Enjoyed our cozy stay. The best part was the hot tub after a long day of jeeping. The grounds are beautiful and well taken care of. We enjoyed a long walk every morning with the awesome views and a few deer grazing in the fields.

Peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the little river guest house. It is very well situated; close enough to a small town and main roads, yet isolated enough to feel like you're away from it all. The cabin itself is surrounded by little trees and bushes to give you privacy from the main house and there is plenty of space outside to explore, play and relax. Surrounding the property are fields with cows. The owners are very friendly and approachable, they gave us some local hiking tips which helped us decide on where to go check out.

The cabin itself is just perfect. We stayed there with just our dog so had plenty of space. The loft area would be great for kids, however the beds up there are small; I'm 5ft 3 in tall and my feet stuck off the end when I tried them out. That being said the main bed is lovely and big and extremely comfortable. I had some of the best nights sleep that week. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking with pots, pans, plates, cutlery etc. and windows that look out to the mountains. The hot tub is a fantastic addition which we really appreciated after a long day of hiking. It is kept very clean and well maintained. We didn't try out the zip line as it was a bit too chilly, however we did sit out on the little beach beside the pond which our dog liked to swim in. There is also a teepee, fire pit and grill out there for guest use which is a nice touch. There are books, board games and a selection of DVDs also provided to enjoy.

We didn't have many issues during our stay. We did notice that certain areas could do with better cleaning, such as the floor underneath the side tables and chairs. The wifi range isn't the best and I could only connect it to my iPad when I sat outside on the back porch. However since we spent most of our time out this wasn't such a big deal. And finally if you want to use any food left behind by previous guests be sure to check the dates! We found mayo 6mo expired and a tin of soup 1yr expired.

Overall the area is amazing, there is so much to see and do. I highly recommend the West Elk Loop if you want to see some breathtaking scenery (full day of driving, some roads closed in winter). Loved that it was dog friendly and would be perfect for a family of 4. Would definiately stay here again or recommend.

Perfect relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

This guest house is amazing. My husband and I have stayed on many properties over the years and this one is in our top 3.

The guest house:

Spacious and comfortable. The kitchen had everything you needed to cook a nice dinner. Living room was also nice. We especially liked the separate eating area with a door leading out to a side patio. Windows throughout the house opened and provided a nice breeze keeping it cool even in summer temps. The high ceiling fan worked exceptionally well. There was also a loft with twin beds but we didn't use it. The bedroom was cozy and the bed was fairly comfortable.

The grounds:

The property is amazing with lovely mountain views. Our first night we enjoyed a wonderful sunset and captured some of our best photos. The grass is lucious and green. The flowers around the guest house and owners house are wonderful and well kept.

Hot tub:

What a nice touch. We only enjoyed the hot tub one of our nights there but it was amazing. It gets very dark but the hot tub does have a light if you choose you need it. One thing I will say is that it was hard to turn off. We finally figured it out though. There is also a creek you can walk to that has a nice bubbling flow and seems to be a good place to relax.

The owners:

Very nice couple. Upon arrival expressed to us to just ask if we needed anything. My husband and I like privacy and we didn't even notice they were there.

Overall I would recommend this house to anyone of any age. It was simply pleasant and exactly what we were looking for.

So relaxing

  • 5 of 5

It's just as it appears in the pictures. The views, the pond, the little river, the home. Family of 4 with two teens, a puppy and one last getaway before school started. It was perfect for us. Hiked the S in Salida. Hiked the Continental Divide from Monarch Crest. Relaxed at the homestead in the hot tub. Grilled out and enjoyed the views. Spent most of one day on the zip line over the pond and enjoyed our time together. We'll be back!
