About Gary Kornfeld and Theresa Dupuis

We are a California family that fell in love with Montana. We enjoy sharing the bounty of Big Sky! Our kids and grandkids look forward to the endless activities available all year 'round.

Frankly, it's hard to leave after a week of a refreshing, exhilarating, Big Sky vacation in the mountains.

Gary Kornfeld and Theresa Dupuis purchased this chalet in 2007

Why Gary Kornfeld and Theresa Dupuis chose Big Sky

We've traveled all over the world, and believe Big Sky is one of the most beautiful spots we've ever seen. Our Big Sky ski vacation is enhanced by our ski-in, ski-out location in Mountain Village's Cascade Development. The groomed ski trail runs alongside our driveway, carrying us down to the White Otter lift.

Wintertime transforms our backyard into a winter wonderland as our family and friends make snow sculptures, snow furniture and ski jumps.

Summertime brings us out for our Yellowstone National Park vacation - less than an hour away. We enjoy hiking Ousel Falls, Lava Lake and Beehive Basin. The two disk golf courses are addicting, and the zipline exhilarating!

Our entire family spends the whole day on the Gallatin and Madison World Class Fly Fishing rivers only to come back to SkyHaus exhausted, yet moments later we're playing board games or card games well into the evening. No matter how long we stay at SkyHaus, we never think it's long enough!

SkyHaus is about 1 mile from the fabulous Moonlight Basin Lodge which has several dining options, a stunning, room-sized, 4 sided fireplace, and incredible views of the ski area.

In the spring and fall, fly fishing the Gallatin and Madison rivers are a highlight. The Gallatin is about 15 minutes away, the Madison less than 1 hour. Yellowstone National Park's west entrance is about 50 miles away, and the closest to 'Old Faithful'.

What makes this chalet unique

Yellowstone National Park is so close you can easily day-trip it! Your Big Sky ski vacation is made easier by the ski in, ski out trail on our property. Very handy not to have to pack up the car with your gear and drive to the ski base area.

SkyHaus is a luxury rental and entertains easily as the open floor plan accommodates up to 14 people with ease.

The two steam showers are a favorite among the guests, who also enjoy the large private hot tub in the backyard.

Private WiFi keeps you in touch if you so desire and DirecTv (HD) is in all rooms except the bunkroom.

Our local property management company is available 24/7 for any emergencies that may arise. They also offer a full menu of fee-based services while you're here.

Guestbook comments from the owner

From the Comments on our HomeAway website:

This home was beautiful, well-stocked and clean. The view of Lone Peak was stunning. The best part was working with the owner of this home. She was extremely helpful in helping us prepare for our stay at Big Sky and making sure all our needs were met. The house was set-up beautifully for skiing with the trail going right by the house and lots of ski storage in the garage and laundry room. The only negative was the altitude. We didn't realize my husband would have trouble living at 8000 feet. Overall, though, we would highly recommend this home.

Wonderful!

Sky Haus was beautiful! The views and wildlife were so fun to watch. Loved being so close to so many attractions. We went horseback riding, whitewater rafting, hiked Beehive Basin, spent 2 days at Yellowstone, did some fly fishing and also went to the top of Lone Peak. It was event filled and a great vacation. Thanks for sharing your place with us.

Great Property, Great Location, Amazing Views

  • 5 of 5

I came here for a dads and kids vacation -- four dads, 10 kids, three days skiing big sky. The weather couldn't have been better for skiing. The cabin was great with all the amenities and a thorough and thoughtful amount of basic necessities that were well organized and easy to find. The location was easy to find and the extra land allowed the kids to play outside and sled after skiing (where do they get all that energy).

The one hiccup for us that isn't so much an issue of the cabin per se, but is important for early and late season guests to understand, is that just because Big Sky resort is open doesn't mean that the Cascade lift (that you need to ride in order to ski in the Sky Haus) is running and that the ski paths down to the resort are being groomed. Unfortunately that meant that the cabin wasn't ski-in-ski-out as we had planned. Rather than ski to and from the cabin with all the kids, we had to bundle everyone up, navigate parking at the resort, and have the hassle of getting everyone back to the cars (luckily for us, but also adding to the hassle, in massive snowstorms) at the end of the day. Not what we had planned and not really what we paid for (there are a lot of places that are cheap down in the Meadow if you're going to have to commute by car to the resort). Truthfully that was important enough to us that we would have rented a different place if we had known that's what we were getting. In fact we would rent a different place if we were going in the first or last two weeks of the season in the future.

But, provided you are going mid-season or during the summer when lift service to Big Sky isn't important, this place was magnificent. For all but about those four weeks of skiing when the house is not ski-in-ski-out, this place is everything you would want and better than advertised!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your feedback, we're so glad you loved the house. The ski trails are normally very well groomed, even in the early and late winter. We will continue to work with our homeowners association and Big Sky resort to make sure this is the case!

Wonderful, welcoming home

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 5 adults and 7 kids had a wonderful stay over Spring Break at this property. The kids had plenty to keep them busy downstairs, and everyone appreciated the main area with a great kitchen, plenty of room to eat, or relax by the fire with a view of Lone Peak. There were so many thoughtful touches to the house to make it inviting for all. The ski-in ski-out paths were maintained daily, but we didn't take advantage of them. It takes a while and the snow was patchy with the Spring conditions and was tiring for the younger kids. The drive to the ski areas was really so convenient, it did not impact our stay at all.

Sky Haus at Big Sky

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful, very organized home. Plenty of room for the number of people it will sleep. It is ski-in and ski-out but you wouldn't want to expect to do that for lunch. There are no taxis in Big Sky. You ought to have a car to get to the village center for provisions during your stay. We found that the doorman at the Summit hotel was willing to serve as a taxi a few times. There are not the big ski crowds that you see at the areas in CO. and CA. or Sun Valley or Jackson Hole. Even on the Sunday we skied, the only line was the initial lift from the village first thing in the morning.

Amazing ski house with breathtaking views!

  • 5 of 5

Our family absolutely loved this house. We wish we could be back there now. The views are unbelievable - we couldn't get over them. The house is perfectly decorated and has plenty of open space. The hot tub was fantastic, especially with the mountain in the background. We had two families with 9 people and there were plenty of extra beds. The owners provided everything you would need from pots and pans, tupperware, shampoo & conditioner, blowdryers and seasonings, and even a lovely welcome basket. (Note: the house is ski in ski out for skiers but not as easy for snowboarders. )
