Makarora Mountainview Studio, a tranquil retreat with magnificent mountain views

Makarora Mountainview Studio offers spectacular views of the mountains and river valley, nestled in the picturesque Makarora Valley at the heart of the Southern Alps. Conveniently located halfway between Queenstown and the Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers, this Studio provides an ideal base for exploring the region.

Relaxation and Wildlife
Unwind in the serene atmosphere of the studio and enjoy the private deck, where you can observe native New Zealand birds such as the Kahu (Hawk), Kaka (mountain parrot, seen in summer), Karearea (Falcon), Kereru, Korimako (Bellbird), Miromiro (Tomtit), Ruru (Morepork), Piwakawaka (Fantail), and Tui. At night, take in the stunning, unspoiled night skies from this pristine part of New Zealand.

Guests can also enjoy watching sheep on the neighbouring farm, just 20 metres from the studio.

· Explore the new 1.2km Charteris Track, starting at the bottom of the property and connecting to the local Nature Walk and Mt Shrimpton Track

· Visit glow worms in the saw pit along the Nature Walk at night

· Walk the renowned Blue Pools track, just 10km away, meandering through native bush to the pools

· Choose from numerous hikes, including the multi-day Gillespie Pass Circuit for dedicated trampers

· Boat launch areas available at the lake and river

· Enjoy fishing in local rivers and lakes, renowned for their trout and attracting enthusiastic anglers

Further Afield
· Wanaka is just a 45-minute drive away, and the Cardrona, Treble Cone, and Snow Farm ski fields are an additional 15-30 minutes further for winter sports enthusiasts

· Easy day trips to the West Coast and Jackson's Bay, with many short walks to waterfalls along the highway

With a range of activities to enjoy, consider staying several nights to experience everything Makarora has to offer fully. You can also try the acclaimed Siberia Experience or Heli Siberia trips. These include a 20-minute scenic flight (either fixed-wing or helicopter) into the Siberia Valley, a self-guided three-hour hike to the Wilkin River, and a thrilling 30-minute jet boat ride back to Makarora, with informative commentary about the area's history and geology.
