Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2

Aloha and welcome to Mika Mizu, serenity in Hilo. Here you will experience a unique and memorable Hawaiian vacation. Mika Mizu is a spacious, but cozy one bedroom cottage, all on one level, no steps! This beautiful cottage is located in a soothing and natural setting with waterfalls and abundant flora and fauna. It is less than one mile to historic downtown Hilo, yet you feel far removed.

Mika Mizu was designed for 2 guests, but will comfortably accommodate 3. The cottage is stocked with amenities such as spices and cooking staples in an efficiency kitchen with a full size refrigerator, a built-in 2-burner stovetop, a microwave/convection oven, a toaster and a gas BBQ grill for outdoor cooking. Also provided are both high speed WiFi and cable TV. It has been tastefully furnished in a casually elegant Island style, creating a very congenial ambiance for your comfort and enjoyment. You will be amazed at this wonderful vacation find.

Hilo is the second largest city in the Hawaiian Islands. There is a four-year University of Hawaii campus in Hilo, several fine restaurants, a Tsunami museum, and interesting events occurring at all times of the year. The natural beauty of the area is astounding. Many waterfalls, nature hikes, boogie boarding, surfing, botanical gardens, and scenic drives through rainforests are all nearby. Volcano National Park is approximately 45 minutes away. Kailua-Kona, the tourist area of the Big Island, with its many high-end Kohala Coast hotels, is one and a half hours away. Waimea, the paniolo (cowboy) region of Parker Ranch fame is approximately one hour. The Waipio Valley and its lovely lookout is one hour. You can take helicopter rides over this taro-filled valley with its dramatic cliffs that plunge to the sea. You can do the same if you wish to see what our very active Kilaeua Volcano is up to. And Mauna Kea, our gigantic mountain with its world renowned Keck Observatory, might be snow capped while you are here - quite the sight looking up from the shores of the blue Pacific.

Note: Mika Mizu is not appropriate for children under 6 years

About Sara/Jamie

We met in Hawaii, fell in love in Hawaii....and the rest is history. Now we get to share our good fortune with guests from around the world.

Why Sara/Jamie chose Hilo District

We are happy to have this wonderful cottage in Hawaii, and we love the Big Island, its many sights and its friendly people. Hilo gives one the chance to get a feel of the real Hawaii. The Farmers Market in town is a profusion of color from the many exotic flowers, fruits, and native crafts. One comes away with one comes away with a special feeling after exploring this unique area.

What makes this house unique

Great price for a beautifully furnished, comfortable and spacious cottage, located right in Hilo. Easy to get to many of the Big Island sights, lots to do and see.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We very much enjoyed staying at the cottage, it was very comfortable and the sound of the frogs plus the rain on the roof was fantastic!

Cheers!

Lovely home with an incredible waterfall experience!

  • 5 of 5

Sara and Jamie's place is a perfect home base from which to explore Hilo. Reed's Bay is a gorgeous, private neighborhood just a stone's throw away from downtown Hilo. The house feels like it's perched in the middle of a tropical jungle with amazing views from every spot in the house. Having meals on the lanai among the trees is a real treat. The true highlight is the gorgeous waterfall on the property, and we loved climbing down to the falls and swimming every day. The only downside is the lack of airflow so it's gets a bit warm in the daytime. However, the ceiling fans help a lot and it cools down nicely at night for sleeping. All in all, we highly recommend this lovely property for anyone who wants a fantastic Hilo getaway with a gorgeous private waterfall!

Wonderful Rain Forest retreat

  • 4 of 5

Cute cottage! Comfortable bed and equipped with everything necessary to live comfortably for a few days. It was centrally located and a fairly close walk to town. The only thing I would say is be aware if you are a light sleeper that if you are in the rain forest it comes to life at night. Coqui frogs are precious, but loud at night. My husband and I did not mind. We were aware of the environment we where in and that it would be loud at night. If you are the type of person that needs quite at night to sleep you should not stay here. We truly had a wonderful experience. Hilo is amazing! The farmers market was a highlight for us.

Amazing private getaway

  • 5 of 5

We loved spending a week here! There was a family next door but we wouldn't have even noticed if it wasn't for their car. There was also construction on the other side but again, they were not an issue at all and when we saw them (never really heard them) they were very kind. Everything at the house was perfect and we really appreciated the welcome basket and all the great info. Thank you again for everything and we would love to come back in the future!
