I have lived in Puerto Vallarta since 1965, when I married my architect husband, who had moved here from Mexico City. We lived and raised our children here. Although Puerto Vallarta has grown it is still a jewel on the Pacific coast.
The Owner purchased this house in 2004
I have lived in Puerto Vallarta almost my entire adult life. when I was researching where to relocate in Mexico I explored all over Mexico, but like Dorothy, I came back to what I consider home and where My children were born and raised. The key is the people of this lovely city. The people of Puerto Vallarta are the kindest and warmest and they adopt you as a friend for life. The location of our home is ideal. One need never have a car. The shops, galleries and restaurants are so close. There are times however when I never leave the house, because it is a wonderful space to relax and just do nothing. I particuarly enjoy the bird watching along the river and observing the arrival of the rains come down the canyon of the River Cuale from the balcony or roof top.
My husband and I both just want to thank Jane so much for the use of her beautiful home. We had a great time as usual, but staying in this home really added to our enjoyment. An absolutely stunning place, we loved it! The decor and the kitchen are well beyond what you would normally expect from a rental property. The rooftop sitting area gives a wonderful view of the town, especially at night. The lanai off the living/dining rooms is a wonderful place to spend coffee time in the morning, watching the iguanas in the trees and all the colourful birds. We loved the area as well. All the walking did us both alot of good and kept us in shape in spite of all the delicious meals we ate. 10 minutes walking from the Malecon and 5 minutes from Old Town and El Centro. Thank you so much, Jane! We'll be back!
Wow! If you are seeking much more than a hotel, this is it! Tile work, wrought iron...all the Spanish flairs that make this home special. It's situated overlooking the river running through town, and only a very short walk to get to Downtown, Old Town, and the Romantic area. Just walk down the cobble street 5-10 min, and you are in the hub of the finest restaurants and wonderful food carts.
The house itself is #10 spectacular, and a quiet oasis so very close to downtown. The décor and artwork is an added plus. Many things to look at....books to enjoy, etc... The kitchen is spacious w/ wine cooler, formal dining area, and living room w/ two sets of French doors leading to patio overlooking the river. Grab your margarita and put your feet up! The master bedroom... my favorite. Spacious, w/ sitting area, and French doors that open for a wonderful breeze while sleeping. You will be lulled to sleep by the sound of the river, and the comfort of the tempur-pedic mattress:) Make sure you take advantage of the pool and roof top terrace. Great views and perfect place to entertain!
In summary, I can't think of a better place to stay. The house is beautiful, and you can't get any closer to the best parts of Puerta Vallarta. It's also perfect for families given the space, and even has a separate studio you can rent. My family and friends have been alerted, so book before they do!
We have stayed at this house on numerous occasions. We usually rent the main house which is perfect for two couples, but if you have more people it is also nice to rent the downstairs studio. We also really appreciate that we can stay with our dog, and there is always parking inside the gate or next to the house on the street. The house is located in the historic center within walking distance to everything, but also on a quiet street so you can avoid the hustle and bustle if you prefer. There are balconies on every level that face the river and have great views of the mountains and town. My partner is an avid birder, so he loves to sit and watch all the birds that fly up and down the river and perch on the nearby tropical trees. I enjoy scouting iguanas on the tree limbs from the roof terrace while sipping coffee in the mornings or margaritas during sunset! It is easy to just stay in the house because you can enjoy the town views and sounds without leaving this peaceful space. There is also a small private pool, wifi, cable tv, and a gourmet kitchen (even a wine chiller). However, it is also a great place to explore the historic core, the public market, shops, restaurants, cafes, and malecon (boardwalk) which are all within a 15 minute walk. If you want to feel like a local and have all the charms of old Vallarta within reach, and stay in an elegant and comfortable house, then this is the place for you! (Just don't try to book when we're there ;-)
We rented this house, including the studio, for our family of five plus my husband's parents. We were attending a family wedding. We were so glad we opted for renting this house in Viejo Vallerta instead of staying in the hotel zone. The house was a great find for us as it offered us a respite from the hustle and bustle of PV, and it was really a great place to be.
Most memorable were cooking great meals and eating them on the spectacular rooftop, watching birds and swimmers along the river from our balcony, playing games at the dining room table, listening to piano songs from our various musicians in the family, and enjoying the art and books in the house. We befriended some musician neighbors and enjoyed an impromptu music and dance party on our street. We loved walking downtown, or to the neighborhood stores for soda and beer, and also could not stop going to our favorite restaurant up the hill, La Esquina de los Caprichos. This house was an excellent home base for us and we highly recommend it to folks who want a little more Mexico in a Mexican vacation.
