About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Full luxury in breathtaking natural beauty. Remote and private. So quiet you can hear your heart beat. At night, no city lights disturb your view of the star-studded sky.

From this 1,475 square foot Casita, you'll enjoy panoramic 360-degree views: Abiquiu Lake, miles of mesas, rolling hills, and the magnificent red cliffs surrounding the famous Ghost Ranch. To the south you'll see the 10,000-foot mountain known as El Pedernal, which Georgia O'Keefe made famous in her paintings, along with much of the near landscape.

Our Casita was built in 2008, and designed by a local architect in a southwestern yet modern style. It's fully furnished for comfort. The kitchen has stainless steel appliances, including a Bosch gas stove with heavy gauge grills for those who really love to cook.

Check out the Master bathroom: you can choose between a slate shower or a deep soaking tub to soothe your body after an invigorating hike in the nearby Jemez Mountains. Besides the 2 bedrooms with Queen beds, there is a queen bed sofa in the Great Room with spectacular views of the lake and Ghost ranch.

Why The Owner chose Youngsville

My wife and I have been visiting Northern New Mexico for almost 30 years. The skies, the red rocks, the mesas, the food, the locals, the hiking, the skiing…. are all so inviting. Finally, we decided that it was time to buy a place, not only to use as a getaway for ourselves, but for friends and family alike. We also want to introduce others to Abiquiu and Northern NM, so we’ve decided to make this a vacation getaway for you as well. We know you’ll be enchanted by NM as we have been.

Perfection

  • 5 of 5

This home has left me at a loss for words. I thought of every superlative I know to describe the experience of being at Vista de Lago, and while they would all be appropriate, none can truly capture the special magic of this spot. Nothing quite prepares you for the sweeping views of the countryside or the organic way the house takes advantage of its situation high on the mesa. This is truly a perfect marriage of nature and architecture. It is, quite simply, the most comfortable and comforting place I have ever spent 5 days. The owners have provided everything you might need and it is all in good working order. The walk to the Lake is 15 minutes and especially beautiful late in the day. Plaza Blanca is 20 minutes by car and truly not to be missed. But what I really recommend is arriving with enough food and drink to allow you to stay put for as long as possible. You will want to watch sunrise from the portal and then move to catch sunset from one of the west-facing porches. In between you will be overwhelmed by the sheer beauty of what lies before you, and the amazing way your hosts have maximized your opportunity to enjoy it all. Sound like I am raving? Well, I am. We are now eager to experience Vista de Lago in all its seasons. Staying here is an experience you will never forget.

Owner's Response: Hi Pat, Thank you so much for your kind words about Vista de Lago. Yeah, we find it very difficult to leave our little Casita. Yes, there are SO many wonderful things to do (Ghost Ranch, the Lake, Georgia O'Keeffe's studio, hiking, the Monastery, etc.) And yet more often than not, we just can't bring ourselves to leave for even a few hours. It's just so peaceful...so satisfying to just take it all in from our little spot on top of the Mesa. It's actually even harder to tear ourselves away when we have to leave to catch a plane. So you are welcome back anytime, and we look forward to your return. All the best, Larry and Laurie

Extraordinary!

  • 5 of 5

Stunning property! The pictures are accurate but cannot convey how beautiful this home and the area are in person. The portico and view from the living room are spectacular during the day, but to see so many stars from inside at night is something special. We wanted stillness and quiet, but were surprised at how calm and peaceful this was. Perfect setting! The home has everything you need, and extra supplies are available. Although we were there for Thanksgiving, we chose to eat an excellent meal at the Abiquiu Inn to celebrate, however we cooked the remainder of our meals. The kitchen has everything you need, even an electric water kettle. Larry and Laurie thought of every detail and are excellent hosts. All of our questions were promptly answered, including where to hike with our dogs. We hope to return in the future to explore more and to reconnect with this peaceful place. Thanks to Larry and Laurie for sharing their casita with us.

Beautiful and quiet, very remote

  • 4 of 5

The home and the view are amazing. The peaceful nature of location and the view of the lake, especially at dusk with all the shadowing is really something special to see.

The great room makes for amazing views of sunrise and sunset.

I was surprised by just how remote this home is. As long as you come prepared with plenty of food, then it's fine. The kitchen is stocked pretty well with the exception of extra large pots (had to make chili using two pots) and tupperware for storing cooked food.

The shower pressure in the extra bathroom is very poor. And the internet is super slow. I understood that satellite can only do so much; however, we kept getting an error message stating that data usage had gone over the limit which was slowing the internet down even more. I contacted the owner about it on the 2nd or 3rd day of our visit hoping they would up the plan or something. Unfortunately, they did not and we continued getting this error message for the remainder of our week stay.

They have an amazing bath tub; however, while filling it, the hot water ran out which made for a lukewarm bath. I was also surprised at how dirty the water was in the bath tub (water from kitchen faucet and ice maker were just fine).

This is the perfect place for relaxation and quiet time. It does get a bit windy, but overall it was great!!!

Owner's Response: Hi Catherine, We're very happy you enjoyed yourself. Surprised that you didn't let me know - in real time - while you were there that there was an issue with water pressure or temperature, as we would have had the maintenance guy and the plumber out to remedy the situation immediately. We can't repair something in real time if we don't know about it. Satellite internet service in remote areas is great for email and basic web surfing, which you clearly had no problem with. There was no additional slowing down of the Internet service, just the usual basic Satellite speeds. Unfortunately, guests have a habit of taking Tupperware with them so we are constantly replacing these items, so thank you for keeping us apprised of this, as we will again stock more of them for guest use. We hope you had a great time at our place and in the Abiquiu area in general. Safe travels, Larry and Laurie

Had been before and loved it. Upon return was better than we remembered. House unique and uniquely situated to understand profound beauty of area. Low WiFi band with only shortcoming for us.

Vista de Lago - A Great Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I, along with a close family friend, stayed at Vista de Lago in mid-October for four wonderful days and nights. The views from the home are incredible and the house itself, while small in square footage, is designed so well that there is no feeling of too little space. The house is in perfect condition and a pleasure to be in. Vista de Lago is highly recommended, but be prepared; it's a long ride to a supermarket. Definitely 5-Stars.
