This is a beautiful modern home with three sliding glass doors on the main floor so you feel as if you are outdoors. There is an open kitchen, dining and living area with cathedral ceilings, a master bedroom (Queen bed) suite/2 room bath and washer/dryer all on the first floor.
There is a gas stove on a brick hearth, tile floors and carpeting. Up the spiral staircase, there is a large bedroom (Queen bed) with four skylights, so you can see the stars and moon; and another bedroom with a cathedral ceiling and twin beds. There is also a full bath on the second floor. The house is beautifully decorated with American and English antiques.
This is a perfect summer house, located nine miles east of Great Barrington. The house is a mile from the most pristine lake in the Berkshires, Lake Garfield, which has a sand beach and lifeguard in July and August. This home is 15 minutes to Lenox (Tanglewood, Berkshire Theatre Festival, Jacob's Pillow) and many other cultural and children's activities. There is peace, quiet and beauty in this four acre property. There is satellite for TV and high speed internet connections.
We are devoted Berkshire Hills lovers, and have been coming to this area for over 30 years. The landscape, the cultural activities and the tranquility are a great pull for us to relax and enjoy socializing.
maria reveley purchased this house in 1987
Monterey is a special hamlet, very rural and bucolic. Two lakes are pristine and beckoning in the summer. Proximity to the many cultural activities in the area make the location ideal. Close to Tanglewood, Kripalu, Cranwell, Berkshire Theatre Group, Jacob's Pillow, the Mahawie and others.
Butternut, a beautifully groomed ski mountain, is only six miles away for family fun in the winter. Fall is amazing with the foliage. The house, on four acres, is a beautiful contemporary home that brings the outdoors in and makes relaxing easy!
The wooded lot, the skylights, the antique furnishings, the ease of living make this house perfect for a vacation.
High speed internet enables you to stay in touch if need be. The spiral staircase, the propane stove all add charm.
And the quiet cannot be beat!i
The lake is one mile away and is tranquil. The general store is even closer and offers a big deck over the Konkapot River for morning coffee. The experience of living in a rural hamlet of less than 1,000 calms the soul and brings quiet and beauty.
We had a great week at Maria's. The house was in a very secluded location but within minutes of all the conveniences of Great Barrington. It was very spacious and clean and completely quiet. Maria met me at the house and showed me around. She left some fruit and wine, too. I didn't cook any meals there but I could have because the kitchen was fully equipped. The living room area is open and very comfortable. I'd definitely go back.
This is a beautiful, well appointed home privately situated on three acres. The owner, Maria Reveley, was extremely helpful and supportive. She met us at the home for our arrival, gave us a lovely bottle of wine, and pointed us to a couple places to visit locally that were real winners. We ate on the patio just outside the kitchen for many meals. The home literally sits on the border of the Beartown Mountain Preserve, and as hikers, we were able to access nearby trailheads in the preserve with ease. Although the home is in the little town of Monterey, with its quaint General Store, we were able to make easy day trips to Tanglewood, the Inn on the Green in Marlborough, the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge, the Clark Institute Museum in Williamstown, Kripalu in Lenox, and the restaurants and shops of Great Barrington. Given the price we paid for our week, and the wonderful features of the house, with four big skylights in the upstairs Queen Bedroom we used, we felt we got super value for money! We are already talking about renting the home again.
This house is located in the hills of Monterey, surrounded by gorgeous woods. It is warm and comfortable and smartly and imaginatively decorated, especially with the owner's art work. All the great Berkshire attractions and activities are within easy reach and the drives are beautiful.
My husband and I have now rented this home during the ski season for 3 years. Before that, my in-laws rented here for 20+ years in the winter. Its convenience to several ski mountains, fully equipped kitchen, high speed internet, and cable TV make it an incredible place to visit every weekend over the winter. The owners are wonderful, loving and helpful whenever needed. They keep the house in excellent shape, and on the very rare occassion that we do encounter a problem, they are accommodating and very quick to respond. I highly recommend this house for any time of year, and can't wait to return for next ski season!
Tucked away on a woodsy road bordering Beartown State Forest, this house provides a great base to enjoy and explore all that the Berkshires have to offer. For us that included visits to Tanglewood, Shakespeare and Company, Jacob's Pillow, and The Mount (Edith Wharton's estate) as well as leisurely afternoons walking around Great Barrington and Lenox. The house's three bedrooms have comfortable beds, lovely views, and ample closet space. When we invited friends for a few nights, the layout worked well, as there is a full bathroom on each floor and good visual privacy. Furnishings are tasteful and unfussy. The cushy sofa in the living room was big enough for all of us to converse easily while gazing into the woods through the floor-to-ceiling sliders, which are nice on rainy days, too. We felt close to nature here; one morning a mama bear lumbered by a slider not far from the table where we sat sipping coffee. The owners stocked the house with all the equipment and supplies we needed to prepare good meals and live in comfort. Everything was clean and in good working order. Fans in each room made the inside air tolerable even on hot, sticky days, and it always cooled off enough at night for comfortable sleeping. In addition to leaving us stacks of brochures about local attractions, the owners went out of their way to help us navigate the area and enjoy less touristy activities, including trips to nearby dog-friendly parks and trails as well as the lovely lakeside beach (no dogs allowed) a short drive away. Don't miss the goat farm on the road to New Marlborough! For us city slickers, it took awhile to get used to planning ahead for grocery shopping; it's a ten-mile drive to the nearest supermarket. However, there is a cute General Store close by in Monterey where you can pick up a few basics as well as gourmet specialties -- or sit outside by the stream and enjoy a sandwich.
We enjoyed our 3 week stay in this woodsy area of Massachusetts in the summer of 2012. The owners were welcoming, responsive and always helpful. The house is comfortable and well-equipped. It is located close to Gt. Barrington and a reasonable driving distance from other favorite cultural destinations in the area. Wi-fi had recently been installed and worked perfectly. We recommend seeing the Bidwell House Museum nearby and our grandsons enjoyed a trip to the goat farm and the lake. A great place to stay!
Monterey is a bucolic hamlet of 1000 residents. It is heavily wooded, has two lakes and many trails. Close to many of the most popular cultural activities of the Berkshires, but quiet and very serenely beautiful. In addition to a goat farm, the town has a library, church, a General Store,
and parks, as well as a restored home from the 1700s, Bidwell House. Lenox, home of Tanglewood, and Stockbridge are 15 minutes away. Butternut for skiing is six miles away. Monterey is home to many community activities, including Lake Fest and the annual Steak Roast. It is also the home of Gould Farm, a therapeutic community that is over 100 years old, with a wonderful Roadside Store (breakfast/lunch) and a bakery.
