Wonderful Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We arrived the same day in two separate groups of four, each coming from different locations in the USA mainland. We were excited to see our see lodgings for the next nine days and our hidden paradise did not disappoint. The kids of our group, ages 12, 16, and 18 were delighted, as were the adults, with the beautiful view and lovely open Bali style house. There was everything we needed to have a great time and I think we used them all. There were kayaks for the trip to China man's Hat, boogie boards for the beach which were well used, plenty of beach towels, lots of games for our down time, the outdoor grill (which we used daily), and all possible amenities (including the hammock).

We stayed busy enjoying all the island had to offer by way of entertainment, but really loved our family time together at this beautiful house. The evenings spent on the lanai enjoying the incredible view were the best. We enjoyed the location also as it was central to everything in order to get there quickly (Waikiki, the north shore, Polynesian Cultural Center, and wonderful beaches), but not so very "touristy." If you want the tourist scene and do not plan to have a rental car, you might want to reconsider as this is not in the main traffic area.

You will need to be aware that rain comes frequently (lasting about 2 minutes at a time about 3 x a day) and you might need to close the open doors. We loved the breezes from the ocean and the open feel of the house. Also be aware that there could be mosquitoes, so the netting over the bed does help if that happens. Our daughter and grandson got bitten on the first night, but they were the only ones out of the eight in our party. Guess they were particularly tasty; however, they used the netting and no more bites. The rest of our party did not use the netting and no problems.

In summary, we would go there again in a heartbeat. The caretaker was very responsive and lives on the property. Loved our stay.

Our stay at Happy Haole Hale was a wonderful vacation experience that we will treasure forever.

The house was very charming, well maintained and appointed. It was great for our group of eight, with plenty of private space for all and a wonderful full kitchen, living and dining room for eating in together. There were plenty of bath and beach towels for everyone. If we had any issues, Shelby was always available by phone or text messages to answer any questions.

There were two kayaks that we used to go to the secret beach. We saw quite few turtles on the way there; what an great experience to see them swimming in their natural environment!

The property is beautiful and takes full advantage of the ocean view. We were starting every day by drinking coffee on the porch and enjoying the mesmerizing view that we couldn’t get enough of. Simply breathtaking! The hammock on in the gazebo was additional great thing of many this house offers.

We would highly recommend this place for anyone who is staying in Kaneohe.

Thank you for allowing us to create wonderful memories!!!!

The right choice

  • 5 of 5

We loved Happy Haole. Not only a beautiful and accommodating home, but a perfect location on the island. Away from the congestion on Waikiki and a perfect view of Kaneohe Bay, Chinaman's Hat and the Ko'olau mountains. The open floor plan and the breeze off the ocean was perfect. We can't say enough good things about our 7 day stay and the owner Shelby was terrific. I did a lot of research and we drove by many of the homes we were considering and we are so happy we chose this home at this location. You will not be disappointed. No one in our party of eight were. Enjoy your stay. Brent

My husband and I stayed here during our wedding week and it was truly breathtaking. This house is fully equipped with everything you may need - a really awesome fridge, coffee maker, dishwasher, washer + dryer, including the little things like trash bags, dish soap, laundry soap, board games, DVDs, two two-man kayaks, EVERYTHING! We seriously NEVER wanted to leave. We kayaked every morning and relaxed in the hammock every evening and watched the sun go down. I had a hard time sleeping in because I was so excited to see the sunrise from the master bedroom every morning. The house is also only a 5 minute drive from Kualoa ranch (which was also our wedding venue). Happy Haole Hale is such a unique and lovely place- so relaxing and wonderful with such intricate and awesome architecture and breathtaking views you will really never want to leave. I definitely recommend this place!

Fantastic Property, Great Views

  • 5 of 5

My party of 4 stayed for a week after staying a week in Waikiki. All the reviews ring true. Great property, tucked away, quiet, with a fantastic view. I was surprised when I arrived to see the view was 10x better than the photos could even capture(and I was very impressed with the photos).

ABOUT THE HOUSE: The Bali style is charming with plenty of beds and space to spread out. Keep in mind that it's an open air style home, there is no AC but plenty of portable fans if you need them. Opening all of the doors and sliders in the home is impressive as was done often. That being said, with open air comes the bugs. The house is on a bay that can have stagnant water so watch out for mosquitoes. Mosquito spray was available and used, plus each bed has a mosquito net(they are not for decoration). If you don't want to deal with the bugs just close the doors earlier in the day.

THE VIEW: It's spectacular and makes this house a real gem. Chinaman's Hat island has had a special place in my heart for over 13 years and to see it everyday put a smile on my face. My favorite part of the trip was spending the glorious sunny mornings on the back deck having fresh Kona coffee. The amount of tropical plants and the landscaping of the property gives it a very jungle/Hawaiian feel.

THE AREA: Waikane has the old Hawaii feel with little tourism compared to other parts of the island. It's laid back and real. There is a small market near the home but most amenities will require about a 10 minute drive. The big upside for me in the area was the proximity to Chinaman's Hat. A nice little tip is when you drive into Kualoa Park, at the little roundabout/rotary take a right onto the gravel road and follow it back to Secret Island, which is actually a beach. If you look up Secret Island online it will have you believe it's a private piece of property owned by Kualoa Ranch, it's not, it's completely public and hardly anyone knows about. Fantastic little beach with shade close to the sand and an unbelievable view.

BOTTOM LINE: If you're considering stay here just do it. Shelby was delightful and quick to answer any questions. Bob was always on hand to help out with anything. One night we ran out of propane while grilling, I called Shelby, who then had Bob at the grill with a fresh propane tank in under 10 minutes.

In my travels I'm not one to stay at the same place twice but this home sure is tempting for the next time around.

Owner's Response: Aloha we are glad you decided to stay with us. Hawaii is indeed a tropical lush place. You came during a rather rainy/wet season. This property does not usually have mosquitos. Its not a reacuring thing. Yes the nets over the beds are part or the decor. We would love to have you back. We thank you for taking the time to leave comments.

Relaxing and Breathtaking!!!

  • 5 of 5

I am not sure what I can say that hasn't been said before. We stayed for 5 nights and very easily could have stayed for many more (or even just moved in) as this house is just beautiful! The pictures are exactly what you get, plus!!!! Shelby and her family live on site and are fantastic! They will help with anything you need (of course everything you need in is in the house) but can definitely give you great advise on things to do. The beds are comfortable and the accommodations were more than enough for our extended family of 4 adults and 2 teenagers. The views are just gorgeous, with a beautiful sunrise every morning! The kids loved the local pets (geckos) that would come out on the walls in the evenings. Traveling around the island was very easy from this home. Even though this was our first trip to Hawaii and we wanted to explore, it was very difficult to leave this home as it is so relaxing. We enjoyed the Kayaking in the bay with the kayaks available to us. WE DEFINITELY RECOMMEND TO ANYONE LOOKING NOT TO LOOK ANY FURTHER AS YOU WILL NOT FIND A MORE BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO ENJOY YOUR VACATION!!!! Thank you again Shelby for allowing us to stay in your home and treating us so well! We definitely will stay at the Happy Haole Hale again when we return

Minutes up the road is Ko'olau Ranch. This 4000 acre working ranch stretches deep into the majestic mountains and valleys you imagine in Hawaii. Take a tour of the movie sites: Jurassic Park, Mighty Joe Young, etc. Have a blast on their ATV rides or enjoy a scenic horseback ride. Great fun for all. Kailua Beach is about 30-35 min away. It is 3 miles long with white sand and turquoise water. Watch the playful turtles. Watch dramatic kite boarding and windsurfing or go for a fun kayak ride. Also 20 min down the road is the Polynesian Cultural Center.
