About Sara/Jamie

We met in Hawaii, fell in love in Hawaii....and the rest is history. Now we get to share our good fortune with guests from around the world.

Why Sara/Jamie chose Hilo

We are happy to have this wonderful cottage in Hawaii, and we love the Big Island, its many sights and its friendly people. Hilo gives one the chance to get a feel of the real Hawaii. The Farmers Market in town is a profusion of color from the many exotic flowers, fruits, and native crafts. One comes away with one comes away with a special feeling after exploring this unique area.

What makes this house unique

Great price for a beautifully furnished, comfortable and spacious cottage, located right in Hilo. Easy to get to many of the Big Island sights, lots to do and see.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We very much enjoyed staying at the cottage, it was very comfortable and the sound of the frogs plus the rain on the roof was fantastic!

Lovely Hawaiian getaway,

  • 5 of 5

This property does not disappoint. The space is as described, a very comfortable layout with lovely Asian appointments (mostly) throughout. Kitchen was perfectly adequate. We enjoyed the bathroom details, with vanity in one section and shower in the other. The zen feel of the 2 platform rockers is a nice touch. The deck had a great view, although not of the waterfall itself, but rather of lush vegetation descending to the waterfall. We did enjoy the waterfall: very dramatic! The one flaw is the couch, whose center spring poked up so much it was difficult to sit on. All in all, a very pleasant space and we want to return.

Beautiful and serene property

  • 5 of 5

We stayed mid Jan through mid Feb 2018. During this time we experienced monsoon rains and The Big Mistake ie the false incoming missile alert. Without a doubt, had we not been living in such a magical place, the only thing standing out in our memory would have been those two instances. Instead we felt that there was no better place to say adieu to the world and watch it go from the beautiful balcony in the trees under the pouring rain. Mika Mitzu has everything you need. From the well appointed kitchen, towels and linen, books, dvds and even playing cards. Snorkel gear and beach chairs are available as well. Just when you wished you had rubber gloves to peel your turmeric, open a drawer and there they are!

The space is beautifully and tastefully decorated in a fung shuai zen way. A lovely Hawaiian vase of flowers welcomed us as well as a bottle of bubbly in the fridge. It was quite the experience to take a shower in the indoor/outdoor bathroom while watching the rain fall! I looked forward to it each day! We decided to ditch the rental car during the first two weeks of our stay. It is only a half a mile to town downhill. Just remember that you have to get back up! ;).

I highly recommend this beautiful cottage up the hill and we hope to come back one day.

We just got back after spending a week at Mika Mizu. Absolutely gorgeous home, wonderful owner, and outstanding location. The owner took utmost care in selecting everything at Mika Mizu to make it a wonderful experience for guests. This should be your first preference if you are visiting Hilo, infact if you are visiting Big Island.
