Classic family bach experience, one minute to the beach
A New Zealand classic bach designed for families, built in the 1970s, set in a fully fenced quarter acre section with beautiful trees and room to play cricket. On a back section, protected from the wind and quiet but only one minute's walk down the drive to the safe surf beach. Bring your kayaks as we are only ten minutes walk to Ohiwa Harbour which offers wonderful kayaking.
Please note it is a very comfortable bach but suits people who want to experience the bach rather than holiday home experience.
Safe for toddlers or dogs as it is fully fenced. Open plan living with two bedrooms in the bach and two more bedrooms in a recently built sleepout. Only one bathroom but cleverly designed with two showers (one outdoors) and two toilets.
Fully equipped with washing machine, microwave, highchair and portable cot. Although we ask you to bring your own linen there are plenty of duvets and blankets. Although it sleeps 9 it is really only suitable for 6 adults. The other beds are more suitable for children as they are divans.
There is a pizza oven that you can use. However you cannot use driftwood so there is a smalll supply of wood available. If you want to use it please let us know and we will send some instructions and suggestions about where to get suitable wood.
To complete the bach experience there is a range of family board games and an interesting range of books to read.
Please note there is a cleaning fee. So treat yourself as this means you do not have to do any cleaning when you leave. We just ask you leave the bach tidy with the dishes done. Special conditions: Smoking allowed outside only. Please keep dogs off the furniture.
Extras: Cleaning (Required, NZ$70.00 per stay); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/tea towels);

This was a lovely stay at an authentic NZ bach. It was super chilled and laid back. Beautiful location and the beach was at the end of the driveway. Really enjoyed our time here. Had lots of rooms to accommodate our family.
Lovely stay with our wee dog quiet and private location surrounded in lovely trees. Beds in the house are a little bit shaky other than that a tidy batch with all the essentials. Didn’t miss tv at all
Great location so near to the beach. The bach was really comfortable, with plenty of room. We loved the garden and outside space, many thanks for a lovely holiday
We loved this peaceful retreat especially being so near to our favourite beach. Ideal spot with lovely natural surroundings. Our two grandchildren loved the sleepouts when they came for the weekend. The new shower was brilliant. Outdoor shower very handy for rinsing off after being on the beach. Enjoyed sitting in the shade on comfy settee on decking. Would suit folk not looking for a modern holiday home and are happy to escape TV etc.
Really enjoyed the stay and bach was exactly as quoted.
Nice having two separate sleeping rooms out the back of the property.
Nice and close to the beach.
Highly recommended / great value
Love Ohope
The location is great, loved the batch. Everything we needed except we felt that the cleanliness of some areas was not the best. Eg some of the cooking utensils and the skirting boards. Great place for a family holiday.
My family had an incredible time. The place was very spacious, well-equipped, and private with a lot of outdoor space. We had fun with the pizza oven and spending time on the beach, which is just steps from the house. Would have stayed much longer if we could.

Super peaceful
We really enjoyed our stay at this kiwi family bach. We loved being close to the beach, exploring the shady quiet garden and cooking pizza in the outdoor oven. The location was perfect for long beach walks, bike rides and exploring Ohope's many attractions. The bach is well equipped and the beds were comfy.
Older house, a bit worn in places, needs people to be gentle with it. Ok for the price. Would go back again.

Bit disappointed,
The listing was for a old fashioned bach, which is what we were expecting, we arrived and the place smelled very musty and like there was a leak inside. The bach was very unclean inside and the gardens and trees down the ROW were also very untidy and overgrown. Im pretty sure we left it tidier than when we arrived that's for sure!!! Sorry guys if you are wanting to rent out your bach you really need to tidy it up a bit. The bach its self was very quaint and well equipped, it was nice hearing the ocean and the birds.
We loved staying at this bach. It is very homely, spacious and comfortable. Such a peaceful location with large trees attracting birdsong and fully fenced so we didn't have to worry about the small children with us. We swam every day just across the road at the beach and then popped home for a hot outside shower. We will definitely return to this little paradise
Just what we wanted. Tuis in the trees, space inside to relax, bbqs on the deck, 1 room each. Felt we were staying at a mates place not a sterile house. Will come back for surw

Unclean
Location amazing, unfortunately the lack of cleanliness overshadowed the whole experience
Definitely only expecting an old kiwi Bach, however did expect a basic level of cleanliness
Private, across the road from the most beautiful beach in NZ. The pizza oven was a hit, with great instructions. Will be back.

About the host
Hosted by Sue Werry
Hi My name is Sue and I am the eldest of four who along with our mum own the bach. I manage the bookings and cleaning, my sister does the accounts and my brothers organise the maintenance.
Why they chose this property
Our mum and dad built the bach and it is a much loved place for our family. This year we have just celebrated 50 years of our annual bach holiday. At Christmas time everyone gathers, put up the tents and spend a week or so together. This year my mum who is 94 had all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren stay for at least two nights.
What makes this property unique
1 minute walk to the beach and 10 minutes to the harbour, great for kayaking and fishing. Mum has planted trees so the section has shade from the hot midday sun and makes the section relatively private. The tuis are regular visitors. We are down a right of way and this means we are sheltered from the on-shore wind, but still have direct access to the beach; just down the right of way and across Ocean Road. The section is fully fenced so safe for children and dogs. There is a swing to entertain children, plus plenty of room for a game of cricket. We love the large deck we added ten years ago and tend to spend most of our time out on it during our family holiday.
