I have stayed in hotels and self catering flats and houses all over Devon and including Plymouth specifically over the years. I grew up in West Hoe, on the right as you look out of the windows of these flats. I have fond memories, particularly of the Hoe and the waterfront. Tinside, Pebble Beach, Rusty Anchor, Boys Pool & Girls Pool. This venue is by far the best I have had the pleasure to stay in. Probably because of the memories it provokes. In any case, I arrived, parked the car and except for visiting the Supermarkets and my Family close by, I didn't need to use my car. Everything is on hand. Beach, Barbican, Town Centre, Restaurants, bars and clubs if required. Even Takeaways can deliver. If you have a view of Plymouth Sound, then that's your Television. No need for media. I find it memorising. If an event is on the Hoe, then sadly you suffer the noise!
Regards the accommodation. Excellent. However, I am a big man and I was scared to sit on the chairs, I think my weight broke an armchair that was the only high seated apparatus. I mention this as I have had 2 hip replacements and have issue with my back. The seating is far too low. The TV was huge and I want one, but I couldn't relax i the sitting/dining room for fear of breaking the seats. The sofa is far too low for me but an average size family I'm sure would be very comfortable indeed. Sadly, The bed broke under me on our last night. I might get self conscious because of this but I was on my own and sadly it gave way. I feel that although a very modern decor and in vogue furnishings, the flat was envisaged as the average family.
A must mention is the kitchen. Fridge Freezer, Washing Machine/Tumble Dryer Combi, Dish Washer. Fantastic. We needn't have brought so much clothing with us had we appreciated the facilities available.
The main thing to bring to attention though is the property itself. If you are elderly, have a form of disability or in general unfit, then you will be fitter but the end of your stay. There isn't a lift and carrying luggage and foodstuffs to the top of the house was heavy going. I do suffer from mobility issues and this was problematic for me. If you are booking this venue, then please ensure that you enquire re accessibility. It is not user friendly. Luckily I had an 11 and 13 yr old to carry things for me.
I final word for Hayley. She was very accommodating and nothing was a problem.
I personally can't wait for the rest of the rooms to be refurbished. I have no hesitation in wanting to go back at all. I just fear the costs will be prevent me from doing so. If the lift gets installed, then this venue is worth considering for your self catering stay in Plymouth.
