Very simple 'the best location in ReykjavĂk'
Welcome to Ăingholtin, ReykjavĂk
FULLY LICENSED
This neighbourhood in central ReykjavĂk is a historic area. In the strictest sense, its name collectively refers to only a handful of streets around ĂingholtsstrĂŠti, but nowadays, citizens refer to the whole neighbourhood south of BankastrĂŠti as Ăingholtin.
Colourful houses are a prominent feature, many of which were built around the turn of the 20th century and in the following decades. Many of ReykjavĂkâs most affluent citizens made the area their home and thereâs history around every corner. Ăingholtin draws its name from the farm Ăingholt (literally, Parliament Hill), built in the late 18th century when ReykjavĂk was still just an ecclectic collection of semi-urban farmhouses.
As the neighbourhood is centrally located and close to many official government bodies, it has become a diplomatic centre and many embassies are based here.
When staying in this interesting area, all services are close by and the vibrant city life is but a few footsteps away.
No matter whether youâre in Iceland on business, here for a weekend mini-break or intend to explore more of the country, the Ăingholt area is an ideal location.
The neighbourhood is immediately south of Icelandâs main shopping street, where youâll find a wide range of boutiques, shops, art galleries restaurants, cafĂ©s and bars. The Harpa Concert and Conference Hall is within walking distance, where architecture, music and spectacular views go hand in hand.
Buses and coaches are within easy reach, so you can enjoy exploring both the city and the countryside from your base in Ăingholtin.
