Cape Rosier is a magical place. Under every rock, around every corner, under the sea wonders are to be found. Enjoy the magic of a rocky beach, the sweet blueberries in the field across the way and the sandy beach just a short walk down the road. Whether in the sun or the swirls of fog, Cape Rosier is a magical place.
The chalet is a peaceful retreat to enjoy time away from the bustle of everyday life.
The Cape is located in a beautiful area surrounded by great biking, boating, nature walks and beach exploring. Just down the road you can explore the Holbrook Island Sanctuary where you can take easy hike to see wonderful birds and beautiful lilies in the pond. Visit the 4 seasons organic farm market and the Nearings good life Center. Or just sit by the shore (or inside the cottage) and watch the boats go by- the 4 masted schooners, lobster boats and more. Watch the seals, loons, cormorants and dolphins swim past. This is the cottage that has it all for a great get away.
Most of our guests are repeat customers. Book early to avoid disappointment.
Great Grandma Dot purchased the one-room log cabin on the three acre lot in 1951. It remains the oldest, original cabin on the Cape. Grandpa Jerry built the chalet in 1985.
Rosemary Nickerson purchased this chalet in 1951
A sereen setting, immediately accessible to the ocean.
It's like going back in time visiting Cape Rosier. We leave the hectic city behind and totally relax. The salty, sea air, the peace and quiet, the bald eagles, passing lobster boats, schooners, tall ships, islands off-shore.....so much to see and experience.
Dear Rosemary and Buz,
We had a wonderful week in the Chalet--it's such a comfortable house with such a beautiful location! You both made us feel very welcome.

Spent an amazing week in the Chalet at the beginning of September - it was the perfect place to unwind from the hustle and bustle of city life. There is a beautiful view of the water from the house and deck, and it is a quick walk down the path to a private beach. If you are in to kayaking would definitely recommend renting from the Activity Shop in Blue Hill - the morning paddles were one of my favorite parts of the vacation and on the last day we say a bald eagle diving for fish, harbor porpoises and a seal!
The Chalet itself is very clean, comfortable and well appointed - we cooked numerous meals in the kitchen and never felt like we were missing something we needed.
This absolutely lovely Chalet with its beautiful location on the magnificent Penobscot Bay is perfect in every way. Similar to a previous reviewer, my husband and I returned this summer for our sixth year, and we look forward to our stay all winter long. The kayaking from the beach in front of the Chalet is absolutely phenomenal! Waking up every morning to the views of the ocean and sky from the Chalet's wall of windows is summer vacationing at its best. At night, turn out the lights and watch the moon over the ocean, and if you're very lucky, you'll catch a thunderstorm, with its panoramic bolts of lightening providing a spectacular show you'll not soon forget. The cottage is beautifully furnished and maintained, with every comfort you could desire. The owners are gracious hosts, and we are very grateful that they share this remarkably special place with others! Only 15 minutes away is the tiny village of Buck's Harbor, with a delightful old fashioned little market where every morning, they bake the very best Rosemary or Olive Focaccia and superb muffins, and have a wonderful deli with home made yummies. There is an incredible restaurant, Buck's, behind the market. Mt. Desert Island with Acadia National Park is only a little more than an hour away, as is the village of Stonington on beautiful Deer Island, with its art galleries. restaurants, lobster coop, and fascinating history. And Blue Hill and Castine are only 1/2 hour away, with wonderful restaurants and other delights. We concur with another reviewer in stating that this is also our "most favorite place to vacation in Maine".
My husband and I brought our three children to the Chalet on Cape Rosier for a week long get away and we were not disappointed. The weather was amazing and the property was perfect. We had never been to Maine and found this place to be exactly what we had pictured- just like the owner's describe it truly is magical. The kids loved finding unique rocks and sea glass on the beach. We made several day trips: Penobscot Bay Bridge and Fort Knox, the Village of Castine and of course Acadia National Park. We loved being able to come back to the quiet chalet on Cape Rosier. The swimming was fun and the kayaking was excellent (first time ocean kayaking for us)! We rented kayaks from the local company in Blue Hill called the Activity Shop which we highly recommend (they deliver). We saw amazing wildlife including bald eagles and porpoises. The chalet was immaculately clean when we arrived and had everything we needed for a week's stay. Thank you Rosemary and Lewis for the wonderful place- Maine is truly magical!
The Chalet is our favorite place to vacation in Maine. Walk 40 feet to sit on the beach and take in some of the most beautiful scenery of Maine and enjoy the dolphins breaking water or the Schooners as they sail by. Take hikes, explore, Kayak, or swim in the crystal clear pristine water of the Penobscot Bay! Situated 25 min from Blue Hill Maine where you can dine out in some great restaurants, shop, and enjoy life.
This is our sixth year to stay here, and we have never been disappointed. Buzz and Rosemary (the owners) are some of the nicest people and are close by to assist you if need be.
If you are looking for a great place to vacation, look no further, this place is incredible!
This is a special place, well removed from major population centers but close to amazing coastal beaches, hiking trails and small-town gems like Buck's Harbor that look straight out of a children's storybook. The house is very modern, clean and chock-full of small amenities that reflect the generous spirit of its owners and coastal Maine nautical culture. Our kids loved hunting for sand dollars on the beach a few steps away. The kitchen is tiny but has everything you'll need to make great meals. Rosemary is very accessible and full of recommendations to make your stay in the area pleasant.

Nice location if you want to avoid tourist area. We enjoyed every moment at this place. The house was really clean and well equiped. The owners , who are located in a house next door, are wonderful and generous people who respect your intimacy.
Tinder Hearth Bakery sells DELISH pizza, only 10 minutes away. Farmer Markets abound in our area, fresh eggs, veggies, crafts. Wooden Boat School and workshops in Brooklyn. Nearby towns of Blue Hill, Sedgwick, Stonington host art galleries, restaurants, lobster pounds. Don't miss a visit to Acadia National Park, worth the 40 minute drive!!
