We invite you to bring your family and friends to Brevard for a relaxing stay at Point of View. Perched on five secluded acres, Point of View overlooks the French Broad River valley and the stunning mountains of Transylvania County yet it is only 10 minutes from picturesque downtown Brevard. This very private mountainside setting provides postcard worthy views of the French Broad River winding through the valley with the granite face of Cedar Rock rising skyward and all of this is framed by the gentle peaks of the Blue Ridge mountains.

If you are looking for variety in their vacation, Brevard is a particularly great vacation destination. Locally, the small mountain town of Brevard offers a diverse array of unique shops, art galleries and great restaurants. Beyond the town limits you will find thousands of acres of state and federal forest land to explore: Year-round enjoy exploring the road bike routes and mountain bike trails that slice through Transylvania County. Rent a canoe or kayak and float down the French Broad River to really immerse yourself in quiet and peacefulness. If you choose to drive a short distance, take in the Biltmore Estate in Asheville or a performance at Flat Rock Playhouse near Hendersonville. After a day of shopping or exploring, come home, build a fire in the outdoor fire pit, grab your favorite beverage and watch the sun slip behind the mountains overlooking the French Broad River Valley. As the saying goes, “Life is good”.

The chalet style house features a magnificent multi-story native stone fireplace in the sunny, spacious Great Room. Soft fleece blankets, books, playing cards, puzzles, wi-fi and a flat screen cable television are provided for when you just want to loaf. If cooking is your thing, you will find the kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils, pots, pans, casserole dishes, food processor and the like so cooking is a breeze. We also strive to keep a basic supply of dried herbs & spices, oils, and sweeteners so you don't have to spend a fortune on basics at the grocery store just to cook a flavorful meal. Once the cooking is done there is a large dining table in the Great Room that seats eight to ten people. In warm weather, you might want to dine on the deck with the pastoral valley view as a backdrop for your meal. As for sleeping, the three bedrooms are comfortably appointed with a queen size bed in the master bedroom on the main level and double beds in the two upstairs bedrooms.

About The Owner

I am a native of Brevard, living on a nearby mountain with my wife and two sons. We all are pretty active and love living in the mountains where we can hike, bike, ski and snowboard. My wife and I have various business interests but we spend much of our time rejuvenating various pieces of real estate we have acquired throughout our marriage. I inherited Point of View after my parents passed away. It was their home for many happy years and now it is a place to share with others. It is my desire for Point of View to be a place for families and friends to gather, relax and refresh themselves with quiet moments and conversation while rediscovering the simple pleasures of life in a comfortable home with a view that is a daily gift.

The Owner purchased this house in 1968

Why The Owner chose Smoky Mountains

I can take no credit for having a second home in Brevard as I am merely the grateful son of some determined, hardworking people who loved Brevard but most especially this piece of heaven we now call Point of View.

What makes this house unique

Point of View is a great spot to stay because it is so close to the county's many waterfalls, hike and bike trails and river access points.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Wendy

I've tried to do a review but not sure I completed it successfully?? I got a pop up that said to log onto facebook to complete the review?? I don't have facebook?? I went directly from your link that you provided ( trip advisor)

This is the review:

Dru and Wendy provided our group with a wonderful weekend get-away experience. We completely enjoyed our stay at Point of View! Being from flat Florida, the drive up to the house on the winding mountain road was an adventure in itself!

The mountain views are absolutely stunning and spectacular! In late October, the leaves were beginning to change and the morning and evening air was cool and crisp.

The home is clean, well-maintained, and well furnished. Comfortable couches, a large dining table, and a well-supplied kitchen made the weekend so easy! The beds were comfy and the linens of good quality. There is a gorgeous large stone fireplace! There is also a flat-screen TV, and Wi-Fi available. The wrap around deck was absolutely the best! I loved having my morning coffee on the deck overlooking the valley shrouded in fog…slowly lifting as the sunrise greeted the day!

We enjoyed being at the home so much---fires in the fireplace, relaxing, cooking, reading, playing games, and enjoying the stunning views at sunrise and sunset, that it was difficult to leave the mountain and go explore the surrounding area. We did manage to visit an apple orchard and winery in Hendersonville, as well as explore the charming town of Brevard (home of the elusive white squirrel).

We cannot wait to make this an annual autumn trip and stay at Point of View again!

Wendy---Thank you again for the wonderful hospitality!

Great mountain getaway!

Point of view was the perfect getaway for our group! Absolutely amazing view from inside and on the deck. The house felt larger than it looks in the photos and is clean/well maintained. Only warning would be the drive up to the house is steep and very curvy and the driveway is gravel/a little rough so I would recommend a 4-wheel drive vehicle. However, our friends Honda Accord was able to make it up, just with extra caution on the driveway. Absolutely loved this house, secluded and yet close to Brevard and great hiking locations! Thank you so much to the owners!

Perfect View

We had a fabulous Labor Day weekend in this comfortable cabin. The kitchen was well stocked, the linens clean and plenty available and the beds comfortable. We arrived in the dark, but the additional directions provided by the owners made it easy to find. We had several wonderful evenings with dinner at the roomy table and then enjoying the sunset and view with our family that lives in the area. We made many special memories here! We will be back.

What a perfect vacation rental. The view was amazing, the house was clean and well equipped. The location is close to town, yet also close to all of the hiking and biking in Dupont and Pisgah.

We will be back next year.

Overall, the house was warm and welcoming. However, the house(I'm sure because of the heatpump) was cold! We had to turn the thermostat way up to warm up the house. I'd recommend having a celing fan in the master bedroom to circulate the air. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything needed to cook with.

The driveway was bumpy. I suggest anyone that drives a car that sits low to the ground to take precaution and drive into the homesite very slowly.

Thank you for allowing us to use your home and bring in 2015!

Very convenient to town! And the view is beautiful.

The owners go out of thier way to make sure you have adequate directions to the house and also gives you feedback after your checkout.

I would recommend this home to those that want a home away from home.

Owner's Response: Lisa, We are glad you rang in the new year with us at Point of View- kind of a inspirational place to start the new year looking out at that view! We are pleased that you found the house to be well appointed, convenient and beautifully situated. Also, thank you for letting us know you found the house to be cold because it reinforced our thought that installing ceiling fans in the Great Room would make a world of difference in regulating the temperature throughout the house- the huge vaulted Great Room ceiling is lovely and dramatic but it does make heating and cooling a challenge. Ceiling fans will definitely be added. Regarding the driveway: since we keep the driveway scraped, I suspect the driveway bumpiness you refer to are the three water breaks that run perpendicular to the drive, channeling any excess rainwater off the driveway, thereby preventing rutting and general erosion. The water breaks are a necessity to preserve the drive but I have already revised our driving directions to include mention of their presence so no one is caught off-guard. We sincerely appreciate your taking the time to write a review and for your valuable feedback about your guest experience. We are only able to improve when we have specific feedback such as you provided. Thank you so much!! We would love to have you stay with us again so bookmark us for future visits. All the best to you for 2015!

That view!!!!

Need I say more? It’s amazing. Point of View is the perfect home away from home. Everything we needed or wanted was here!

We loved the waterfalls in Dupont. Also visited Connestee Falls. Rode to Asheville and played at the fun park and WNC Nature Center, worth the trip for the kids.

That view! WOW!

Thank you for a beautiful place to stay and relax.

We had the perfect steak and potato dinner for Thanksgiving! Grill worked great.

A breathtaking view

  • 5 of 5

Point of View was a perfect place for us to stay while our boys were at camp. The view couldn't have been better. The cabin/house feels relatively isolated, but the directions were perfect and it is a quick drive down the mountain to Brevard. The house was clean, and the kitchen was very well-outfitted. It is not a luxury property, but it had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable, and there were plenty of clean towels and cozy blankets for our group! The owners and caretaker were available and helpful when we needed them.
