It also has a second master suite with in-room bathroom featuring a double spa. Additional features include a living room, sitting room and second patio with outdoor BBQ providing room to stretch out. The full kitchen and dining room provide ample space for an extended stay. This beautiful unit is also in an historic location. In 1849, on this site, James Savage built a store made of logs. It supported gold miners who explored the Merced River. For his protection from and to gain influence with local tribes, Savage married several Indian women. After Savage died, one of his Indian widows guided John Hite, a poor prospector, up the South Fork of the Merced to find gold that made Hite a millionaire.

Comfy, quiet, and clean
Great relaxing place to stay. Clean and close to the park.
We totally loved it! Had a wonderful stay , beautiful river edge house.. Thanks
Great for large groups!
Took 6 teen girls over winter break and it was perfect size for our group...but bring a DVD player if you want to watch movies. Also think of it more like staying in a hotel with kitchen rather than someone’s house, zero spices, not even salt and pepper. Three stories so lots of room to spread out. Zero cell service, no WiFi, limited channels...be prepared to be unplugged. Nice location close to park entrance, market and right on the river.
Great Location and property
Wonderful place, the only shortcoming was that the heaters were not reliably working; a bit of an issue in mid winter.
Good value, Great location!
Good property overall. Perfect for large families. Housekeeping could be a pinch better though (an easy fix, I am sure). Will definitely come back!
Spacious and close to park. Good for a group.
Pretty clean and well stocked. Great place to spread out for a large group. I would recommend it and come back. Just a few issues: ants in the kitchen, the twin beds did not have a top sheet. Housekeeping fixed that after the first night, but how that even happened is puzzling. How do you miss putting two sheets on the bed? It was nice to have fresh towels every day. There are actually 3 bathrooms and it was very convenient for a large group. There is no cell service in El Portal so make sure everyone in your group has a map and directions to find the place. Even though it's on the main road, it's tucked away and can be hard to find if you don't know where you are going.
