About Iris Jaspers
Our story starts in Belgium, Mechelen, in 1997. It's the year we opened Sauna & Health Center 'De Bron' . Three years later we concentrated on the restaurant business and launched Restaurant 'De Kok & De Proever' and in 2001 Grand Café en Lounge Bar 'Toko Karachillio', all in Mechelen. It was quite a busy and stressy period but also very interesting. we wanted to move the south! It was our dream to renovate an old house into a charming B&B, also offering diners. In 2003 we found the perfect place in Saint Martin de Gurson, a little village in the Purple Perigord, in the middle of the vineyards. We were in love with the house, the environment! It has cost us a lot of energy and time, but we managed to make our dream come true! Le Guinot now has 5 guesthouses (for 2 to 5 persons: gites), a mannor house, a village house and 2 gîte-houses and a b&b at our neighbour’s . Our philosophy stayed the same over the years: we offer high quality services in a relaxed and personal environment, kidsproof & at friendly prices.
Iris Jaspers purchased this Cottage in 2009
Why Iris Jaspers chose Saint-Martin-de-Gurson
Welcome to « La Maison aux Volets Bleus » or translated « The House with the Blue Shutters » Building and renovating has become our second nature…. We fell for the charmes of another house … In this village house in Saint Martin de Gurson, at about 100m from our home, there used to be a pharmacy. It dates from the years 1800…now we put our stamp on it… The white gable is in a beautiful contrast with the clear bleu shutters. It’s a surprising house. It’s a lot bigger than it shows from the outside! We maintained the old authentic buidling elements as old doors and wooden floors, but as we love modern decoration too, we mixed it with lots of white and design. In total there are 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a library, a pool table room, a lounge with a big fire place, an open kitchen and a huge covered barn and fenced garden of 1000m2. The village house is only for rent as a whole and can accommodate 1 or 2 families. It sleeps up to 12 persons. Ideal for a unique vacation on a lovely spot; Towels and bed linen are included, as well as gaz, water, wood, water etc…as also a change over cleaning at Saturdays.

Wonderful property in quiet village
Thank you so much Irish for a lovely stay at your wonderful house. It was very comfortable with lots of space for 8 adults. Iris provided great recommendations for things to do around Saint Martin de Gurson and the village has a bar and a small shop. The jacuzzi was a big hit!
So good to hear! Thx a lot for this beautiful review! Iris
House exceeded our expectations with so much room. Felt like home so quickly.
We really enjoyed our stay. There was so much more space than we had thought before arriving. As the weather was so good we spent most of our time in the garden and pool. The hot tub was a lovely added luxury. We often wandered around the village (popping into the bar for a cheeky G&T on the way home). The village is beautiful and quiet. We walked to a local vineyard once (the rose Iris suggested was lovely in the sunny garden). We also explored some of the local towns and villages. We found Iris' suggestions of places to visit/eat really helpful. It meant we could avoid the tourist traps. We would definitely recommend this property (especially for young families) as a safe and simple holiday.
Thanks so much for your lovely review! It was a real pleasure having you aas our guests! Best regards to all of you! Iris.
Excellent holiday venue for a group particularly if you have young children
Iris ,our host had thought of everything we needed.
Thanks a lot Shaun! It was lovely having you and your family stay in our house! Best regards, Iris & Michael.
If you like charm, privacy and luxery.
This well equiped and spacious house is the perfect match for people who want to enjoy some privacy without losing the benifits of the collective facilities (swimming pool, restaurant, activities, ...) of the gîtes that are located just at 100 metres from the house. The lovely house is located in the middle of the village and it has all modern confort that a family needs to enjoy are great vacation. The large garden, the private outdoor jaccuzi and the covered terrace are perfect to relax and enjoy some privacy. We have been here already 5 or 6 times and whe always loved our stay. We are going back in August this year. The hospitality of Iris and Michiel is the cherry on the pie.
Thanks Herbert & Sofie for this lovely review! Looking forward to seeing you again in August! Iris & Michiel & Lou & Jill xx
Excellent WE en famille
Michel & Iris.
Saint Martin de Gurson
A mini-village on the edge of the Dordogne department. It’s our home. We’re on the crossing with the departments of Gironde, Lot et Garonne and Charente. This means there’s a lot to visit in this region.
St Martin counts about 500 inhabitants; of which about a 100 of them live in the centre of the village; the rest of them live near the woods, prairies and vineyards.
Although it’s a tiny place, we do have a bakery, a pub-restaurants and than there is “chez Josiane” where you can buy whatever you think of, from postcards to presents, from hen food to building gear, to cigarettes….it’s a bit sightseeing on its own!St
Everything is concentrated around our Church, built in the Middle ages: a little jewel!
At about 10 km you find all supermarkets. A nearby bakery delivers every day “at home”, very handy!
Welcome to wine country!
We're in the heart of wine country in Sain Martin de Gurson! Here you can enjoy award-winning local red, rosé and white Bergerac and Montravel wines, made at properties a short distance from your holiday home.
Just 30 minutes away are St. Emilion and Pomerol, exclusive districts of the vast Bordeaux vineyards and home to some of the finest (and at Ch. Petrus, the most expensive!) wines in the world. We can organise a tour of a vineyard on request.
Places to visit
Every day there are local markets in different places. In summer it’s worth going to an evening market whith music, local food, dancing!
15min : Montpon, little “practical” town where you find several supermarkets and on Wednesday a nice local fresh market.
15min : Sainte Foy La Grande, a « bastide » . Small nice town but comes mostly alive during the Saturday market ! classified as one of Frances nicest markets!!
30min : Saint-Emilion : A must!!! Nicely renovated wine village, known from all over the world and protected! Lots of little old narrow streets. Lots of wine boutiques (expensive!!!). Go and drink a glass of local champagne in the ruin's of the old abbey of Les Cordeliers. You buy tickets for a visit to the monolytic church at the tourist office.
30min : Bergerac. Old and new part of the city. Small city again. Markets on Wednesday and Friday. Monbazillac is close and famous for its sweet white wines. Beautiful château! Eat at La Tour des Vents in Monbazillac!!!
30min : Libourne. Worth a visit at Sunday morning!, or combine when going to St Emilion or Bordeaux. Take the little roads to go there, not the motorway!!
30min : Riberac. Friday market. Quiet town, take a quick stop when going to Aubeterre.
45min : Aubeterre: wonderful art village; has a monolitic church! Amazing!
30min : Castillon La Bataille: not very special; only at market days (Monday). In July and August they organise a big show at the site of a castle with hundreds of actors and horses....the play of the war of 100 years! A exceptional experience!
45min : Bordeaux. A mix between Antwerp, Barcelona and Parijs. A world city, easily visited by foot! You can walk here for hours and hours. Little streets, the river, shopping, terraces, antiques, ....so many things to do and to see! You cannot miss Bordeaux!!
45min : Périgueux. A bit smaller than Bordeaux. Do the walk around the old part of the city (by following the arrows). Worth a visit!!
45min : Brantôme. The Venetië of the South. The Dronne River runs through the centre, which makes it very beautiful. You can take a ride with a small boat.
30-75min : From Bergerac to Sarlat : Dordogne Valley, with Sarlat, Domme, Beynac, St Christophe, Limeuil, Lalinde, Lanquais… lots of little lovely places to visit ; with pre historical caves, castles etc….
30-75min : the Bastide tour, small middle aged villages as Eymet, Monpazier, Beaumont
1,5h : Atlantic Ocean: Arcachon, Dune de Pyla, beautiful beaches, extrordanary dune, worth a day trip!
