Great experience from start to finish. It is hard to imagine that a better option exists on St. Lucia. The house is incredible, with plenty of space and unbeatable views from virtually every spot. It is also exceptionally well equipped in terms of indoor and outdoor furnishings, original art, fans, kitchen equipment, laundry, games, DVDs, yoga mats, wifi, etc. Pool is great--bigger than we expected and with a great shady lounge area. The view from the pool is, just like that from the enormous patios of the house and guest house, arguably as good as it gets anywhere on the island. Staff keep the place in perfect shape inside and out, prepare great meals as you wish using a lot of fresh local ingredients, adapt to your allergies and preferences, and handle the shopping. The owner, Nancy, was super responsive and helpful throughout, including during the stay. The house is close (maybe 15 minute walk, or 5 minutes by car) to Anse Chastenet Beach and Resort, where anyone can go for free (including parking) and where it is possible to purchase a "club membership" for a week that gives essentially the same status as resort guests for lounge chairs, towels, water sports equipment, and charging privileges, including beach-side food and beverage service. (A tip: not all the staff at Anse Chastenet seem to know about the club membership; it seemed helpful when we arrived to pay it that we had written in advance and could refer to their colleague's message.) There are also good restaurants there. Nancy seems to have a great relationship with her staff at the house, and we were very comfortable having them there. Private tennis court (again with spectacular view!) is a great plus that we used every day. If competitive tennis is important to you, be aware that the versacourt-type surface is inherently a little inconsistent, and there are are few spots where the tiles are loose. But for casual hitting we enjoyed it a lot, and the house has a bunch of racquets and balls. (There is a hardcourt in good condition at Anse Chastenet; not clear whether that is included in the club membership, but we saw no one using it). We took Nancy's advice and had her favorite driver take us to and from the airport, but had a car delivered for our stay. Driving is on the left and mildly treacherous, but this was definitely the right call. We have had only good luck with rental properties over the years, but Nancy and this property stand out.
Paradise. Couldn’t be better
In simple words "THE BEST VACATION "
We booked Tamarind and cottage for our family get together of 7. It is difficult putting into words how great the house and location are, and the staff were all fantastic and provided food and service which was just superb.
You cannot really get a sense from the pictures how breathtaking the views are from everywhere on the property - dining table, rooms, cottage, terraces, pool and even the Tennis court. When we first arrived everyone in the family was speechless at how amazing the house and cottage were. A few commented that they now wondered why we booked some excursions - they wanted to spend as much time at the house as possible.
The beach was fantastic and not crowded - we went to the far beach where there is a great burger bar for lunch (numerous times). The walk down and back up is challenging but provided good exercise to earn our food and drinks. Snorkeling was even good at this beach - just off the shore.
Ann, Cheryl, Paul and the staff assisted with everything and were very friendly and accommodating to our needs. Great food (home made ice cream included), helping to arrange transportation (Trevor and John who were great), getting Passion fruit and bananas etc for us.
Nancy was great to deal with and very helpful throughout the process and luckily we were able to meet her in person before we left and learn a little more about this amazing property.
We had been to St Lucia before but this is the first time we have rented. Staying in a house allowed us to get out and see some of the island and Soufriere in particular - everyone was very friendly - we were even offered a ride back up the hill from the beach an a couple of occasions.
Our family is already trying to figure out timing to book another trip down to St. Lucia and a stay at Tamarind House - we cannot say enough about how fantastic our stay was.
Family Holiday spot
The destination was everything we expected based on the VRBO listing and conversations with Owner. Owner was delightfully helpful in all matters when we planned our week-long activities in advance of arrival. After arrival the staff knew what we needed, even before we did, and provided exceptional service. Everything we experienced led our family to wholeheartedly agree this home is one to which we all would happily return. The Owner has a wealth of experience as a host and she makes her guests feel right at home.
Tamarind House and the lovely people who work there were the highlights of our vacation. We have been fortunate enough to travel to several continents and we have never had a villa or a view that compares. There were dozens of things that contributed to our happiness... open-air rooms and showers, fresh flowers, locally-sourced coffee, beautiful artwork, best eggs ever, friendly people and more.
No picture or review could do this property or the staff justice, so the best I can say is out of five stars, this is a ten!
Tamarind House would be great for couples or large families. It is built into the mountainside, like much of St. Lucia, so guests need to be able to do a couple of flights of stairs. Ann and Cheryl make delicious food. We highly recommend the pasta salad, the homemade ice cream, the eggs with chives, banana cake and more. Hire Chef Basil (pronounced Bah- sell) for at least one evening and the leftovers will carry you through lunch the next day.
If you go to Anse Chastanet (the nearest beach access), make a stop at the beach bar for Yannik's special mai tai. Don't believe anyone else who says they make it just like he does!!! When you are ready for the beach, skip right over what you see initially (other than the snorkeling to the left) and ask for directions to Anse Mamin. Follow the path to a much more secluded beach, that still has bathrooms, drinks and wonderful burgers. Make sure to say "hi" to Anthony. He will be the one picking up every stray leaf and rock to keep Anse Mamin pristine! For a special treat, pay for a chair package there ($60 at the time of our stay) and get two beach chairs, an umbrella, 2 large bottles of water and two glasses of juice, to support your beach day.
Thank you Nancy, for sharing your amazing home. Thanks to Ann, Cheryl, Zilia, Paul and Dillion for their kindness, hard work, beautiful spaces and delicious food. Thanks to the people of St. Lucia for welcoming us and sharing their special island. Simply awesome.
Rain forest tours, mineral baths, waterfalls, zip lining, massages in house, tennis coach, personal trainer. Rainforest walks can be arranged. Climb the Pitons, bathe in outdoor mineral baths, diving and snorkeling near by. Eco Tourism, plantation tours, Heritage sites, horse back riding, drive in volcano
About Nancy Blackwell
I lived in St. Lucia from the early 1980's until 2011. Tamarind House was a private home and always open to friends and family. It is now open for memorable family gatherings by renting on VRBO. I can answer almost any question you might have about the Soufriere area. And I have a wide circle of people who can help to make your holiday a dream come true.
Why Nancy Blackwell chose Soufriere
Wonderfully large space, room for everyone to have their own space but be together as well. Fantastic staff who cook fabulous meals.
What makes this House unique
