Top notch place to stay if you want a luxury apartment with a parking space that means you don’t have to drive once you’ve arrived. Right in town but with views. Best of all worlds.
This apartment has stunning views over Ambleside. It proved an excellent base to explore the Lakes being so close to shops and transport links.

All we needed in a great location
The apartment was clean, modern and very well equipped. Bit of a hill to climb up from the town but the views are the prize. Parking was easy. Nice swimming pool and spa with steam room and Sauna. Recommended.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post a review. Yes the hill is a bit steep but the views, as you say are worth it. The walk up the steps or via the road can seem a bit longer but it is a little less steep. Glad you enjoyed the pool etc - its nice to have it there just in case of the weather!
We had a wonderful stay in this property. The apartment was in a super location, with lovely views over the town. It was spacious, immaculately clean and very well equipped! We were also impressed by the very tasteful decor and attention to detail with furnishings etc. We will definitely be booking again on our next visit to Ambleside!

Underhill provided us with a perfect base for our latest visit to Ambleside. The apartment was comfortable, very well equipped and tastefully furnished. Views from the lounge area were stunning, both of the town and the wider environs. Close proximity to the town was a definite advantage too! It was our second visit to the flat….. we intend to book again when we next visit the area.
This property is exceptional in every way - beautifully and tastefully appointed and decorated, spotlessly clean, comprehensively equipped, spectacular view and obliging owner. I couldn't fault it in any way and hope to bee back.
Excellent location, great view of town and fells, near shops, restaurants, buses. Comfortable bed and seating, kitchen works. Very quiet.
I had problems with Vrbo messaging communication, but this is not owner’s fault. This is a great place—my stay was two weeks, and not long enough.
Felt right at home as soon as we walked in very warm and welcoming.
Beautiful well stocked kitchen comfy lounge with amazing views and fab balcony to watch the sun set whilst enjoying a glass of wine total relaxation
Underfloor heating in bathroom with powerful shower soft fluffy white towels .
There are books board games dvd etc with a great choice of walks and maps everything you need for a great stay
The whole apartment has been done to high spec cant wait to return

Thank you for this review. I’m glad you enjoyed your short break and could make good use of the balcony. We look forward to your return.
A lovely property in an excellent location.
It was spotlessly clean and equipped with everything you could possibly need.
All the info needed about the property during our stay was clear and at hand.
We found the maps and walks books extremely helpful.
The property is also ideally placed for stunning walks, a few craft shops and eating places without having to use the car!
We would definitely recommend a stay there and will hopefully be returning next year.
Thank you Lesley

Fantastic apartment in a great location, hope to return soon!
Family of four stayed here for a week. The apartment is fantastic.
The location is great, just a short walk right into the centre of Ambleside. We've been coming to Ambleside for 20 yrs and this has been by far the best place we've stayed. The views from the balcony are stunning and it was lovely to be able to come back with the kids, get them into bed and we could sit with a drink and look at the views.
Would highly recommend this place and we hope to return very soon.
Thank you to the owners that made the stay extra special with complimentary flowers and bottle of wine, nice touch.

Thank you so much for this lovely review and so glad the whole family enjoyed the stay. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future
It’s not often you stay somewhere where you can find no faults with the accommodation, location, and weather, but this past week we managed to do just that. Yes, we were probably lucky with the weather being so exceptional but you take what you get right. The apartment is absolutely immaculate and the owners have left no stone unturned in making sure you have everything you need for a perfect vacation. It’s comfortable, spacious, has fantastic views over the town and the fells, and is located conveniently to reach so many areas of the county. We had an amazing week and will definitely be back again in the future. Thank you Lesley!

Wow. Thank you so much for your lovely review! We always try our best to make our guests as comfortable and welcome as possible ! You did have good weather but as the locals say “- there’s no bad weather in The Lakes - just the wrong clothes! “ I’m glad you liked the location being so central and were able to enjoy the views from the balcony. We look forward to welcoming you back. Thank you for choosing Underhill.
We having been traveling throughout the UK for 6 months, staying at many places, and this apartment was one of our favorites! The apartment has an amazing view that never gets old, reserved parking, a great kitchen and lounge, and a great shower. The bed was one of the most comfortable we've slept in these many months. The balcony is a wonderful bonus. Ambleside is a very pleasant town to explore and call 'home'. It is also ideally situated. Keswick is too far north, Kendal too far south, and Windermere too frenetic. Ambleside is just right! Communication with the owner was great and we simply can't sing the praises of this apartment enough. We highly recommend it to anyone wishing to visit the Lake District.

Underhill stay
When looking at the pictures on the website the apartment looked very nice. When we got there, it looked even nicer. Such nice views from the living area and the balcony! Loved every minute of our stay, the apartment is so close to the shops, pubs and restaurants, which was very handy. The apartment was absolutely lovely. Had a bit of confusion with the parking and where we actually were when we got there, but gave lesley a call and was helped massively. Was so happy with the apartment and the area we were staying in. We will definitely be coming back. More bins are needed around the building because we could only find one big one. That's the only fault we could find, other than that, amazing. Definitely coming back for another holiday here.

Response from VrboOwner on 21 Mar, 2020
I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay. There is another bin store and it is located actually within the building so I will explain that to future guests - thanks for your comment. I am glad you rang for help with the parking and entry - it can be confusing if guests arrive after the reception is closed, but glad I could help and all was well. Look forwad to welcoming you back in the future.
There may be a better venue to stay in this area, but there's no way I would waste another second of my life trying to find it as long as Underhill is available.
It has everything you could possibly want inside the accommodation, together with a few things you didn't know you wanted until you'd stayed there. It's very much a home away from home, with a wonderful location right in the town but high enough up to feel like you are out of town whilst offering a superb panorama from the bedroom and lounge area.
We really couldn't fault it. Like any property, it has a few of its own little idiosyncrasies, which you soon get used to and we were very sad to have to leave when it came time to.
The only note of caution is that the road up to the property is steep in places, as is the short cut into town, so perhaps not suitable for anyone with mobility restrictions.
Would highly recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. As we have so many repeat guests now we do not get so many reviews. Thank you for your honesty and we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Yes the walking approach is a little steep but as you say it does mean you can enjoy the views
About the host
Hosted by Lesley Stevens
Lesley & Chris are from Holmfirth in Yorkshire. Our three children are all now adults following their own dreams, so we can now manage to spend more time traveling the world! Food and holidays are our passion - a great reason to spend time in Ambleside - so many great restaurants available without needing to drive! The flat is designed as a 'home' with quality fixtures.
Why they chose this property
We have rented this apartment many times over the past 15 years, from Susan - the previous owner, who is a very special & close friend of ours, and jumped at the chance to buy it when it became available. We have loved the area all our lives and feel central Ambleside is one of the best parts as it is easy to access most areas of the lakes whilst offering shops, pubs and great restaurants. We have continued to refurbish the property and continually improve the apartment and hope to continue sharing this luxury space with past and future guests.
What makes this property unique
Undoubtedly, the views... and light flooding in... and sitting on the balcony with a morning coffee or evening glass of wine. We love walking down to lake Windermere, the cinemas in Ambleside and enjoying the fabulous food on offer within a short walk of the apartment. To be able to go on some lovely walks without the need of going in the car first is fantastic. Hiring a motor boat on Lake Windermere for a few hours and taking a picnic is a lot of fun! There are some great walks including pubs en-route. Such as the mortal man. For the more ambitious the Fairfield Horseshoe. Walk or drive over to Skelwith Bridge and walk along the river. Or walk down to the park and then along the river. Stagshaw gardens a few yards down the road is fabulous for its rhododendrons and woodland garden Rydal water is a short walk away and one of the most beautiful views in the lakes Blackwell is one of Britain's finest Arts & Crafts historic houses. Located south of Windermere with views over the lake.
