Maine as it Should Be (as it used to be : )

The weather? It changes. What doesn't change is the comfort, the feel and the view from this quant cottage. We have stayed here for 1 week for 5 years, missed last year so making up for it with 2 weeks this year. At low tide, we climb down the 'stairs' and look for beach glass, at high tide, we go swimming and all tides we sit on the lawn and just watch, the lobster boats, sailboats, waves and the days go by with a reward of a fantastic sunset. My wife and I love the bed in the 1st floor alcove, raised and surrounded by windows, you get all the stars in the sky and night and the gentle chug chug of the lobsters boats in the morning. If you don't like to relax, don't like great views or the charm of a beautiful cottage, then maybe stay somewhere else : ) Some gems to check out, breakfast sandwich at BIGS (you can walk there) broiled scallops at Morses (or dinner/lunch on their wharf : ), breakfast at the Driftwood and lobsters at Erica's. (go between lunch and dinner and you might get a table) Seabreeze - "The way life should be"

Home away from home

My husband and I and my family have been going to this cottage for the past 4 years...I just love this place...We have not had one problem and the place is always clean and the views are spectacular! With views like this, you don't need a TV just a good book and some good wine...lol. I always feel at home here and this year, 2014, we will be staying here 2 times, that's how much we love it here. The folks around are friendly and the fresh seafood is delicious! I hope that if you are reading this, please know you will not be disappointed with this place, I am a cleanaholic and I have never had any problems. I was hesitant about writing a review because I want to keep this place a secret but It just to beautiful to keep a secret. Anyone who is considering visiting Bailey Island please do so and stay at this beautiful home you will feel like you are in another world. It is just beautiful and relaxing, you will come home feeling like a new person and you will look forward to your next visit to the island. Thanks Murray and Karen for sharing your home with us...one day I will win the lotto and I am going to make you an offer you cannot refuse... :) Carmen and Chris

it doesn't get any better than this

we had the time of our lives at this lovely cottage and can't wait to get back.... inside was tidy and decorated in perfect rustic island style...the view was unbelievable - kayakers, lobstermen tending to their traps, heron and gulls, and the sleeping nook off the kitchen was a favorite spot to watch the stars and the ocean without ever lifting your head from the pillow....we had lobsters, fished, and took two cruises - one on the "island romance" ferry that docks right down the road at cook's and leaves every day at noon for a narrated tour of the bay; and the other to the admiral peary museum on eagle island (from the dolphin marina in harpswell) for hiking and a picnic...we found sea glass, enjoyed visiting land's end gift shop, the giant stairs, and walked from one end of the island to the other... the salty air made us feel so healthy - and hungry! we also brought our bikes and found a nice path along the river at cook's corner (the island itself can be a bit challenging for biking), about a 15-minute drive from the island... oh and did i mention the peaceful reading spot in the backyard adirondack chairs? truly a little piece of paradise and i recommend this adorable cottage wholeheartedly.

Loved Seabreeze

I recently returned from a week at the Seabreeze cottage with my 8mo daughter, 75 yr old mother and brother. We all had a great time. The weather was perfect allowing us to only use the propane stove in the early mornings to warm the place back up from the chilly nights. The sunsets over the harbor were terrific. While it wasn't the most child-proof location, my daughter loved crawling around both inside and outside, so as long as she had plenty of adult supervision, she was safe & had a blast! My mom loved the sleeping nook on the first floor. You'll definitely want to stock up on groceries as there aren't many restaurants nearby (other than Cooks, which is pricey.) We bought lobsters off the dock at Mackerel Cove for only $2.50/lb. We used the clam/lobster pot at the cottage and steamed the lobster (& some fresh corn we'd gotten at a local farm stand) and had a great, traditional Maine dinner. The kitchen has plenty of dishes, pots & utensils. The upstairs bedrooms are very roomy & comfortable. I loved the view from the bedrooms and had plenty of room to set up a travel crib for my daughter.

We purchased Sea Breeze after renting it for 3 years from the previous owners (Murray and Karen Washburn) who designed and built the cottage in 2002. We have been going to Bailey Island every summer since 2005 and love the area. We camp on nearby Hermit Island and have relatives who own the cottage two doors down the road. We live about two and a half hours away and spend part of every summer at the cottage. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
