The Barsotti family begin vacationing at Spinning Wheel well before 1982. In 1982 when presented with the opportunity to purchase Spinning Wheel, there was no hesitation. Because of their love for the area they crafted a place where others could come and vacation as well. In 2013 Dharma and Eliote took over the property and are now the owners of Spinning Wheel Yosemite. Spinning Wheel Yosemite experienced a big forest fire in 2013 and as a result we had to rebuild this home. It's now a brand new vacation home with all the amenities of modern living while still in a beautiful forest environment.
Dharma Barsotti & Eliote Durham purchased this house in 1982
Unlike many other vacation properties in the area Spinning Wheel Yosemite offers a very private experience, being in the middle of national forest with no other neighbors for several miles. Each Home (there are 5 in total) is located far enough away from the other where you can feel both connected (if you are renting multiple properties) or private (if you are using one house). Many people come and enjoy staying on the property so much (hiking, BBQing, swimming, lounging by the river and pool, etc...) that they are happy to stay right here. And yes Spinning Wheel Yosemite is just a short drive to the Western entrance to Yosemite making it the perfect getaway just outside of the park.
The middle fork of the Tuolumne River runs through the property and holds a special place in our hearts. In the summer it provides a wonderful place to lounge and beat the summer heat. Not to mention the great fishing! And we are very secluded so no crowds or noise from the outside world
The homes have been individually crafted up to the last detail. Stones were hand selected and placed on many of the cabins and each one has a story. Much of the art within the cabins and on the property is made by one of the Barsotti's. Which helps to make Spinning Wheel Yosemite feel like a comfortable "home away from home" get away.
How can we not write a review for this place! It was amazing and we are planning to come back. Our kids (5 and 2) call the River House the Bear House due to the wooden bear statues everywhere, which they loved. My wife says the best part of our Yosemite trip was staying at the River House. This house has it all.... lots of space, stunning property, quiet and peaceful and of course the peacock! Patrick the caretaker of the site was helpful with getting our pilot light started and making sure the hot tub was heated.
We stayed in the River House with a party of 7. (Beware, advertised price of River House is only for 2 people, I mistakenly thought it was for 8 people since it listed it slept 8 - additional price of almost $500.00 was needed for 5 extra people in our party)
We had 2 adults, 4 teenagers (18 & 20 year olds) and a 13 year old. We all enjoyed the property, the hosts, the animals and the location. We arrived around 3pm and were pleased to find the location very close to rainbow falls and immediately put on our suits to go do some cliff jumping - Enjoyed by all 7 of us!!
Patrick was great to talk to and set up a campfire one evening complete with guitar music and singing.
We stayed at the River House in April. We were very pleased with our experience. It was wonderful to sit on the porch and listen to the river rushing by. Yosemite National Park was what went on vacation for but we chose to spent several days on the property because it was so relaxing. Peter, Deb, and Tony were all very helpful during our stay. Our favorite dining experiences were The Iron Door Saloon in Groveland and Kate's Teahouse in Columbia. We enjoyed daily visits from the beautiful peacock that lives on the property.
We can't say enough positive things about our stay at the River House. Our two young children had a great time exploring the river, playing in the play area, using the hot tub, looking for Allen the peacock, roasting mash mellows, and searching for newts. The house was perfect for our family of four. Tony was beyond helpful with anything we needed. Deb and Peter were helpful with suggestions of things to do in the area. Renting bikes in yosemite and visiting Columbia were highlights. We look forward to coming back in the summer to enjoy the warm river and pool. Thanks again for a great stay!
We loved our stay! Tuolomne Riverfront Hosue is peaceful and quiet. It was a great place to retire to after an adventurous day at Yosemite National Park. We won't forget the lovely grounds, pool, hot tub, and Alan the peacock! Thanks for having us and we will sure be back again.
We recently were pleased to stay at "The Cottage" at the Spinning Wheel compound. For the three nights we were there, we were able to relax, cook our own meals on the BBQ and enjoy the pool and spa. After a long day of exploring Yosemite and all its beauty (and crowds), it was very nice to drive back to our "home" at the Spinning Wheel, enjoy a glass of wine and get recharged for the next day. Peter and Deb welcomed us as family and offered a few tips on exploring the area and Yosemite. "The Cottage" is a small one room facility with a detached bathroom building, but it has everything that two people need for a comfortable, relaxing stay. The grounds are well landscaped and adorned with many wood carvings, mostly done by Peter's son Matt. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely try to stay there again when we return to the area.
