About Penny Wardlaw
I first came to the area in the 1960s to fly fish for salmon in the Smith River and fell in love with the view from the deck and the closeness to the Ocean, Smith River and the Redwoods. I bought the home without ever going inside! I watched a sunset from the deck and made the offer! I live in Santa Barbara, CA so this vacation home is a day and a half drive for me.
Penny Wardlaw purchased this House in 1976
Why Penny Wardlaw chose Crescent City
Best view in the County and right on the water! The setting is wonderful and the house is best described as cozy. The area is not Disneyland but there is plenty to see and do in nature. The Smith River, only remaining undammed, Wild and Scenic River in the state, is a short drive. There are numerous trails through the redwoods with trail heads within a few minutes drive. These amazing trees are a National treasure and something to behold!
What makes this House unique
The town is a convenient few blocks but the home is on a point so you see no other residences from the Living Room, a definite sense of privacy. Everyone agrees how cozy and comfortable it is; decorated for enjoyment, not for show. The Jed Smith Redwood Park is just minutes away by car and they trees are all along the road coming in. The Klamath River is 20 miles south and Fern Canyon is a must see.

It was nice to step into a different world.
We enjoyed staying in the beach. A remote Lao
Action with a view that could not be beat.
Cozy house, comfy furniture, plenty of linens and blankets, safe during a storm. Can't beat the location, magnificent views - even saw whale spouts! 5 adults, 1 three-year-old and a pup; we had a great stay, thank you!
SO glad you enjoyed your visit. It is my favorite spot in the world!
Beautiful view, cozy digs!
Wonderful cabin with cozy ambiance and a view so stellar that you won't want to leave. Upstairs and downstairs living areas were useful for 2 couples. Our dogs enjoyed the beach and curling up by the fire. We also enjoyed the brewery down the street. Communication with host was easy and check in went smoothly. Highly recommend this cabin!
So glad you enjoyed the house! Really glad the dogs liked it, too! Next time we will have better sand control :->) and new floors (redecorating this winter!). Hope you can join us again!
The house itself is older, but very accommodating. The location could not be better. The view from the deck and from inside the house was outstanding. The beach is only a few steps away and there is much to do in Crescent City and nearby. There are a number of good restaurants in the area. We very much enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to the possibility of coming back in the future for a longer period of time.
Ron, I am so glad you enjoyed your stay! Appreciate the update on work and we look forward to seeing you again!
Home was clean and cozy. Right on the coast, we spent hours walking the beach and rocks at low tide looking for sea stars and shells. Lost count at how many we found. We enjoyed the home and will be back for another stay soon.
I am so glad you enjoyed the house and our beach. Have some ideas to brighten up the kitchen and den; I hope you come back and can enjoy the improved house, the beach and the sunsets soon!
Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you again.
Jedidiah Smith Redwood Park very close to this Northernmost City in California. Nearby Smith River is the only remaining undammed Wild and Scenic River in CA. Trails and Sightseeing abound with relatively milder climate than other cities along the North Coast.
