About The Owner

My husband and I are both educators. We enjoy vacationing with our grown children and extended family.

The Owner purchased this house in 1998

Why The Owner chose Missouri

This is the home I grew up in. In 2008 we took a family trip with our grown children and stayed in a vacation rental home. We enjoyed cooking together and relaxing in a home. We thought this home would be great for families coming to Fort Leonard Wood for graduations and to visit family.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Perfect home for a soldier's family

  • 5 of 5

Our recent stay was so enjoyable! This home has all the amenities of home! It is warm and inviting! The home is clean and well stocked with everything you could need! We had more than enough room and space to enjoy with our soldier on Family Day! The patio was lovely and we were able to spend time outside and enjoy.

The owners were great about checking in on us even bringing us by some homemade bread!

I would recommend this home to large family visiting the area! Thanks for sharing your home with so many military families!!

Owner's Response: Stephanie, thanks so much for the sweet and glowing review. We try our best to make it feel like home with everything you might need except the food. We're so glad you came, that you chose to stay with us and that you enjoyed our home and the time you all spent together. I particularly liked your sign painted on your back windshield that read "move over we're coming to see our soldier".

Awesome!!

  • 5 of 5

Our recent stay was most enjoyable !! The house was spacious with plenty of room to accommodate our party!! Very clean , and comfortable and amply supplied!! The owners called to check in with us, which was a plus!! We always had our questions answered in a timely manner as well, when corresponding via the Internet. We would definitely use this home again if circumstances warranted !! Thank you, and kudos to the owners!!

Owner's Response: Dear Trent and Laura thanks so very much for the positive and upbeat review we try very hard to accommodate our guest and respond to their needs . Our housekeeper works hard to keep an old house clean under our direction and supervision, it is always nice when someone notices our efforts and comments positively about them. Thanks again so very much, hope you had a safe trip home and are doing well. back atcha with the Kudos...Sincerely John and Ann

We stayed here with family from Boston to Tacoma. John went out of his way to make us feel at home and comfortable. He was referred to us actually by his mother, God bless her soul. We were taken very good care of by him. Great place to get together with family!♡♡

Recommend this property, especially for spending time with family & soldier for military graduation.

  • 5 of 5

Owners have made our stay extremely enjoyable. John has checked with us occasionally to make sure we didn't need anything or if we had any questions about anything. Property has a very comfortsble, home like feel. Kitchen was well equipped, linens clean and plenty of them, and living area was comfy to gather and spend time with family. Backyard looked great (gas grill, fire ring, and patio furniture) to spend time relaxing with family, but wrong time of year for us to find out.

Large Home Great location

  • 4 of 5

Thank you for sharing your home with us. It was great to be able to cook a large meal for our graduating soldier. And to have a wonderfully stocked kitchen to help with that was awesome. Directions were super easy and close to convenience stores.

One mile from trophy trout fishing and city park with playground, splash park and spring at Roubidoux parks. Several nearby rivers with canoe rental, near Mark Twain National Forest, 4 blocks from tennis courts and basketball goals (not available during school hours). One mile from Old Stagecoach Stop and historical court house, community theatre, and B & B Theaters Cinema 12. One block off Historic Route 66. Five miles to Saint Robert municipal indoor pool and small seasonal waterpark.

Old Stagecoach Museum on the square in Waynesville is open for tours Wednesdays and Saturdays, April to September.

The square in Waynesville offers an ice cream shop, gift shops, and pubs, taverns and restaurants.

As you go east through Saint Robert to get to the main gate of Fort Leonard Wood, you'll pass the only remaining original Route 66 roadside park in Missouri, now with the addition of a military tank. Route 66 enthusiasts find our home a great base from which to explore landmarks to the east and west, as route runs right through Waynesville. Visit the scenic and historic bridge route though Devil's Elbow and envision it with trucks and cross-country traffic to understand why the Pulaski County section of Route 66 was called Bloody 66. The bluffs surrounding Devil's Elbow were once listed as one of the seven scenic wonders of Missouri.

Fort Leonard Wood features a free indoor-outdoor military museum and free batting cages. Small fees for bowling and fishing (MO fishing license required). Military families can shop at the PX and commissary.

Public golf courses in the area include the 18-hole Piney Valley Golf Course and driving range on Fort Leonard Wood. Saint Robert Municipal Golf Course, Richland Country Club and Public Golf, and Oak Hills Country Club Golf, Dixon, are all 9-hole courses.

50 miles from the large outlet mall at the Lake of the Ozarks, in Osage Beach, Missouri. 80 miles to Springfield, MO, home of Bass Pro shops. One hour and forty-five minutes to Branson, MO.

Jefferson City, MO, the state capital is 75 miles north. There you can join historical and ghost tours at the Missouri State Penitentiary which operated from 1836 to 2004 (reservations required). The inside of the Missouri State Capital building was recently rated as being the most beautiful of all 50 United State capitals by USAToday. The drive to Jefferson City is very scenic, and takes just short of 1.5 hours.
