About John Bryan

Alison and John Bryan moved to Hood River in 1993 from Berkeley, California with the intent of trying out small town life. The experiment was a complete success. 'Small town life suited us well and allowed us to raise two beautiful children and enjoy day upon day of the beautiful Hood River valley. Although we are slowing down, we still enjoy boating, snow skiing, kiteboarding, gardening and hiking minutes from the studio.

John Bryan purchased this studio in 1994

Why John Bryan chose Mt. Hood, The Gorge

Hood River and the Columbia Gorge offer some of the most unique seasonal recreation and activity of anywhere we have been in the US. Within 20 minutes of 'The Studio', you can enjoy world class hiking, mountain biking, windsurfing and kiteboarding, kayaking and glider flying. The Hood River valley's unique location sets it close to the city of Portland, Oregon, a major metro area, but also protects its unique beauty and its future with geographic location and the National Scenic Act, which limits development. Hood River and the Gorge will have that 'small town' feel for a long time to come.

What makes this studio unique

Small town means friendly people, who bend over backwards to offer you help, advice, and encouragement for whatever your travel goals might be. Small town means no traffic jams, lots of bicycle traffic, walking and local fare. Should you take the day off from windsurfing, kiteboarding or any of the numerous recreational offerings, there's always a winery to visit (5 minute walk to one) or local street parties, farmers' markets, craft fairs and plenty of nightly music and restaurants to visit.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Traveled from Texas and Louisianna. Beautiful view. The shower is wonderful! Loved the place, very open and comfortable. Had a great time exploring the area. Very beautiful. Hate to have to go back to the flatlands. Loved the winery within walking distance. Great stay and can't wait to come back.

Great Hood River get away.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at John and Allison's beautiful studio suite. Everything was very well thought out and was in pristine condition. Close to sailing and Mtn. Biking trails. John and Alison were also very welcoming. We are looking forward to a return visit next year!

Much more than a studio!

  • 5 of 5

The Studio on Post Canyon was so much more than we expected. Really at least a one bedroom plus. The bedroom area itself is larger than most studios we've stayed in. Add a full kitchen and living area plus a bathroom with the best shower we've found - and I am something of a shower connoisseur. More extras than I can list, everything was spotlessly clean.

We were in the area for a wedding during some record breaking days of heat. The air conditioning by day and cooling winds at night kept us comfortable. The view of Mt Adams from the patio brought its own comfort. Thank you for sharing this wonderful space.

Perfect getaway near Columbia Gorge and Hood River

  • 5 of 5

The Studio is clean and very comfortable. It's kitchen and bath/laundry are very well stocked. The bedroom and the combination kitchen/ living room/ dining area are spacious with plenty of room for our belongings. The studio is located on a farmette complete with free range chickens and roosters. It was great to hike during the day and then come back to a place where we could really relax. Enjoyed grilling on the patio while having a view of Mount Adams most evenings. Also enjoyed exploring the neat nearby town of Hood River. We highly recommend staying here.

Wonderful for a Long Weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for a long weekend and really enjoyed the place. It's well laid out and has everything you need for 3 nights or a longer stay. The kitchen is well appointed if you want to eat in. My husband is in love with the heated floors. No cold feet! The view of Mount Adams is beautiful. We'll definitely stay again when we come back to explore more of Hood River, the Columbia Gorge, and the Fruit Loop.

Owner's Response: We cherish our happy customers and are always looking for the next way to improve the stays at the Studio. Our reward is the great connections made and the stories of places other people live that we may visit someday. Glad you all enjoyed your visit. Please come back another time. John and Alison
