Magnificent sweeping views of the Mediterranean from our romantic hideaway

About the property

The real Provence by the sea!

We have had many appreciative comments from our guests, some of whom have returned again and again. The atmosphere is incomparably romantic, private and 'away from it all' yet just a few minutes' drive to beaches, markets, villages and shops.

A detached cottage unseen by others in the secluded hills beyond the old and elegant seaside town and working fishing port of Bandol, located on approximately four acres of terraced slopes on a hilltop with a spectacular view of the Bay of La Ciotat, 'Port Vignoble' is beautifully restored, furnished and equipped, sleeping, ideally, anything from a couple to a family of four. It is centrally air conditioned and heated. Hidden by our pine woods off the country road that runs from Bandol to the ancient village, French doors open onto the large terrace in the front onto an aerial view of the Mediterranean across vineyards descending to the sea. We have two bedrooms, shower room, large kitchen-dining room, sitting room and laundry room. Newly centrally air-conditioned and heated.

Equally magnificent at night, it is surely 'the real Provence!

Many famous historic areas, such as Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, St Remy, Les Baux, Arles, Nimes, the Camargue, etc. are within easy reach, as is the Cote d'Azur, with St.Tropez, Cannes, Nice, St. Paul de Vence, from one to two hours' drive away. We are between the cities of Toulon (about 15 minutes' drive) and Marseille (about 25 minutes) which are both endlessly fascinating, Mediterranean cities. More immediately, we are between two of the most famous wine châteaux of Provence, where fine wines can be tasted and purchased at local prices. The towns of Bandol, Sanary-sur-Mer, La Ciotat and Cassis have wonderful restaurants as well as domains where wonderful Provençal wines can be found.

Please do have a look at the video, by clicking left on the first photo. It will speak louder than words! The video is number 25 of "pictures", or just click "video" on the menu at the top of the page. We hope to have you at our romantic hideaway.

Why The Owner chose La Cadière-d'Azur

Never had we seen anything more beautiful or romantic!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time at this house. It's hidden away in the woods, and a short path from the car leads to the most surprisingly spectacular view of the Mediterranean. We spent all our time on the terrace, resting, reading, eating and sipping delicious local wines. The house itself is pretty, furnished in rattan and bamboo and natural wood, with bright Provencal fabrics and everything one could want. The owner was helpful, friendly and responded thoroughly and quickly to all our questions and requests. What more could one ask?

Une villa très agréable et au calme près de la mer

  • 5 of 5

- le fait de trouver (et laisser disponibles pour les suivants) les consommables essentiels, ce qui évite de les transporter ou de courrir au supermarché le premier jour ;

- la confiance du propriétaire et de la personne en charge du ménage ;

- les petites routes étroites (et pentues !) idéales pour des balades en vélo jusqu'à la mer ou dans l'arrière-pays (nous conseillons d'amener une carte IGN au 25000 ou au 100 000ème pour mieux les explorer) ;

- la grande terrasse offrant en permanence des coins ombragés ou ensoleillés et un pint de vue magnifique sur les collines environnantes et le rocher de La Ciotat ;

- l'absence de télévision et de wifi qui permet de se retrouver vraiment en famille.

Bref, ce lieu nous a permis de profiter de la mer dans le calme, la beauté et avec le confort idéal pour un séjour estival ou printanier.

Amazing views from terrace - highly recommended.

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for a trip to the area to enjoy some local food and wine for a short weekend getaway. It's a very romantic house and perfect for a couple or a family with two children. The house itself is very nice, and has all the required mod-cons, but the highlight is the amazing views from the house and the large terrace. We spent all of the time we could out on the terrace and ate of our most meals there, "al fesco" as they say. One of the best views of any house we've ever rented and we'd go back just for that.

The local area is perfect for exploring. We spent some time in the nearby medieval village, Le Castellet and visited the Sunday market not too far up the road for regional farmers produce such as olives and the like. If wine is your thing (it is ours), there's Chateau Pibarnon down the road and the now internationally known Chateau Ott (made famous by it's shapely bottles and of course Paris Hilton's favorite Rose).

We would come back here and the owner was particularly accommodating, providing ideas for local activities. May come back in summer with our kids, or maybe just the two of us again and leave the kids at home!

This is a charming cottage in the woods with spectacularly beautiful views. We spent all our time on the terrace. Everything was convenient and attractive. The owner was responsive and helpful with anything we asked. The area has amazing beaches, and there are great places to visit all over Provence.

What a lovely place!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for ten days in April last year and we found it delightful. It's a small, charming cottage with two bedrooms that's very attractively furnished in bright colours and rattan, very Mediterranean feeling.

The kitchen is well equipped and the bathroom is adequate, with a shower, bidet, etc. The beauty of the place is the terrace with the view of the Mediterranean. We met some locals who told us that this house has the best view of the area.

The owners have kept it as natural as possible, so that you enter via a pathway through a wooded area that keeps it totally private from the road, and come upon a spectacular sweeping view of the Mediterranean. We spent almost the entire time outside on the terrace and had all our meals there, even though, being April, it was sometimes a bit cool. We imagine it is wonderful when the weather is very hot, as it seems to be cooler there than in the villages and towns or in the valley.

We toured a bit, and came across some of the most gorgeous sites we've ever seen--the Route des Cretes between La Ciotat and Cassis, and the Grand Canyon du Verdon, about two hours' drive north through some of the most charming villages and countryside. Thoroughly recommended for young and old!

Car: recommended

The attractions are almost endless. Here are some of our favourites. Le Castellet, a mediaeval walled ‘village perche’ famous throughout France, should not be missed. A bit crowded on weekends. Many mediaeval and 16th century (and later) houses, some with fascinating doorways--also in La Cadière—the chateau, an 11th century church, breathtaking views, etc. A particularly spectacular drive, quite near-by, is the Route des Cretes, which starts in La Ciotat and comes out in Cassis (or the other way round). There are colossal views and the highest cliffs over the entire Mediterranean.

Be sure to see the Roman antiquities and ancient architecture in Aix-en-Provence, Arles, Nîmes, Avignon, etc. Haute Provence is magnificent, around Manosque, as is the Lubéron area around Cavaillon and Avignon. St Rémy, where Van Gogh worked and was in asylum, and Les Baux are world famous. All are a day's trip.

There are wonderful Romanesque abbeys in the Manosque-Sisteron area: Le Thoronet, Ganagobie, St Donat, Salagon, etc. Ménerbes (“A Year in Provence”) area is also lovely. Carpentras is very famous. Etc, etc. Pompeii-like town of Glanum near St Rémy, which, with Les Baux, is a must. Martigues ('Venice of Provence') and the Camargue, with wild horses, bulls and flamingos, both west of Marseille, are also unmissable.

The islands off Hyeres are world-famous: Porquerolles, Port-Cros and L'Isle du Levant, one with National Park, scuba diving, etc.

We are especially fond of the Grand Canyon du Verdon in Les-Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, a drive which takes you through some very pretty villages, e.g. Bargemon, on the way. That’s about two hours’ drive.

Recreation: Wind surfing and sailing abound: Bandol, Sanary, Toulon, etc. Aqualand in St Cyr near Autoroute entrance, big water sports place with water slides. We understand that it is possible to book ahead on the internet to save long queues/waiting times. O.K. Corral in Le Camp du Castellet, reached via Le Brulat or Le Beausset on the old Route Nationale to Marseille is a big amusement park with a wild west theme. Circuit Paul Ricard--famous motor racing track, same area. Tennis clubs in Le Castellet, Le Plan du Castellet and Bandol. Jardin Exotique in Bandol is a zoo. Antique car museum in same area. See Michelin Green Guide for attractions around Toulon. Interesting old forts, e.g. le Mont Faron, which has a zoo and a museum of the occupation of Provence during World War II. Maritime museum on the sea facing La Seyne.
