Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 6)

190 N. Carmel is located behind 180 N. Carmel. Originally built as a cabin on Neakhanie Mountain, this charming vintage cottage was built in the 1920's and later brought down the mountain to become part of our Family Compound. There is a master bedroom on the main level with a queen bed and a remodeled attached bathroom. The large open plan room upstairs has a king bed and two twin beds with a half bath. Please note that due to the age of the building, the stairs are more narrow and slightly steeper than usual.

The living room has an open plan with the dining room and has a river rock fireplace, WiFi and cable.

A $150 processing fee is included in the rate.

Although it sleeps 6 comfortably, it can be rented together with The Big House for larger groups of up to 14 (Please see Listing #201887 'Family Compound I'). Just steps from town and the beach, this rustic cottage is the perfect location for your next vacation.

Guests should be aware that when The Sandune pub is hosting live music, it can be heard from this house.

Finally, please be aware that although we invite dogs to join their families, they are not permitted on the furniture in order to keep the house nice for all of our guests. Failure to comply may result in the loss of the damage deposit.

Discount given when rented together together with 'Family Compound I' for a full week.

Well maintained coastal cottage. Short walk to the beach, shops and restaurants. Already thinking about our next visit.

Lovely Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We've been to Manzanita many times, but this was our first stay at this house. We will be back! This is the perfect place for a family vacation or get together with friends. As others have mentioned, the location is terrific. Just blocks from the beach and the center of town. We enjoyed time at the City Park which is also only a few blocks away. There's a nice playground for the kids, and a basketball hoop, tennis court, and volleyball pit for the adults. There's also a covered picnic area with space for a dozen people. We plan to take advantage of this space on our next visit. Everything is within walking distance, so you never have to get in the car while you're here. A welcome change!

Needed dish soap, bath room soap and a deeper clean. Noisy

  • 2 of 5

We were happy at first. Place good location, cute, nice outdoor table to dine. But the place did not have ample dish soap. A travel size one was provided but it was almost empty. There were no bags for trash, no soap in the bathrooms, not even for hand washing. There is a note on fridge that we could call a number if we needed items, but for the price we were paying, I did not believe we should have to make the extra call. When we were leaving, I was checking under the couches and beds for things left behind and there were huge dust bunnies and even an item left by a previous person. Meanwhile the old dog that came with us sat on the couch BUT only while on the towels provided for pets. We were charged 50 dollars for a couch cleaning fee. I checked the couch for anything we may have left between cushions. One would be hard pressed to say the couch was dirty from our dog. Was there a stray hair left from clothes we wore? I was shocked and disappointed bc we left the place spotless.

Owner's Response: These guests arrived before designated check-in without prior permission. This was a very surprising review, so I followed up with my cleaning team to find out what had happened. I pay not only for cleaning, but also Quality Check service that follows the clean to make sure each cleaning is done properly and to resupply all soaps etc. before new guests arrive. These guests arrived before the clean was complete and restocked which explains why it looked like it wasn't finished and the supplies were missing. As written in the check-in information sheet, it states explicitly that allowing dogs on the furniture may result in forfeiture of the deposit. I did not keep all of the deposit, just what was required to clean the sofa. Finally, the description includes information that when the SanDune has live music (not every night), it can be heard from the house. Some guests like this, but because we are located truly steps from town and the beach, people who prefer a really quiet location might be happier on the outer neighborhoods.

Could do with a little TLC and updating. Great location.

A sweet house but could do with little updating for the price.

Beach cabin with convenient location

  • 3 of 5

The best part of this property is its proximity to the beach and Main Street in Manzanita. There are lots of Windows but unfortunately no view. The bed linens are all nice and comfortable and the fence makes it feel private.

I don't recommend this property to anyone who wants to do much cooking, the kitchen is fine but somewhat rustic and not very well stocked.

The cleaning crew for this property is a bit perplexing - we were amazed when we checked in at the fact that it was sand-free (no small accomplishment for a place near the beach that allows pets!) but there was some kind of sticky candy wrapper on top of the fridge along with an old food lid and onion peels on the dining room floor??

Owner's Response: It would be great to have a view, but it is tucked into the trees which is nice for privacy. On the plus side, the rates aren't has high as homes with beach views. Also, I don't know why they were expecting a view in the description it says that it is a short walk to the beach. Close enough to hear the waves :) In terms of the kitchen, I am not sure what our guest is looking for. We have pots, pans, and what is generally included in most rental homes. We don't have things like mandolins and cuisinarts -- just blender, toaster, coffee maker and stuff like that. I spoke with the cleaning management about the issues indicated in the review. They said that these guests arrived early before the clean was completed. I pay for a premium service with my cleaning team that includes a Quality Check after the clean and these people arrived early, even before the initial clean was done. Without prior permisssion, we have a strict 4pm check in particularly during peak season.

Truly steps to town and beach

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed this house and being in walking distance to the town and beach! There is a terrific grocery store around the corner and a few restaurants in town. The rental went very smoothly with clear instructions and no surprises. We did not have any problems with noise or internet access. The living space is comfortable with one full bath. This house is perfect for a family or familiar group since you need to go through the master bedroom to get to the shower/tub. We had 2 adults and 2 kids upstairs with enough space (the kids liked the angled ceilings), and the grandparents downstairs (the stairs would be too steep for them). Note that if you are extremely sensitive to pet smells you might notice that it's a dog-friendly cottage.
