Overview

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 12)

Sitting on the River’s Edge this luxurious private home features a master suite with private patio, natural rock wall in bedroom and in-room double spa. It also has a second master suite with in-room bathroom featuring a double spa. Additional features include a living room, sitting room and second patio with outdoor BBQ providing room to stretch out. The full kitchen and dining room provide ample space for an extended stay. Two king suites with in-room spa, a double queen room and a children’s attic room with four single beds, all with cable TVs, complete this special retreat. River’s Edge is a sumptuous getaway for special family occasions.

This beautiful unit is also in an historic location. In 1849, on this site, James Savage built a store made of logs. It supported gold miners who explored the Merced River. For his protection from and to gain influence with local tribes, Savage married several Indian women. After Savage died, one of his Indian widows guided John Hite, a poor prospector, up the South Fork of the Merced to find gold that made Hite a millionaire.

Come see what awaits you at the River's Edge!

Spacious and close to park. Good for a group.

Pretty clean and well stocked. Great place to spread out for a large group. I would recommend it and come back. Just a few issues: ants in the kitchen, the twin beds did not have a top sheet. Housekeeping fixed that after the first night, but how that even happened is puzzling. How do you miss putting two sheets on the bed? It was nice to have fresh towels every day. There are actually 3 bathrooms and it was very convenient for a large group. There is no cell service in El Portal so make sure everyone in your group has a map and directions to find the place. Even though it's on the main road, it's tucked away and can be hard to find if you don't know where you are going.

the corner unit in the vacation community. access to the swimmable river with the backyard overlooking the river (the current though is quite strong). few miles to Yosemite entrance. ideal place to chill after a day of strenuous hikes.

Great location

Back patio backup to a cool River. House is very comfortable. Very large and clean. Furnishings are somewhat older but very nice and great place to relax.

Well appointed, spacious house very close to Arch Rock entrance to Yosemite

  • 5 of 5

The house itself is spacious, well maintained, clean and comfortable. Perfect for our group of 12. The beds and pillows are perfect after a long day hiking and climbing waterfalls in the Yosemite valley. When water is flowing (and it was), moonlight reflecting off the river water looks magical. Not having cellular access or wifi means that you are forced to disconnect from your "always connected, always on" world. You have to get groceries from the store in El Portal or the lobby stores in Yosemite View Lodge or Cedar Lodge. We loved it. The kids loved it. The seniors loved it.

Lovely stay

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed in a number of VRBO large-size homes, and this one is not standard. The description was quite accurate (water in this fork of the Merced River had spring run-off) and the house is lovely, but it is really run by a nearby hotel and therefore is missing some things you've come to expect from VRBO homes, such as a printed information sheet (e.g., when is garbage collected, where by buy groceries), condiments left by previous renters (not even salt and pepper), but also no damage deposit or cleaning fee, no request to strip beds and start the laundry! Service is provided daily by the hotel people -- we didn't ask for room services though they were offered, but they did provide more soap, towels, etc. Entry is handicap-accessible and master suite is on main floor. There is no washer or dryer, no Internet, no cell phone, limited menu of cable TV stations. It's nearly as close as you can get while staying outside the park. Rates quite reasonable for value and space. We were quite satisfied.
