Oh how we loved the North Shore

  • 5 of 5

I took my family and an old friend to stay at Malaekahana house and we all loved it and the location far away from the congestion of Honolulu and Waikiki. The beaches on the North Shore are wonderful with bath tub temperature water in June. This house is a must for larger groups - right on the ocean and beautifully equipped. Little shopping town of Hale'iwa close as well as Wiamea Falls and botanic gardens. Close as well to the surfing beaches for a winter trip. Food trucks were good which my grandkids liked plus Polynesian Cultural Center about 4 miles away. Not one of us had one negative thing to say about this vacation and the beautiful Soul Surfer house was 90% of the reason why. Good owners and managers - very helpful plus a neighbor to answer a few questions.

Beautiful, quiet, comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

Our party of six - 3 couples - stayed at Malaekahana Beach House for a week in October, 2015. The home was very comfortable and extremely well equipped. Everything was clean and in very good condition. The home is well situated between Kailua / Kanehoe and the North Shore. We even took a drive via the North Shore to the Dole Plantation one afternoon. We were in Hawaii for a family wedding and all of our relatives who also rented homes agreed that we had the best place, in terms of quality of accommodations, general condition and amenities. The owners were very easy to work with. Mahola.

Simply delightful!

  • 5 of 5

This house provided everything we could have possibly asked for in a vacation rental. It was spacious, clean and in a great location. As mentioned in other reviews, the photos just don't do it justice.

Cooking on the briquette BBQ that was onsite was a task that was fun for the first few nights, but the addition of propane BBQ would be the only suggestion that we could make that would enhance a stay at this great house.

We highly recommend this house, and would definitely stay there again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We take great pride in keeping our house comfortable for both us and our renters. We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay and that you will come back again. We have tried to figure out how to keep a gas grill at the property but due to the salt air, any metal grill will rust out within the year. This is why we have built the concrete grill that can have the grates changed when needed. It would be a real shame for a family to arrive and find a gas grill that does not work properly due to rust. We think that having a grill that we know will be in working order outways the convenience of a gas grill. Thank you for your ideas.

Perfect Place To Stay In Oahu

  • 5 of 5

This house was absolutely heaven. The photos certainly don't do it justice. It was very spacious and airy with breathtaking views throughout. The lawn was gorgeous with many beautiful plants and trees. The beach area was great. We walked on the beach everyday and on many of those walks we only saw a couple of people during a 3 mile walk. The house was immaculately clean with all the amenities that you would need for a beach vacation in Hawaii. After long days on the beach we would watch the movie Soul Surfer and see our beautiful house we were staying in. Even though there are houses on each side of this home, you feel secluded because of the beautiful trees and bushes surrounding this fantastic property. It was a wonderful stay in Paradise! We ate shrimp at one of the many shrimp trucks parked along Kamehameha Hwy in the evenings. The food was great. We also at a couple of times at a restaurant called The Crouching Lion. The food was very tasty and presented beautifully with an orchid on each plate of food. Loved the entire experience. If I return to Oahu, this is the home I will stay in always.

Absolutely the best ever!!

  • 5 of 5

This house was a meeting place for my family for Christmas. We are local residents but currently "houseless" while we construct our new home and wanted a place where the "kids" could come home to for Christmas (all adults now). This place was simply amazing!! Best ever and we've stayed in some really great places. Favorites for us were the privacy, the beautiful sunrises, the nearly private beach and the cool breezes. What a perfect place to unwind and relax. Thanks for sharing with us! we'll be back :-)

The World Melted Away

  • 5 of 5

What a place! It was perfect for us. Finding the little opening in the verdant wall in the dark wasn't easy but the neighbors put out some cones, and the effort was totally worth it.

My wife is very particular about cleanliness and was worried about hanging out in someone elses house. The place was spotless. My daughter is freaked out by bugs which can be abundant in tropical locations. We never saw a single one.

The house accommodated the seven of us easily. The kitchen and common areas are huge. We invited four additional friends from Laie to visit one evening and had plenty of room for every one.

The beds were very comfortable. We could have slept all day (except for the occasional crow from the roaming roosters) but that would have wasted the natural beauty just outside the back door. We walked every morning on the beach and played every day in the ocean. Jjust down the beach to the left is perfect for boogy boarding - plenty of boards are available along with beach mats, beach towels, a couple of snorkel sets and some reef shoes for a trek to Goat Island if you are brave.

We enjoyed the relaxed local eateries and attractions like Ted's Bakery, Kahuku Grill (the shave ice next door is excellent), the Hukilau Cafe (try the banana pancakes), the LDS temple and the Polynesian Cultural Center. The PCC is a must do. The different villages are fun and informative and the people are delightful. We felt like family there. The luau is terrific and the evening show was amazing.

We explored other North Shore beaches too. We saw sea turtles sunning themselves, hung out in the tide pools at Shark's Cove. (Note: The beaches are very busy on the weekends but during the week the place was nearly empty.)

We went to a place on Maui after this and we all longed to be back here. We'll definitely come again.
