Acerca de este alojamiento

Cozy Room in a Historic 1880s Inn · Cabot Trail, Cape Breton

Stay in the Piper Room at The Glengarry Inn — a beautifully restored 1880s heritage property in Northern Cape Breton, just 7 minutes from the Cabot Trail in Sugar Loaf. Some trips are about doing everything. This one is about actually stopping. Airbnb has flagged the Piper Room as being in a quiet area of the inn — and on the shores of Aspy Bay, with Sugar Loaf Mountain outside your window, you'll understand why the moment you arrive.

THE ROOM
The Piper Room is on the second floor of the inn — thoughtfully quiet, warm, and exactly what you need after a day on the Cabot Trail. Extra sound insulation has been fitted between the walls, making it one of the best-insulated rooms in the inn.

What you'll find:
- Queen bed with quality linens — properly comfortable
- Private en-suite bathroom with shower
- Air conditioning for warm summer nights
- Smart TV for evenings in
- Keurig coffee maker with starter pods
- Mini fridge for drinks and basics
- Fast WiFi throughout the inn
- Hair dryer and fresh towels
- Windows that open onto mountain views
- Self check-in via keypad.
- Free parking on site.

THE INN
The Glengarry was built in 1880 and has been a place for people to stay and gather ever since — a lodge, a general store, a community meeting place. The original 19th-century general store on the ground floor is still largely intact and now serves as a small on-site museum, which we love showing guests around.

THE LOCATION
You're in Dingwall, a small fishing village on the north shore of Cape Breton. North Harbour Beach on Aspy Bay is a short walk down our driveway. Sugar Loaf Mountain is what you see from your window each morning. The Cabot Trail — one of the world's great scenic drives — begins 7 minutes away.

Nearby:
— Cabot Trail entrance (Sugar Loaf) — 7 min
— Cape Breton Highlands National Park — 30 min
— Meat Cove scenic drive — 20 min
— North Harbour Beach, Aspy Bay — walkable
— Whale watching (humpbacks and minkes) — seasonal Jun to Oct
— Bald eagle sightings along the Aspy Bay shoreline
— Hiking: Aspy Trail, Coastal Trail, North Mountain, Skyline Trail
— Kayaking on Aspy Bay
— Fresh lobster direct from local fishermen
— Alexander Graham Bell Historic Site, Baddeck — 45 min
— Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW
No pets allowed for guests. Two friendly miniature Australian shepherds — Ben and Quin — live on the property and love welcoming guests.

This is a 145-year-old building, and some sounds move through it the way it does in old places. The Piper Room is one of the quieter ones, but light sleepers may wish to pack earplugs.
The exterior of the inn is under gradual restoration — a labour of love that's been years in the making. Your room is fully finished and completely unaffected.

We're Jim and Cathy, and we live on the property. We came to Northern Cape Breton for the same reason most guests do: the mountains, the ocean, the silence, and the Cabot Trail. We stayed.

We've spent the last several years restoring The Glengarry Inn, a genuine 1880s property on the shores of Aspy Bay, into a place we're proud to open to guests. The inn has had many lives over the years: a lodge, a general store, a community gathering place. We wanted to give it another one.

Por qué escogió este alojamiento

Dingwall sits at the base of the Sugar Loaf and Sam's Mountain range, on the north shore of Cape Breton, where Aspy Bay opens to the Atlantic. The Cabot Trail — one of the world's great coastal scenic drives — begins 7 minutes up the road. Cape Breton Highlands National Park is 30 minutes away.

In summer, humpback and minke whales surface in the bay, bald eagles follow the shoreline, and the sunsets over the mountains are the kind you don't photograph because no photograph does them justice. In winter, the snow on Sugar Loaf and the stillness of Aspy Bay are something else entirely.

Dingwall is a genuine small fishing village — not a tourist town. That's the whole point. We chose this neighbourhood because there is nowhere in Nova Scotia quite like it, and staying here means slowing down to match its pace.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial

Most places near the Cabot Trail are cottages or motels. The Glengarry Inn is neither. It was built in 1880 and has been a place for people to stay and gather ever since — a genuine piece of Nova Scotia history that we've spent years lovingly restoring.

The Piper Room is a thoughtfully quiet retreat on the second floor of the inn — Airbnb has specifically identified it as being in a quiet area. Extra sound insulation has been fitted between the walls, and its position in the building makes it one of the most peaceful rooms we offer. It's ideal for couples and solo travellers who want to actually stop and disconnect for a few days.

Downstairs, the original 19th-century general store — largely untouched since the 1950s — now serves as an on-site museum we love showing guests around. The kind of detail you don't expect to find on a rental listing.

And the setting: North Harbour Beach on Aspy Bay is a walk down our driveway, Sugar Loaf Mountain is what you see from your window, and the Cabot Trail is 7 minutes up the road. There is genuinely nowhere else quite like this.
