The sunsets from the West facing deck are utterly gorgeous and go on for hours in the summer months. The property is accessible by car, sail or power boat and seaplane and has a deep dock that accommodates a yacht or sailboat. There's power and water on the dock.

A marina is near by (but not too close:) with gas pump, restaurant and marine store --within walking distance. Every bedroom has a spectacular view. The stone fireplace services the living room on one side and goes through to the kitchen on the other. The house has wall to wall wool carpets, classy but comfortable furnishings, The house is 2 levels. And because its all cedar it smells wonderful. No smokers allowed inside these walls. No fires allowed on the property or the beach. The cookware is all clad and new. All appliances one would expect are at the ready including a cappuccino maker and popcorn maker. Brand new stove top and convection oven + clay pot cooker, gas bar-b-que on the deck and propane provided, of course. There are games for kids and adults and a video library plus all star cable package from Starchoice. We've thought of a lot from excellent wireless broadband to croquet. But your suggestions are always welcome.

Special is an understatement. A Pacific Northwest Paradise.

Ideal Vacation Spot

  • 5 of 5

The house is in a stunning location, with a gorgeous west facing back deck overlooking the harbor. The property is large enough that neighboring houses are not too close. Kitchen is very well supplied, rooms are all spacious, the mattresses were in excellent condition, and the large screen TV was fantastic for watching movies. Hosts had anticipated all our needs. We spent all week biking, kayaking, and just kicking back. A really wonderful vacation. We'd be happy to come back again anytime.

Owner's Response: We absolutely love it when our guests love our property as we do. We've had this paradise for 25+ years and still roam around in wonder on the 4.5 waterfront acres the house sits on marveling at the old growth trees, basking in the summer's 3 hour sunsets. We're happy to have shared it with you and look forward to your return. -D

Location, location, location!

  • 4 of 5

Our adult family of 6 enjoyed a week's stay at this charming, rustic panabode with beautiful views of Montague Harbour. The sun set directly in front of the deck where we enjoyed our dinners each night. It is certainly peaceful and serene. The house has a well-equipped kitchen and plenty of room for everyone. The decor is 70's time warp - which is part of the fun (remember cassette tapes?) The owner is very easy to deal with and answers your queries promptly. One minor problem is there is only one shower in the house and it is downstairs (the main living area and two bedrooms are upstairs) - so it was a bit of a scramble to have 6 adults scheduling showers. You are walking distance to the harbour where you can rent a boat, have lunch or rent a kayak. You are also walking distance to the best restaurant on the island (PILGRIMME). We enjoyed the resident heron who was on the dock each afternoon.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed yourselves! How funny are our friends. Mine line up for the jacuzzi jet tub with herbal oils in the upstairs bathroom. Ha! There is such good wireless broadband I confess I never looked at those cassettes. I'm a spotify user. I just plug my computer into those great speakers and we all start dancing . Yes, Pilgrim is great and just up the road. I'm pleased to support the local restaurants and love it that my friends do too. Happy rest of summer. And many thanks for your review.

Oceanfront house on Galiano

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying here for a week in early July 2015. We stayed in the main house, although we also had access to the small cottage on the property. We brought our boat across from the mainland and the dock at the house made it a perfect set up. My wife brought a car across on the ferry, so that we had a vehicle on the island as well. We found the house to be very warm and inviting - the wood and décor makes it feel like a cottage from another era. It was ideal for us and exactly what we were looking for. It is located in Montague Harbour and the walk to the marina for lunch or supplies was I think around 10 minutes. We had our dinghy with us and it's a 2 minute ride from dock to dock from the house to the marina. We also used the dinghy to get from the house to the nearby white shell beaches, which are awesome for kids. We loved the cottage and the location and we will definitely be back!

Spectacular home in an idyllic location

  • 5 of 5

We are from the Toronto area and we rented this beautiful waterfront home on Galiano Island for 10 days. Our son, who lives in Vancouver, was getting married at the Bodega Ridge Resort a few miles away on the island and we wanted a comfortable roomy place to stay for that time, with our family. Well, the pictures just don’t do it justice. The home itself has such character and history, all in cedar wood, it smells wonderful. The setting couldn’t have been any better with its fantastic views and panorama. From being next to Montague Harbour and seeing all the beautiful boats anchored in the bay, to the deer coming right up to you on the property, the massive trees on the property, the whole experience was wonderful. Nothing was lacking in this house, I love cooking and I was thrilled that the kitchen was so well equipped. Beds are very comfortable, plenty of linens, etc. At night, we would just sit and relax on the deck, watching the magnificent sunset, then later staring at the stars not wanting to go to bed, just soaking the whole experience in.

Donna, your home is a little piece of paradise, away from all the craziness. We definitely plan to come back – this could become our new family get together destination.

We had a wonderful island, cottage experience! Peaceful sleeps, private balcony meals, wine on the dock with sunset views, sea kayaking to neighbouring islands, bike rides to the market, morning runs to the marine park...

We rented the main house -it was a great set-up for us! We had plenty of room in the house, enjoyed eating dinner on the deck, and reading on the dock: we loved the peaceful setting. My husband and two adult sons (20 and 22) and one friend boated over from Vancouver right to the dock- I took the ferry so we were able to explore the Gulf Islands by boat -and Galiano by boat and car. The location is great-we have family on Vancouver Island so we were even able to have day visitors -some who boated right to the dock and some who came by ferry! (including my Dad and Uncle) My one son and his friend loved biking and running right from the property. It is an easy walk to Montague Harbour -which has some groceries and a cafe. I highly recommend staying here for a relaxing get away- and try the Galiano Roasting Company coffee-mmmm!

About Donna D

I was introduced to the island by close friends who live there and bought this pure cedar waterfront panabode house 22 years ago. It was built with loving care and superb taste by a lovely Dutch couple. I am the second owner. This is my soul place but because work takes me away from the island I rent it out sparingly. Everyone who has stayed has appreciated how special this place is.

Donna D purchased this house in 1990

Why Donna D chose Galiano Island

There's nothing like it in all my travels. The house is tongue and groove cedar. No interior walls, Cedar is 8 ' thick and glows. And it smells wonderful. Its like being outside and inside at the same time.

What makes this house unique

The house and the cottage sit on 4.5 acres of private, blissful waterfront. And the deck with loungers and dining faces to the west with hours of summer sunsets.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Travel is my passion. This place was fabulously beautiful and lived up to its description and my expectations. It was totally private, had a view I'll never forget, a house with every comfort, great bed and linens and walks galore starting right out the front door. Take the beach walk at low tide and easy access as grass goes right down to it. I'm definitely coming back and bringing my sister and niece next time. There's also a cottage for an extended family get together. Wonderful!
