Peaceful with GREAT VIEWS ACROSS THE WATER! Enjoy the beauty of nature on the Wisconsin River and Lake Wisconsin in this rustic, yet cozy river/lake cottage. Relax with friends or family in the hot tub after a day canoeing or kayaking around the sandy tree-covered islands. Watch crimson sunsets from your bed, from the 16'x 25' deck, or under a shady grove of maple trees at water's edge. Whether it's the knotty pine walls of the livingroom and kitchen or the view of the water from bed in the main bedroom you’ll always feel cozy and welcome at Quietwater Cottage. After a fun day of excitement relax in our outdoor hot tub and sauna! You'll enjoy yourselves so much you'll be anxious to come for another visit!

Quietwater Cottage is conveniently located on the Lake Wisconsin/Wisconsin River waterfront midway between Madison and the Wisconsin Dells, just 1.5 hours from Milwaukee, 3 hours from downtown Chicago, and 2 hrs from Dubuque. This cottage is located next door to the Island View Hideaway and is operated by the same owners.

SPRING, SUMMER, and FALL Adventures! Green trees, sunny sand-bars, and a lazy river await you. Tucked off the main channel the cottage has the best of both worlds…easy assess to the big water, a great view of the water and sunsets, but little boat traffic. Because of our shallow waterfront location, the choice is yours, launch your boat at one of 3 nearby boat launchs and head left for Lake Wisconsin or go right for the Wisconsin River. You’ve got it all right here! You can launch your boat daily and spend an exciting day on the open water of the lake (too shallow to get a boat of any size into our channel but you can park your trailer in front at the end of the day) or a quiet day exploring the Dells-like bluffs and the nearby islands, coves, and backwaters in your canoe or kayak. The shallow water in front is perfect for kayaks and canoes.

Enjoy shallow water fishing from the pier or while wading or head out in a boat to hit several of the best local fishing spots all within 5 minutes of the cottage: The Narrows, Fockes Bluffs, and Camp Rest Park. Good fishing for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, White Bass, Catfish, Largemouth, Crappie and more.

The cottage has a green lawn for yard games or for kids to run around in, plus just a block away is a park with playground equipment and wading beach, perfect for small children and dogs. Tennis and basketball courts are just a mile up the road. Bike riding opportunities on winding country roads in the area are fantastic. Up for a challenge? Circle Lake Wisconsin on your bike, it's about a 50-60 mile trip with a free ferryboat crossing as a highlight!

This two bedroom, one bathroom house has a small but efficient kitchen and an open layout. The kitchen is equipped with all you’ll need to prepare any meal you like…or grill out on waterside deck on the gas grill! Feeling lazy? Kick back and enjoy the 37” flat screen LCD HDTV or enjoy the hot tub which seats up to six people, so...relax, sip a drink, even surf the web, and watch the river go by!

Beautiful views out the large living room windows and across the 16’x25’ deck look onto green, sandy islands and the undeveloped distant shores of the Wisconsin River as it opens up into Lake Wisconsin.

FALL & WINTER FUN! After the summer crowds leave you’ll find unique beauty and tranquility on the river. Tucked in among the surrounding bluffs and hillsides you’ll find gorgeous fall colors and dazzling winter scenery. Hundreds of wooded acres across the street are home to the Red Bellied Woodpecker, Wild Turkey, and White Tailed Deer, while the ever-changing river offers views of Sandhill Cranes, Bald Eagles, Beaver, and Muskrat. Scenic drives in all directions make interesting day trips more fun! Many nearby day-trip possibilities including the Wollensheim Winery, Wisconsin Dells, Devil's Lake State Park, Baraboo Circus World Museum, and so much more. Nearby ski hills include Cascade Mountain (15 min) and Devilshead Lodge (30 min).

So much to see and so much to do! Relaxing!

About Dave Weber

I grew up and still live in Highland Park, IL and went to college in Wisconsin (UW-Eau Claire). We love to camp and fish and canoe and bike and hike! This area is perfect for that. Cheryl would only let me but a cottage to enjoy this area where I've fished my whole life if we could find a way to help it pay it's way. So we started renting it as a vacation home on VRBO and Homeaway and the rest is history. We love coming up and staying at our cottages (we also own a larger cottage next door, called Island View Hideaway)!

Dave Weber purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Dave Weber chose Lake Wisconsin

I have fished and enjoyed this beautiful area since I was a boy. We purchased this cottage a year after we bought Island View next door to enjoy and share with others who want great memories. It is next door to our other cottage, Island View Hideaway, which is larger but equally nice.

What makes this cottage unique

The knotty pine walls in the living room of this cottage with the great views of the water and islands sold us on this wonderful getaway! I built a big deck on the water side to better enjoy the great view of the water. It's close to so many fun things to do. We provide a canoe and rowboat for our guests and shallow water in front make it easy to get out on the water and enjoy the beauty of the river and sandy islands.

Beautiful view, very clean and comfortable. Just as described and more beautiful than the pictures.

We just had a wonderful family vacation at Quietwater. Cottage was very clean and comfortable. The view of the river is so peaceful and the bird watching provides ample entertainment. We enjoyed taking canoe rides, splashing around in the river and roasting marshmallows. Thank you for the bottle of wine! Such a nice welcome! We appreciate you sharing the cottage with us. We look forward to visiting again next year. We loved Quietwater.

Perfect ending

  • 5 of 5

The description on line was to the t. The cottage had practically everything you needed. The senery was beautiful and relaxing. The boys had a blast with having the boats for use when ever they wanted. We hope to come back again. Only thing missing was a clothes washer, that is the only thing keeping it from being perfectly flawless. Thank you for sharing your piece of tranquility.

Owner's Response: Lisa, Thanks for being our very first guests at Quietwater! Glad you enjoyed it, I could tell the boys would when I saw them bound out of the car and run for the waterfront. They caught a turtle within no time! I hope you found the little laundromat just four miles up the road in the tiny hamlet of Harmony Grove. It's across the street from the Pizza Parlor. Looking forward to you being our guest again. -Dave

Peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

We are just returning from our trip to Lake Wisconsin and are very sad to leave. Dave's property was extremely well stocked and comfortable. We especially loved watching the birds at the feeder while soaking in the hot tub. We were also impressed with the DVD collection at the house, even though we were mostly outside during our visit. The house is well located and definitely feels like home away from home.

Filthy and disgusting

  • 1 of 5

The property would be nice if it were not so neglected. The carpet, walls and ceilings as well as the bedding is stained and dirty. Mold in the shower, cobwebs and dead bugs in the corners and all around the ceiling. Even the welcoming notebook on the table had stains all over it. I talked to the property manager, the cleaning woman and the owner about it but all just wanted to argue that it was clean enough. The owner Dave told me if I wanted a clean room I should get a hotel. We booked it for a week but left the first morning.

Owner's Response: Quietwater is thoroughly cleaned after each guest. We are proud that 55 out of 56 past reviewers rated Quietwater at 5-stars, both before and after this guest’s 12-hour stay, and many of our reviewers mention how clean the cottage is in their reviews. On the day of check-in I called this guest while he was driving up to Wisconsin and invited him and his wife to check-in early. During this phone call I noticed they didn’t sound happy, perhaps they’d been arguing. I suspect they weren’t in agreement to stay at a rustic lake cottage and after one night tried to get out of their 8-day reservation. They arrived in the evening then drove off first thing in the morning phoning to demand a full refund, threatening to “ruin me” with a bad review. Despite refunding most of their rent in good faith (and under no obligation to do so) the guest still wrote a mostly false review. He lied about my brief conversation in which he barely let me talk and also about his discussions with our staff when they called him on the phone after he left the cottage. Our cottage is a clean and comfortable rustic lake cottage and is not accurately described by this reviewer. -Dave

Comfortable & cozy vacation get away

  • 4 of 5

Great vacation getaway that felt miles away from Madison. Loved that there was music on in the home to greet us upon our arrival. Relaxing atmosphere with a great view. The amenities, including the dock and the hammock, were designed to help you unwind and stay unwound. Home was the perfect size for a family of 2 & our dog. A peaceful location away from many more populated vacationing areas on the lake. A true home-away-from-home experience! Be sure to sign the guest book while you are there.
