views of the water and Mt. Baker were breath taking. The Island folk were like stepping back in time, all waved at us as we passed and were there if we had questions that needed answering. The local artisans had wonderful wears from us to buy, knitwear, blown glass, and pottery were just a few of the items I bought for gifts. The Island Café served tasty and reasonably priced yummies. There was so much to see and do in the surrounding area, Seattle, Mt. Baker, the San Juan Islands and the border to Canada were all within driving distance. BUT, if you go into Canada prepare for a grilling from the border crossing. Whew! we felt like criminals after all their questions. It was a learning experience from our last pre 9/11 crossing. If you want a mystical, magical, relaxing, and just time to unwind from your everyday hectic lives, please go to The Flying Fish Cottage. You will come away with an old timey contentment and a rejuvenated soul. Thank you Marcia for being there for us City dwellers.

A Wonderful Laid-Back Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We've been to the Flying Fish several times. We just can't stay away! Marcia, the owner, is gregarious, amazingly hospitable and full of energy and ideas. Morning coffee with the view from the cottage deck is breathtaking and quiet; a wonderful break away from the noise of the city. We plan our evenings cooking on the BBQ or creating gourmet meals in the fully-equipped kitchen (you may want to bring your own non-stick cookware). You'll enjoy the eclectic decor, the color, the view, the comfort, the beach, the Fish!

Lummi Island is the northernmost of the beautiful San Juan Island chain in the Pacific Northwest. We think of it as more intimate and welcoming than the larger islands to the south - and easier to get to as well (ferry lines are much smaller or non-existent!) and not so crowded with too many people. The climate is generally mild and exhilarating, and we have lots of sunny days with cool, breezy evenings. The island is perfect for walking, biking, picnicking, and relaxing. There are a couple of very nice restaurants on the island, and fresh seafood is available to grill up on your private deck. For more active fun, take a short drive into friendly Bellingham, down to sophisticated Seattle, or up to beautiful Vancouver BC (ay), where lots of civilized amenities abound. Or, take a drive to Mount Baker for a hike or skiing, one of the most beautiful mountains in the world. Come see us, we believe that you will love it here just as we do.

Other Activities: Shopping, Kayaking, Boating, Shelling, Wildlife Viewing, Horseshoes
