Private Mountain Pond Cabin

Bedrooms 1
Space 750 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

1 bathroom, 1 bedroom and loft. sleeps 4 comfortably.

Private, private private. Get away from the busy world we all live in. I will be opening my cabin in late May for rentals from June to November. Eden is a wonderful place to take in the Vermont summer or fall. It is a very peaceful and quiet spot that is perfect for someone who desires a serene retreat. The cabin faces west on the pond and has a screened porch overlooking the pond. This is a comfortable but simple cabin that does not have electricity but has propane lights, gas fridge, stove, hot water heater and full bathroom. Open design on lower level with kitchen, living room dining area and one bedroom and bathroom. Also has a loft for additional sleeping area. 400 feet of frontage on the pond with swimming area with canoe and dock. You can even swim au natural if you want ! This is an ideal spot for a quiet get away with hiking and biking trails nearby and many opportunities for canoeing and fishing. 40 minutes north of Stowe, Vt.The whole area is a recreational paradise: There are many opportunites within a few miles for biking, hiking, boating, fishing and most any other recreational activity one might want. There is a new indoor water park at Jay peak nearby! The camp is a beautiful place for the fall foliage too in Vermont and has a wood stove for those crisp fall days. Weekly rate is $600. The camp is available for rent from June through October .The daily rate for stays shorter than a week is $100. I also charge a refundable $75 cleaning fee.

Dogs will be considered. Let’s discuss yours. Because the pond is private and extremely quiet, it is important for any potential renters to understand that they must keep a low profile here so as not to disturb the unique nature of this spot.

About Edward Blanchard

My family and I built this cabin in 1989 to have a place to spend time together in all seasons. It has been a wonderful place to have Thanksgiving, 4th of July celebrations, foliage and other times.

Edward Blanchard purchased this cabin in 1989

Why Edward Blanchard chose Eden

We grew up in Vermont but left the state many years ago. This allowed us to have a place in Vermont again.

What makes this cabin unique

It is so private and we always liked being off the grid, even more important in todays world.

Quite, peaceful place away from it all!

  • 5 of 5

This camp on Gut Pond in Eden VT was exactly what we were looking for. All the comforts of home but no electricity - so you can become "unplugged" from our crazy plugged-in world (all appliances run on propane including a fridge with freezer and wall lamps which you light with a match and made the place very cozy and a real step back in time). So you come here to enjoy the lake and become connected with nature -- the beavers, the loons and the chipmunks! We learned so much about these amazing creatures. Beavers mate for life and are very territorial and will smack their flat tails when you come near! (so beware - there are two beaver homes on the other side of the pond). The loons have four distinct calls and we heard them all. Magical. There is a canoe and plenty of tubes for the whole family with a dock a short distance from the camp. The surrounding area is wonderful to explore and the Long Trail is only 12 minutes by car and is a must - try and get to the summit as the view is spectacular (2.8 miles and about 3 hours up for the average non-regular hiker). We will be back next summer!

A lovely camp to get recharged

  • 5 of 5

After two weeks at Eden East, I could only emerge with a tranquil sense of unity with the natural world. Perched over the quiet and pristine Gut Pond, Mr. Blanchard’s beloved family camp is spacious and comfortable. Clearly, much care and craft has gone into the consideration of creature comfort – from the lights, stove, water heater, to the refrigerator – all fueled by propane. On cool days, the camp was cozy warmed up by either the sunshine streaming through the big windows or the wood-burning stove equipped with ample dry firewood. On hot days, the screened windows and porch offered a nice cross breeze, with the wind chime gently swaying. Whether reading or day-dreaming, I was often accompanied by the loons, beavers, and the dragon flies, and could easily drift from the cabin to the porch or from the deck to the dock equipped with a canoe next to the pond. While in the beautiful Northeast Kingdom, I’ve also enjoyed a few good day-hikes (e.g., Eagle Rock in the Wheeler Mountain) within easy reach and an excellent sculling camp at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center nearby. Before I forget, I should note that the water is surely tasty at this camp.

I surely had a lovely time here. Thank you, Mr. Blanchard, for sharing your piece of the Eden!

Unplugged Heaven

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful camp on a very quiet pond and was just what we needed. The cabin was perfect with no electricity or distractions. The camp was warmer than we expected, and is very tight; even on cold nights, the camp kept its heat. We enjoyed watching the beavers at dusk every day and we also saw a turkey, a raccoon, a chipmunk, ravens, and woodpeckers, but alas, no loons as they were already headed south. Our dog loved swimming in the pond, chasing the ball in the yard, and going on quiet walks. We thoroughly enjoyed our unplugged time there, and are looking forward to a return visit.

A slice of heaven!!

  • 5 of 5

This place was literally everything my boyfriend and i were looking for. being on the water was so beautiful at everytime of the day. So private we heard maybe one car a day. Fishing from the canoe or the dock! Eating meals on the porch, we even caught an awesome lightening show from the porch one morning. Ed is always there to get a hold of if you need him.. However, you never will! We left half of what we brought, in the car. Including phones! Everything you need and more is already there, just bring food and you wont have to leave at all. Its been a month and we are already talking about when to go back!!!

Cue "Box of Rain" by Greatful Dead

  • 5 of 5

I left Eden a little less than two weeks ago but find myself very much still there. Being ushered out of the chaos and claustrophobia of the city and into Mr. Blanchard's incandescently serene compound was as close to a religious experience as that initial bite of a Shake Shack burger or listening to The Stones for the first time. The cabin is the epitome of cozy and full of amenities. The pond is perfect for fishing, swimming and canoeing and the porch provides the perfect spot for reading, painting, singing, sunbathing, stargazing, dining and nauseating amounts of blissful merriment. Following the general consensus of all reviewers below and the adorable comments left in the vacation journals found inside the cabin; my partner and I can't wait to get back. Thanks for sharing all that beautiful seclusion with us!

Rustic and Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I came for a long weekend away from it all, and that's what we got. Once we got the hang of the gas lights, the place was nice and cozy at night, even with no other lights in sight. The view over the secluded and all but uninhabited Gut Pond was unbeatable. I loved waking up early to watch the fog burn off it as the sun slowly lit up the trees. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook full meals, as well as a great little coffee percolator. We left during the day to hike and see the sights (Mount Mansfield was 45 minutes away) and even just driving through the countryside was worthwhile. A beautiful, peaceful place in a beautiful, peaceful part of the country.
