Chimney Canyon Estate is a beautiful custom home of Idaho pine logs with large rooms and vaulted ceilings. The decor features design furniture with Western/Native original art creating the unique ambiance of this beautiful estate. A rock fireplace graces the center of the living room.
The 2700 sq.ft. home is located on three and one-half acres of private property on the edge of Chimney Canyon above Piedmont Valley. It borders federal forest providing immediate access to hiking, hunting, and other mountain sports activities. Its location offers a private and unobstructed view of the canyon and the surrounding Black Hills which can be enjoyed through the inside picture windows or from a lounge chair on the ten-foot deep, wraparound deck. Ponderosa Pine, a dominant feature of the Hills, surround the home and property. Frequent visitors include abundant white-tail deer and turkey.
The estate was built only 14 years ago and includes all the comforts and amenities of the modern home. The large family room downstairs also converts easily into additional sleeping for four. The home is located one mile from Interstate 90 and equal distance from Rapid City and Sturgis, South Dakota, home of the famous Motorcycle Classic and Rally. The home sits on Chimney Canyon and overlooks it to the west. To the east it overlooks Piedmont Butte, the sight of Custer's exit from the Black Hills over a century ago.
This location makes it the 'best of both worlds,' providing easy access to the shopping and fine dining of Rapid City and a quick entree into the Black Hills mountain playground, including Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, Needles Highway, Historic Deadwood and the famous Passion Play in Spearfish, South Dakota.
Also, this home is loaded with amenities... check them out including digital TV & Music, high-speed internet, and music piped into the rooms. Ladies especially seem to enjoy time in the jetted tub with 'Romanza', or some other favorite piece, piped into the bathroom.
If you are looking for a private, convenient, comfortable, and beautiful place to stay during your time in the Black Hills, Chimney Canyon Estate could very well be the place for you.

We had a great time in South Dakota while staying at your restful home! Thank you for sharing it with us. It certainly allowed for a unique way to enjoy the Black Hills away from the tourists!
I know how important reviews are when choosing your vacation rental, so I wanted to make sure I came back to this site to leave one because we couldn't have been happier with our stay at Chimney Canyon Estate!
The cabin was beautiful and conveniently located right off I-90 which made getting to all of the South Dakota attractions extremely easy. We were looking for a place with privacy and also one that was surrounded by the natural beauty of South Dakota and this cabin definitely had both, which was a wonderful way to begin and end each day of our stay! The cabin had everything you would need to make your stay feel comfortable and the bed in the master bedroom was the best I have ever slept on! You could tell Michael and Angela put great care into making their guests feel at home. It's the little things that mean so much and didn't go unnoticed.......Even though it was early evening when we arrived, Angela still made it a point to come out and greet us and go over everything we might need to know during our stay.
Thanks again Michael for sharing your beautiful cabin with us and making our South Dakota trip that much more enjoyable!
An impressive home with exceptional views. Perfectly located home between Rapid City and Sturgis. Close enough to all the sites and remote enough to get away from everything. We enjoyed mornings sitting on the deck drinking coffee, relaxing, and enjoying the view along with frequent visits from the local wildlife.
The home is well appointed and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped to prepare any meal. They paid attention to the small details to make sure we were comfortable, even had ice cubes made in the freezer.
This was my first rental using VRBO. I was rather hesitant but was looking forward to the experience of something other than a hotel or timeshare. Chimney Canyon Estate is situated on a ridge-top overlooking Chimney Canyon only 15 minutes from Rapid City.... but you have the feeling of having stepped through a door into the most peaceful wilderness setting you could ask for. We were met at the house and given the tour and shown how everything worked. The home was tastefully appointed in western motif - Native American art throughout. After a long drive it was dark and we had dinner in a kitchen that had everything a cook could ask for and then retired to the main bedroom - yes a waterbed - but not the 1980s type - it was very supportive...and another bedroom downstairs. The next morning walked out onto the wraparound deck and the blaze of red sumac and other orange, yellows and greens against the reforesting canyon hillside was something to marvel at. Some earlier reviews stated it would be nice if there was furniture on the deck. Was surprised to find several pieces had been added and this allowed for some nice breakfasts out there. The large expansive windows gave a great view from inside as well. The owner had a table stocked with all the travel info of the surrounding area you could ask for and next to that a telescope for stargazing at night. All the furniture was comfortable and the bathrooms well maintained with plenty of hot water. A garage sheltered the rental car from the elements. Within an hour's drive was so much to see that you easily could have stayed there three weeks or more. It was literally in the center of all the attractions and such a great place to come home to. Wished I had more time just to relax there. I can only hope that the next VRBO rental I am looking for in Maine will be half as nice. I would recommend to anyone visiting the area without reservation. Thanks much for making the first week of our vacation so wonderful.
Our stay at this cabin was great! It was centrally located for what we wanted to see while in the area. Nice home base to come back to in the evenings. Comfortable bed, waterbed was quite comfortable. Mike and his associate/friend Angela were professional, efficient, and very nice to work with. The cabin was clean and neat. Directions were easy to follow. Nice views and big deck to sit on...seen deer in the yard in the evenings. Would definitely recommend this cabin.
I agree with previous reviewers - we had a great stay at this cabin. Michael and his assistant, Mike were very accommodating. Mike met us at the house and made sure we had what we needed. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, etc. as well as basic spices and condiments. There was a butcher shop nearby that provided several dinners for us, and a grocery store in Rapid City. There is a fairly steep gravel road and driveway but my minivan did just fine. There is a waterbed in the master bedroom ; haven't had one of those in years, but it actually was quite comfortable and they've apparently come a long way since the waterbed I slept in 20+ years ago. We used this house as a base to explore the Black Hills. We spent the most time at Custer State park which was a bit of a drive 45 min to an hour, but expect that in this area as things are a bit spread out, however traffic is light and speed limits are high so you get used to it. One small suggestion would be to have a table and chairs on the deck. (there are a couple of chairs, but no table at which to eat)
Overall, a very nice stay. I would not hesitate to stay here again should our travels take us to this area.
What a wonderful home!!! Was so totally amazed by the beauty surrounding this home! The deck was the perfect get-away and held many family conversations while staying here! We had a perfect Holiday and was so glad we chose this as our "base" while staying in the Black Hills. The weather, though not as perfect as our accomodations, was cooperative enough and the one day we rode our motorcycle from Keystone back to Piedmont was a day to never forget....just missing the hailstorm and driving through 6 inces of the nasty white stuff!! Would TOTALLY stay here again if given the chance!! Thanks Michael for making our trip complete! Won't stay in another hotel room again!
