Why Jim Baldwin chose Vermont

I grew up in the area and still have family and many friends in Vermont. When the possibility arose of having a home here, it just seemed like the right thing.

What makes this cottage unique

Whenever someone says to me, 'Imagine that you are in your special spot, a place where you feel safe and comfortable, and where you feel a profound sense of belonging,' I think of the deck of this cottage. The peace that comes from staying here lasts me for weeks.

Great wooded retreat.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a weekend at this great place with another couple during the coldest days of the winter, which ironically occurred in March. We planned to spend most of the weekend skiing, but ended up hanging out by the cozy wood stove and enjoyed the local food. The owner, Jim was super helpful throughout the reservation process and had an excellent recommendation for dinner. The house is located in a great area with winding rivers, plenty of views, and quick access to Mount Snow. We ate at the Williamsville Eatery upon Jim's recommendation and were not disappointed. It had excellent food, helpful waitstaff, and a great atmosphere. I would return to this place in a heartbeat.

A slice of heaven in Vermont

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing experience. I was looking for technology detox and to relax after the first four months of middle school teaching and I got even more than I expected. The owner was such a pleasure to deal with and the accommodations were cozy and inviting. The house is set away in the woods, but with an amazing backyard view of the mountains. It is very accessible to all the necessities - homemade food, hiking trails, and clean air. The house had two woodburning stoves - one in the dowsnstairs bedroom, and one upstairs in the living area. I loved the loft bed and the skylight windows that either showed off the amazing night sky or got snow covered after a typical Vermont storm. The driveway was plowed for us without having to make a call and the highways are always cleared. Take advantage of all the surrounding towns with the antique stores, homemade pies, and the snowshoeing trails. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking to just get away!

A great place to stay in VT

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful experience here. The views of the mountains are gorgeous and the property is well-maintained and spacious. It has all of the charm and coziness of a log cabin but all the amenities that make winter vacation comfortable. The owner was friendly and helpful. We look forward to visiting again!

Comfortable, quiet and secluded

  • 4 of 5

Jim provided detailed instructions on the property and excellent suggestions on the area which enhanced our stay.

We found the house to be rustic but comfortable for the two of us.

Newfane is well located for enjoying all that southern Vermont has to offer. We enjoyed the area restaurants, farm stands, Brattleboro shopping and swimming at Indian love call.
